The USA far right going bananas over the Last Supper thing - when it is in fact a depiction of Dionysus. Followed by their 'They put Death on a White Horse" - its actually meant to be Joan of Arc just goes to show how completely shot their education system is.

And how flawed their view of the world is. That it can be so fractured as to see everything is this slant.

Aukus in the news gain. MSM in lockstep with the Government. Only critic who gets a mention is Keating who states the obvious when he says we are simply being abjectly and dangerously at America's beck and call.

We used to follow Britain obsequiosly until they deserted us in WW2. Now we follow US in the same way and we'll follow them blindly if they get involved in a skirmish with China. The most dangerous ally on the planet.

We are still an adolescent nation that looks up to US and UK. Marles goes weak at the knees each time he is in Washington. Carries on as if we are the 51st state of the Union. Had our chance to grow up with the Republic referendum but Howard, Abbott etc put a stop to that. Pathetic situation for a federation now over 120 years old.
 
Netanyahu needs to be removed. He just stuffed any chance of a ceasefire. Only interested in his own political survival no matter how many people die. Sane people inside Israel need to act. US now a laughing stock with no sway over him.

What did I miss? I haven’t seen the news all week so am completely out of the loop on what the current state of play is.

Really? It wasn't meant to depict The Last Supper, but the main character Barbara Butch posted on Instagram an image of the Last Supper with the caption "Oh Yes Oh Yes, the gay new testament" It was later deleted. They knew exactly what they were doing.They should just admit it rather than cowering behind their lies.

Why would an opening ceremony for the modern version of an ancient Greek sports festival be representing the last supper and not a feast of a Greek god responsible for parties and frivolity?

What elements of this could you find in The Last Supper which you couldn't find in the Feast of the Gods?

I have just read where the Israeli lobby in US has poured millions into the Democratic Primaries resulting in the removal of two progressive candidates, the latest of whom is Cory Bush. She had the 'audacity' to call for a ceasefire on humanitarian grounds but this was enough for her to be targeted with the lobby spending over 8 million dollars on her opponent's campaign, roughly 8 times more than her.

This grip that the lobby has on both sides US politics is a massive impediment to both a ceasefire right now and to any future justice for the Palestinians. It also amounts to interference by a foreign nation in another country's government and policies. The influence that is exerted is more malicious because when the US public is polled, a resounding majority is in favour of an immediate ceasefire and the cessation of the killing that has resulted in nearly 40,000 Palestinian deaths, including 15,000 children. Despite this, Netanyahu was given 12 standing ovations in Congress.

The Australian version of the lobby is not as blatantly influential but have ended the careers of at least two Labor politicians over the last few years.It intimidates and targets anyone in public life with accusations of anti semitism if they dare criticize Israel's appalling actions. All of the old media, particularly the Murdoch press, turn a blind eye, especially lately. The Australian newspaper backs the Israelis to the hilt. Shameful.

His mum lived till she was 103 I think! Lachlan is his favourite son and a chip off the old block. His other kids are more reasonable. Hopefully they gain control of the empire during an upcoming court battle where Rupert wants to give Lachlan all the future power. News Limited has never been more ugly and biased. Thankfully, mainstream media has way less clout politically than in times past.

Yeah, mainstream media has less clout, but with the newer "independent" and online media getting more eyeballs, the conservative voices are often more well funded and often even worse than NewsCorp.

Though I'm much more aware of US examples.

Fair call. I'm led to believe Tik Tok is heavily used by young people and is showing the carnage in Gaza, for example, when MSM hardly bothers now despite it continuing unabated. Pressure building for Tik Tok to be banned here because it can't be controlled in any way and doesn't follow the Government narrative or be apologists for Israel like Newscorp.

The coverage of Israel/Gaza in conservative online media is interesting. You have some shows and commentators being fairly critical of Israel, in part because it reflects poorly on the current US administration, there's some legitimate war weariness, and the further right members of their audience might have a disposition against Jews. But then you have more traditional neocon, or influenced by evangelical Christian or Jewish identity, commentators who are very pro Israel and have support, but also getting torched by others.

To be fair there is disagreement over Israel's actions among the more popular online media and political streamers, on the liberal/left side of things, though most skew toward sympathy for Palestine, outrage against Israel.

I follow more YouTube discourse, not on TikTok, slightly older demographic.
