Incredible day, bands i saw were:

Amon Amarth
Black Dahlia Murder
Testament
Trivium
Clutch
Baroness
Down
Gojira
Devildriver
Rob Zombie
Dillinger Escape Plan
King Parrot
Mastodon

Missed Alice In Chains unfortunately, band of the day for me were Down, Phil was on fire! Followed by Mastodon & Rob Zombie. Must say though that every band i saw was on the top of their game, just awesome stuff.

Having now been to a number of Euro Metal fests, i gotta say the whole caging off of bars is absolute horseshit!! Screw the Vic government for enforcing that rule, it takes away a little bit from the festival. It will never be as good as the Euro fests but it's the best we're gonna get here in Aus.

Kudos to the old couple I spoke to who were getting their rock fix. Not sure they ever got off their park bench, but good to see a bit of diversity in the crowd.

First year I've truly felt festivals just aren't that great.. I'm only young, but it just doesn't compare to a club show.

Really can take away from a performance with a less than enthusiastic crowd.

Went to my first SW today in Adelaide, not having been to a festival since the 06 BDO.

Baroness were my highlight, amazing live. Mastodon, The Living End, Alter Bridge, Gojira also very good, while DEP, Jimmy Eat World, Biffy, Down and Placebo had their moments. The Bosshoss were unexpectedly amusing/entertaining. Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Maybe overdid the booze before entering the venue, but still had a sensational day:

Highlights
Amon Amarth - a viking hanging off the front of his ship fronting an excellent melodic death metal band; can't remember a festival starting this well
Testament
Trivium
Alice
Dillinger
Mastodon

Disappontments
1) Stiff Little Fingers - got there after they played Suspect Device, and they just reminded me why I was a punk for one year and that was enough
2) Not being able to see Baroness.....but I was unbelievably lucky with the scheduling apart from that

Kn*b of the day
The Living End bloke playing into Placebo's set time and saying something like "We own this stage, it's ours". Do me a favour, you were a late additon to the bill; fk off!

Others quite enjoyed
Biffy Clyro
Black Dahlia Murder
The Ghost Inside
Placebo - would have preferred some of their older stuff

Norm Smith Medal
Dillinger - something like No 8 on my priority list and absolutely slayed it.
Runners up: Trivium and Alice in Chains

Amon Amarth were fantastic, very worth getting there so early. My faves were Testament or Alice In Chains, GWAR were funny and Dillinger went well. Also Clutch, Satirycon, Mastodon, even the Black Dahlia Murder impressed me. A day to remember sucked, not my thing at all.

Anyone see Rocket from the Crypt?
Yep!

They were pretty good. I saw them at the Hifi on Monday too, great high energy garage/punkish rock n roll.

Good to know. I'm still trying to decide whether to get there early tomorrow to see them or just rock up a bit later for Alter Bridge. I'm only going for Alter Bridge and Trivium so when they aren't on I have some time to check out a few bands I wouldn't normally.

Went to Melbourne. Upon a burning Body, Trivium, Alice in Chains, Down, Gojira, DevilDriver, Avenged. Went to the Alice and Down sideshow the night before as well. Great times! Down probably the highlight. Got Mike Inez and Jerry Cantrell guitar pics as well.

I wish I'd seen Amon Amarth but I had to be at another stage.

The reason they go on so early is it takes a couple of hours to put their Viking ship stage together so that means that they have to be the first act on a stage.

A couple of lower key acts that impressed were Pulled Apart by Horses, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats and The Bosshoss - Living Colour are a class act if you want to take a break from heavy stuff.

Alice in Chains were the **** on Thursday night. Almost the perfect gig.

Gojira, Testament, Baroness, DEP and Clutch the other highlights of the festival.

It'd been a long time since I'd seen Filter, but "hey man nice shot" and "Jurasitol" still pack a punch.

One of the sad things about one of my favourite bands (The Story So Far) is that the sound was pretty average, and Parker's voice isn't as good live as it is on record.

Apart from that, I had a great day. Melbs was way less packed than last year (I may even grow to like Flemington one day), and it was generally pretty cruisey to get a decent view of whoever you wanted to see.
Letlive, AFI, Real Friends, and Jimmy Eat World were my highlights.

On a down side, I wasn't allowed to take in my empty bottle like it said on the ticket we were. The security guard just took it off me and put it in the bin. Then to see that it cost $5 for a shitty bottle that they don't even let you have the lid for....that's a crime.

TSSF had no issues in Adelaide, they were great!
I went home with Real Friends drumstick, I'm rapt

For me the highlight was Trivium. They were brilliant and I'm glad I got the chance to see them as I just missed them 2 years ago. I was a casual fan of them before Soundwave but they have made a bigger fan out of me. Energy from the crowd was the best of any band I seen on Monday and goes to show that nothing beats a metal gig.

As a massive fan of Alter Bridge I was slightly disappointed but Myles isn't 100% so I'll cut them some slack. Saying that they were still pretty good but I don't like seeing them in a festival setting TBH. I went to both sideshows in 2012 and they are much better in a more intimate setting IMO. Still, I'll take seeing them in a festival setting than not seeing them at all. I just wish they had a longer set.

GWAR while not being exactly my thing were good as well. The show they put on is ridiculous and if you ever get a chance to see them then do it as it is worth it for the show alone.

Richie Sambora is a major ****. Went 25 minutes over which meant I missed out on seeing the Living End. It wouldn't have been so bad if he was playing original stuff but he was only playing covers. Seemed like he was pissed as well which is strange since he is supposed to be 'sober'.
