Another exciting ride up the rollercoaster.
Wheeeee!
Finish third bottom but I could see us doing anything.
Remember all the injuries we had this year, unprecedented by the club.
Hopefully blokes like Lefau and big Sexy are back.
I still reckon Hopper can provide something.
Needs a break from injuries.
Maurice jr to improve again, was looking great until he got injured.
And I reckon Lalor may debut.
Media already carrying on like pork chops about him not getting the number 4.
It will come in time.
Dusty had to earn that number as well.
Whatever a third bottom position represents in wins and losses but I reckon we will improve more than that.
Already guaranteed a first rounder from North to add to our playing stocks for next year.

Definately bottom 2. when injuries hit mature players it will get bad i think. if we get early injuries we may be lucky to get 3 or 4 wins.

A lobsided list. not enough proven mids still very light on for them still.
The least amount of games played out of the 18 clubs and second youngest list all says very early rebuild and a fair bit of pain until we can get enough games into the kids which may take three years.

It may get worse next year with the loss of Lynch and Prestia meaning we may want to trade for a mature kpf at the end of the season because we know the tall kids will take time.
Prestia going will leave a huge hole in the mids. Not just experience but the numbers go backwards again.
It sort of shows how it can be two steps forward and one step back at times.

We drafted just three mids and lost Martin, Graham, Baker, Bolton and our premier running back in Rioli.
We went backward numbers wise regardless of our recruits.

We were the worst scoring team in the comp and are a fair way behind other teams for actual goal kickers on the list. If Lynch can't get back that will be worse. Talls of any description take time and thats what we mostly drafted.

If anything an already slow team got slower and to top it all off Lalor and Hotton will not play early the club has already said they will be eased into it so there is little midfield relief coming early in the season.

Then we have our knee blokes who will also be eased into it so no Gibcus and Lefau early.

Imo we just need to grin and bear the losses that are coming and show some patience, this rebuild is going to take more than one year.

I would take picks 1 and 4 ours and norths and take best available with them and then i would be looking to get a few mature types in the door a bit like the caldwell selection Essendon did. young enough from a quality background or draft position but mature enough to help now.
Pace pace and more pace is needed with genuine quality footskills and no squibs please.

Imo the running roles are still of concern and we are screaming out for a couple of genuine GOALKICKING
general forwards.

We have our tall defenders covered in fact they look good as a collective. Quality in Balta Gibcus and hopefully now Trainor. Im inclined to want us to develop Bauer here as well. Then Miller Blight and Young adding adequate cover and ready to go backup. Over the next few season at least two should be delisted or traded out to help get back some decent list balance.

We now have the opportunity to DEVELOP young tall forwards in Armstrong Faull Fawcett Gray not all will make it. with three mature talls there to help them for a few years in Lynch Lefau and Kossie. Lynch will retire and Kossie will probably be delisted as the kids grow. Again this is helping out with list balance.

The hope is once we have a fully fit list then the likes of Hotton Lalor Smillie and maybe one or two of the young talls can play well enough to warrant their spots.

Then we want the real improvement to come from kids already there the ones who have shown the most promise.

Campbell, Smith McAuliffe Gibcus Clarke even Sonsie. If this group along with the newbies can improve, then maybe 2026 will be a season of improved hope.

To glibly write of players like Rioli with his pace run and rebound and Bolton with another 34 goal season with his pace and his midfield work when in there as no losses is madness.
Baker who was a very experienced and servicable player had a reasonable year . Dusty well not his usual standards but most likely we got more out of him this year than what we will get out of many of the newbies. Grahams experience and battle hardened body won't be auatomatically replaced. Given the age and experience of the list they are all losses in their own way and hurt depth in particular.

We know it will take a few more drafts and some astute trading set a time for finals and work to it. patience is the key.

Bolton and Baker admitted they weren't all in last season, then there was just the amount of injuries, which also has a big impact on training and practicing structures. For me Lynch and Prestia are pretty much a write off, any games from Lynch are a bonus. We've seen enough that you cant have Prestia, Hopper and Taranto in the same midfield anyway, even if Dion is fit. We were outclassed with that midfield against a 3 win North, so who is it going to beat?

Last year was a debacle, players not all in, Dusty picking and choosing when to train and play, along with the injuries, we were just killing time until the draft. Surely everyone is all in now.

I expect us to improve sharply, even with a worse list on paper. The lopsided list will hurt, means our small forwards will have to fire for us to win, as we just don't have the speed otherwise. I would hope for 5-6 wins, probably that still finishes last, but it doesn't matter.

I think 4+ wins is okay. Hopefully not too many floggings. Very bad loses are what we need to avoid. Games into young players is the priority.

Sides have off days and I can see us winning 2-3.

If I had to guess we'll likely knock off 2/3 of North/Adelaide/Essendon/St Kilda.

Would love a stirring win by the kids against a Collingwood or Carlton also but can't really see it with where we're at. Might be able to take Melbourne if the chips are down and they've dropped their heads which I fully expect if they don't start the season well.

Can absolutely expect to be belted by lots in our trip down the freeway to the taxpayer funded Corio Meth Rehab Stadium.

Also expecting big beltings against Port and the Dogs given they are massive flat track bullies.

Any improvement from that 2021 draft/younger players in 20-23 range is going to be offset by losing experience in the team like Bolton, Dusty, Rioli, Baker.

Net result probably the same as this last season. 2 wins. 3-4 at very most.

Last or second last on the ladder dependent on West Coast and North.

How shit do you have to be for priority picks? Chances are 2025 and 26 will be equally bleak. We’ll get younger and even more inexperienced before we turn the corner.
Depends if 2023 counts as a dud year for us or not. Those pesky flags might count against us too ☹️

I can see us getting 4-6 wins. Ideally we're still playing to win games, but with the focus on the development of the younger players, which will mean that we probably don't win as many as we could with the focus solely on winning games. Could very well be a race to the bottom between us and WCE.
