Its terrifying that the LNP think they lost because Morrison was 'too progressive'. For the jokes about them 'staying in the wilderness' because of it - this allows for the embedding of even further far right and religious factions in the party. Sooner or later they will get re-elected.

On the one hand, the fact that unlike the US, we have compulsory voting, preferential voting, and an independent AEC, reassures me these loons will never get within coo-ee of power.

I also think the real-life example of ten years of Coalition stupidity will take years to finally rinse out of everyone's memories.

On the other hand, there's the distressing fact that back in May, quite a few Australians still did consider them the best people to run the country (!)

And, as I've often commented on politics threads on the MB (nice to see you dropping in there Ticky - it sure gets a bit willing at times, but sometimes I actually prefer it to the footy disucssions on offer!) - never underestimate the determination of conservative zealots. It's a lesson progressives need to learn from them. Look at the way, when dealt the massive slap in the face of the SSM Yes vote, they didn't curl up in a ball and sob, they set about straight away foisting their BS religious discrimination legislation on the nation. They NEVER give up, and only a fool underestimates them. (Add in the fact that quite a few of them are religious zealots of a stripe that actually wears ridicule as a badge of honour - god knows what sort of persecutionist is attracted to that sort of religion, but that's probably one for the psychologists).
