Steve has been my favourite player since I was about 10 years old, and I'm devastated that he has announced his retirement :(

Many great memories, and I'm glad that he has retired when he is still playing well.

Go SOS :) :(

All footy fans should be upset at the retirement of the full back of the Century.

Well I'm shattered then. :D

What a sensational player, was the great SOS. I heard he's going to join the coaching panel at Carlton. How good is the coaching team over there at Optus, Kernahan, Williams, now SOS, it's no wonder they breed great juniors

A great champion to the game, respected not only by the Carlton faithful but from the 15 other club supporters. I'll miss seeing the Number 1 for Carlton next year.

a fantastic full back for many many years, a pretty handy full forward as well who could kick the odd bag every now and again...SOS will be greatly missed next season! A fantastic career.

Sad day for this Blue boy

SOS intended to go on next year but medical advice has forced him to give the game away.

Thanks for the memories SOS. We'll miss you.

The biggest cheat of the last 10 years has retired. He scragged, pulled, held and generally played outside the rules.

Forget Wayne Carey and Hird (a victim of a Skob) Slivagni has been the most protected player in the modern game.

It is with no great sadness I see him retiring as Carlton has no key defender in their side. Tall forward lines will reek havoc and Carlton’s policy of investing in the youth will become more evident year after year.

Slivagni is a cheat and has got away with murder. I’m starting to think Goldspink would let him have sex with his wife because he was that protected.

haha You've had your disrespectful little spit, now run along and play and leave intelligent conversation to those more capable. You look at everything as a Collingwood fan instead of as a football fan. Newsflash ...without the rest of the competition Collingwood would just be playing with themselves! ... oh ... too late I see.

Shame!

How disrespectful of you Rohan. Methinks that you didn't like SOS because he always ripped Collingwood's defence apart. Give him a break! He has done more in his career than Buckley ever will ;)

Goodbye and farewell Steve...you are a true football legend.

This will definately hurt Carlton and the Blues won't look the same without the full back of the century lining up in the #1 jumper.

BTW, I personally think Chris Langford should have been full back of the century, but SOS was close! ;)

The Hitman

congrats to sos for being an outstanding ambassador not only to his club but also his family and the game in general.may your retirement be one of enjoyment[no doubt about that when ya got a wife like jo:D] and no doubt a spot in the eletronic media.
cheers!

Sorry to resurrect this, but had to take the chance to pay tribute to a player I have been following almost as long as I've been following footy. What a champion, what a sad day.
