Which pirate captain are you referring to? Don't recall any unresolved characters.
The pirate captain they were chasing all season? Whose ship they stole. Who we see in one transmission with the image scrambled so we couldn't see his face which seemed a deliberate story choice.

Tak Rennod? (Donner spelled backwards - Richard Donner directed Goonies)
I thought he was just a plot device, not a character that needed further exploration.
Maybe season 2 will go into it more. Didn't seem odd to me that he wasn't expanded on.

Wasn't he killed? I thought that was the body with the knife in it? There was a mutiny on board.

Guess if he wasn't going to be anyone it didn't really make sense to obscure his appearance in the recording they found. That felt deliberate.

I took the captain as nothing more than a plot device, nobody in the show actually cared, so neither should we.

Jod regularly talked about him and they spent half the show trying to figure out how he found At-Achrin. I'm just confused that they obscured his appearance for seemingly no reason.

They talked about him and what he did but nobody seemed to have any interest in actually finding him himself.

Maybe something as simple as they don't actually know what they wanted him to look like, maybe saved some dollars on actor likeness, what it was it never struck me as important.

I really doubt that's it.

I suspect the actual reason is they didn't see it as necessary to the plot but didn't want to commit themselves to anything in case they wanted to use him for a plot for S2 with Jod.

Maybe it was something they considered exploring, but abandoned. Like the Jedi who trained Jod. Although I believe her scenes were actually shot, just not used.

I thought Tak Rennod was a legend from the past that propelled the story forward, like One-Eyed Willy in the Goonies. It was his 'treasure map' but he's long dead so there's no other connection to be had.

Anyway, really good series, both my kids loved it (including the girl, who isn't really into Star Wars). I know they are saying there is unlikely to be a season two because of 'low ratings' but I hope Disney give this more time to breathe than they did The Acolyte, see if people pick it up now the whole season is available and good reviews are flowing in. Perhaps they should continue to promote it for a while before making any decisions. Though the biggest issue still remains cost, this allegedly cost about $17m per episode. Could they do it cheaper without making it look too inferior to the first season?

There's not much reason it should get more expensive, apart from actors wages who might have more bargaining power after a well received series.

Yeah again, no issue with Rennod not being anyone major other than they seemed to build him up in that way. Didn't diminish from the show overall.

Apparently seasons 2 and 3 of Mando got more minutes watched than Skeleton Crew during the same period as Skeleton Crew aired. The actors have no bargaining power as there is zero demand for a second season. At the very least they lost half the audience in the six months after the Acolyte aired. The franchise is at the point of complete apathy, only watched by a skeleton crew of rusted on ageing OT fans. It shouldn't get more expensive because no sane company would bother making it at all. Maybe it will continue in the form of a comic or a book that no one buys anymore.

I assume you’re basing it off this recent report, an estimate of minutes watched by Luminate, since Disney doesn’t release exact figures. If so, it’s incorrect, Skeleton Crew was above Mando 2 and 3, and interestingly, The Acolyte was the second most watched original Disney show.

Minutes watched is a dodgey metric considering the length difference in shows

Anyway Skeleton Crew is like Solo, both have suffered from the dissatisfaction, public fallout, and fan blaming of the previous release

Mando 2 and 3 combined.
But anyway, hadn't seen that. That's dismal. Be interesting to revisit next year.

Sometimes you need to endure some short term pain for long term gain. Just like Andor is getting another season despite costing the GDP of a medium sized country because it’s prestige television that attracts critical acclaim and award nominations, Skeleton Crew could be a classic kids adventure that lives on for years after if they continue to promote it. Having these wins permanently on the streamer could prove valuable in the long term. But there is no question they need to bring the costs down, hundreds of millions per season will almost never be financially viable.

It's telling that acolyte is still getting eyes in good numbers. Streamers are way too hasty to cancel things.

It’s used as an alternative to water boarding for prisoners .. no one could seriously be rewatching it
