I don’t get the big deal. He didn’t bet on the Pies to lose and then threw the game. If the rumours are true and he was part of a syndicate where someone else placed a bet on a collingwood player and he was unaware and told the relevant people as soon as he was aware, why should he be banned? Who cares.

If the AFL don’t ban him, why should we?

I don't buy this whole 'players aren't educated enough/they don't know about the risks/they're young they'll do stupid things/they have a lot of money and they don't know what to do with it'. If these are excuses we're making for ourselves than that's a pretty poor direction for the club.

A lot of you might not see it as match-fixing, but it's 100% match-fixing. This s**t needs to stop. But I hazard a guess it happens a lot in the AFL but only the ones that don't know how to get away with it get caught.

I don't want to have to sit at matches as a supporter and wonder if the outcome of a match of a play is directly affected by 'x player/s' for the purpose of a f**king selfish bet. Throw the book.
It is 100% not match fixing.

If you're going to have a rant get the basics right.

Even the term "match fixing" is self explanatory.

You're kidding me right? I study sports business and studied ethics in sports as a subject, went through case studies and I can tell you now this IS match-fixing. Match-fixing isn't just the end result of a match.

In organized sports, match fixing occurs as a match is played to a completely or partially pre-determined result, violating the rules of the game and often the law." Match fixing, when motivated by gambling, requires contacts (and normally money transfers) between gamblers, players, team officials, and/or referees."

This also comes down to spot-fixing which falls under match-fixing. It's all the same, it's all match-fixing.

Gee in an effort to get news on-line quickly - spell check has gone out of the window.

The AFL's general counsel Adnrew Dillon will address the media early this afternoon and Collingwood's CEO Mark Anderson and football manager Geoff Walsh will speak, along with Stephenson, at 2pm.

If it's two bets at the same time and they are both similar (possession counts) then I doubt that this has much effect on the outcome/punishment. If it does, it would only be minor.

For instance, in a criminal matter if you stole $50 from someones account, but did it in two $25 transactions at the same time, then you would be charged with the two accounts of fraud/theft (2x$25) but your punishment would usually equate to stealing $50.

Maxwell was caught in 2011 and didn’t self report. Punishment was much more severe.

The only reason they were caught was because Maxwell's odds for First girl dropped from $101 to $26.
Raised a red flag.

Betting on Pendles for most Possies isn't exactly going to set off any alarms.

And Maxwell wasn't even suspended, only fined.

The pressa is at 1230pm I think. Does anyone have a live stream link to the pressa?

I've got no doubt it'll be on SEN in its entirety.

Sam McClure was just on air suggesting the AFL are pushing for ten weeks or more. We are obviously negotiating for the best outcome possible.

Doesn't sound like a wrist slap, that's for sure.
