Are you serious. He is a core part of our forward line for sure, but if we can’t make the top 4 without him we don’t deserve to be there with him. He’s only 1 player, last year we had a significant injury toll and still made it to the GF. Be more optimistic

I'm optimistic for sure, but I don't see who replaces him? Elliot? Well, he is injured and will probably struggle to get continuity through the season. There's more to Stevo than just his goals. He is a key part of a structure. He makes defenders sweat.

22 matches for a $36 bet...

Meanwhile, on the AFL website, I've got $1.30 odds for the Pies to knock off the Dogs this weekend, four separate links to place a bet via BetEasy, and a sponsored content video they promote the **** out of every freakin' week where Campbell Brown, Wayne Carey, and some other knob I've never heard of who is somehow even less likeable than his panellists telling me to have a punt (but do it responsibly, of course).

Let's not even start with the endless stream of sports gambling advertising that they're happy enough to line their pockets with during the games themselves.

"Complete joke" doesn't go close to doing the AFL justice.
You could make that argument about any advertising the AFL accepts

AFL sponsored by Car companies - Hoon Driving
AFL sponsored by Food Companies - Obesity

Not sure it stacks up

Going against the flow here, but... We all do stupid things. It's how we deal with them that measures our character. With the initial disappointment now wearing off, I'm actually pleased that he's had the character, and the spine, to self-report. We need to balance criticism for the action with praise for the recovery. He's obviously of good character, and we're going to reap the benefits of that for a long time to come.
As for the sanctimonious prats banging on here as if he's a complete idiot and they have the right to say so (you know who you are)... take a look in the mirror.

We almost won a GF with half a back-line...

Over the top penalty. Who cares if he had a few bets - none were on the pies to lose and people get screwed everyday by the gambling industry who are happy to take one’s money and even quicker to bar them for winning.

Yes, he should be embarrassed and ashamed and I'm furious about what he did.

It's so ridiculously stupid that it's beyond words.

Having said that, I still love the guy and hope that he can mentally deal with this and comes back to kill them in the finals (if we make it).

What has me gobsmacked is that he did it 3 weeks in a row and then self-reported. Once is bad enough but 3 times before coming clean? WTF?!?

I'm still on the AFL live stream from 12.30pm page and nothing - did it even happen? lol
It happened. They just trotted out that Captain Serious t-rd Dillon who prattled on for a while then exited with haste. Penalty about right though. Just would have been nice to have it start as soon as he self-reported to get a run into the finals.

No,it's not worse, actually. There's nothing worse than caving someone's head in in an act of of onfield violence.
One is a heat of the moment brain fade in game. The other is a calculated decision to deceive. He broke a rule 3 times in an attempt to reap financial rewards from something he could control.

He cheated.

Should have had every book the AFL has thrown at him.

I don't have a problem with Stevo's punishment, it's deserved.

I do have a problem with the AFL acting holier than thou and hanging a kid out to dry on an issue they have absolutely no leg to stand on.

Yep, but how many are now going to self-report with that massive suspension? I suspect very few. The AFL did it's own system an injustice here and just put off all other gambling players from coming forward...

So? Stevo was playing. In 2018 he was equal third in goals kicked for our club. So, if we find a replacement for the next ten weeks, then things should be ok. But again, who can come in and average 2 goals per game? Elliot is our answer, but again, he is injured. Who else? Defense can only do so much.

He betted on a specific margin result in one of our matches. Does this not alarm anyone else, the fact that a player in a team would do that?Surely there are other players involved for him to place these type of bets. No one would have a specific margin playing for a team and not have players within the club to get the margin result. Alarming. Concerning. Stupid.

He is obviously a gambler, and on his wage and the value of the bet it was not done for financial gain. He could be addicted and for those types it's something deeper that has it's hold on you - not just the prospect of financial gain.

What a dumb thing to do. Listening to what he was actually betting on, eg. Himself to kick goals, hmmm! He is lucky he isnt missing 22 matches. I wouldn't play him again this year. No footy for 10 weeks, to then come straight in and play finals footy, can't see that happening. Send him away from the footy environment for awhile, head overseas and come back to the club to start a early pre season. Still not sure why it took him 3 bets to get the guilts, or did panick set in that he was going to get caught so he confessed to the club. He seems a nice kid, but unfortunately his rep has taken a hit inside and outside the footy club. lt's a long road back for the young man, here's hoping he gets through it, unfortunately for the footy club, that will only be seen next year.
Good opportunity for a Daicos to come in and play a role, a maybe even get a taste of finals footy.

He won’t play finals. Too much time out and someone else would have cemented the forward spot by then.
Remember, he was close to being dropped a month ago.
You really do adz something with such posting.

Stephenson is now set to be gelded before returning in September. Could prolong his playing career but who knows if he’ll come back in the same form?
Father son?

I was just making a comparison. Again he is only 1 player and as good as he is he doesn’t have the influence of a Wayne Carey or Franklin to suggest that we can’t compete without him. Elliot seems the likely replacement. You think De Goey plays as a full-time forward now. We get Adams back and keep Sier in the midfield. Just make adjustments.
