We, the PAFC, need the best available. Wether he be here for 1 year or 25 years, we need someone strong, bold and daring, someone to whipe the crap from our club (similar to Blighty at the end of '96). I would prefer 24 months of a winning culture/attitude over 48 months of someone looking for excuses, someone with a five year plan, etc.
Appointing a coach for 24 months is a waste of time and resources.

Maybe Sanderson will stay because the reason he left last time is gone? Don't know, just stirring ... ;)

Front-runner according to who? Has this information come from within the PAFC?

I'll take a wild stab in the dark and suggest it's 'journalistic licence'.

Not sure how there can be a frontrunner when the selection process is barely underway (if at all).

Blights two years at Adelaide was very productive, if Sanderson want's to come in a give us that sort of performance Il'd be happy, then they got Ayres and again had a continueation of success, followed by Craig. I would be happy with Sanderson 2 years then jetting off to Geelong, Matthews for 4 years and finishing with Hird for as long as he wants! :D

Viva la Port!

I wouldn't. It's critically important that the head coach appointment is right and that he ingratiates himself to the Port Adelaide football community quickly and captures the imagination of prospective supporters.

This is the single most important appointment the club will make in determining the on-field direction of this club in the foreseeable future.

Blights two years at Adelaide was very productive .......
Blight was at Adelaide for three years, 1997 - 1999, for two flags and a 13th.

I doubt that an untried coach like Sanderson would have the impact that Blight (5 years at Geelong for 3 GF appearances) had at the Cows. If he can guarantee to get us the flag in both years of a two year contract then I'd be happy to have him as coach. :)

Yeah I was only going with the first two years as when he wanted to clean the closet the board refused him and he walked!

Blight sure has a good record, 8 years, 5 finals, 2 flags...

That is not how I recall it. He cleaned the closet so to speak when he first arrived sacking the likes of McDermott, McGuinness and A. Jarman.

After two big years the going got tougher in 1999 and he lost his taste for it and retired at the end of the season.

He was sacked mid-season from his first VFL/AFL coaching job at North Melbourne.

It wasn't as if Blight walked into the Cows as a rookie senior coach though and I don't know of any rookie coach at VFL/AFL level that has won a flag in their first year in the job.

U forgot his 3/4 of a year at St Kilda stuffing up that record a bit. Plus he was the last captain coach in the VFL in 1981 at North. He lasted either 10 or 16 games.

Blight's 1999 finished up fairly ugly too, with the Matt Connell episode especially not being too pleasant. Rumours certainly flew around that the players were not happy and were talking to management about their concerns.

Rooch is speculating that Sanderson won't be considered due to well and truly burning his bridges on his exit from Port.

Some Essendon bloke is being touted as Mattress' number 1 challenger...

Alan Richardson.
the scary thing about that, was his development of juniors at Essendon was the reason for him being a leading candidate. .... Essendon doesn't strike me as a club that has shown any remarkable junior development over the past couple years.

Alan Richardson

I'm sorry, but he just doesn't do it for me. I cant imagine him being the sort that's going to bring fans in, and not sure that he ticks all the boxes without having seen his work first hand.

Trawled a few threads on the bloke.

Has a good reputation as a development coach. At least the Collingwood board seem to think so :)

This might be interview practice for a job he'd rather have in his home town, say, with the club he's already at.

He turned down an offer from Carlton a few years ago, then jumped to join Knights at Essendon. Knights is supposed to have encouraged him to apply for the Richmond gig last year, while rating his work highly. It's hard to tell what part of Knights is talking at any given moment in time...

One tenuous connection to Port and the selection committee ... Richardson was an AC at the Dogs while Rohde was there.

Let 'em all apply, it wont make any difference.
If Matty doesn't get the job, then I reckon that the board members will have to go into a witness protection type arrangement.
If anything does go horribly wrong and it would have to be devastatingly wrong, then Bradley is the one I am told will get the job.

Dennis Pagan??
