You do everything you can to win, including making all required moves to optimise your chances... otherwise you are making a conscious decission...

Perhaps there are different degrees of tanking but IMO if any coach deliberately fails to optimise the teams chances of winning then by some degree it can be classed as 'tanking'.

We were the worst side it in for those 3 years and we deserved those picks.
I wont speak for 2007 but the first 2 years we were just plain terrible.

Plus whoever is close to finishing last with 4 or less come round 16 onwards next year.

If they don't change the rules soon, we'll see a lot more clubs putting the Pool que in the rack early, and coaches conceding games. Should be pretty much all 16 clubs within the next few years.

FWIW, I would have done the same thing if I was in Terry's situation. Id also be resting my senior players and getting all the medical stuff sorted early. Also give the kids a chance to play and see what theyve got.

They call it tanking, I call it prudent future planning.

Anyway, Cotchin wasn't a PP. Losing that game got us a 2nd round priority which we used on Rance. If we didn't get that pick, we'd have drafted Rance and not traded our regular 2nd for McMahon. That loss got us Jordy.

Carltank took it to a whole new level. They reached the threshold by mid-year, made their Judd arrangements and then called it a season with 11 games to go.
