With you there on the seniors Gersman. Lindisfarne’s best is the best in comp, just a matter of whether they can bring it for long enough to match the consistent Port, I think they can.

What are your thoughts on the other two games.

Huonville have had one hand on the cup since round 1, can’t see them being troubled.

Reserves is where it gets interesting I think.
Looks like Sorell dropped 4 guys back from their losing senior elimination final side for the reserves semi final a fortnight ago, yet only 2 of those 4 played last week in the preliminary final.

My understanding was that once you were eliminated in a senior final, that 22 could no longer drop back to play reserves even if they had played enough games to qualify during regular season. Perhaps rules have changed or the league are not doing their due diligence.

Lindisfarne reserves are apparently not happy with the result from the semi final given the illegal side that Sorell put on the park but the powers that be told them the result stands and nothing can be done about it except to eliminate the illegal players for the rest of the finals series - yet 2 continued to play on v Huonville on Saturday.

Looks like there has been two tough battles between Sorell and Brighton so far this year but also hard to tell how close both sides were to full strength in either matchup.

Crowd will be largely favouring Brighton after talking to a couple of players from other clubs the last few weeks and potentially a fair few of Brighton’s older brigade hanging up the boots with a flag given the move to the premier league next year.

Wouldn't matter if it's under the cap or not, Hobart love the old half cash half bank transfer stuff.

I think Brighton should get the chocolate's with McGee and McCarthy back in, McGee would have to be one of the most underrated footballers in the sfl, Ive rarely seen him get beaten in a one on one contest, was stiff not to win an association b&f a few years back, was flying in the voting before coach Beck called him up to the seniors.

Seniors could be anyone's game, I reckon it all comes down to the weather this week, north Hobart oval suits lindisfarnes hard runners though, expecting a high scoring game.

Everyone's predictions for tomorrow?

Looks like it might be a little wet and cold tomorrow and I think that favours Cygnet, tight, tough game with lots of stoppages, if the rain holds off I think it could be a high scoring game, cygnet by 11 for me.

In the reserves Brighton have obviously been the team to beat, only losing the one game for the year which was to Sorell who they meet in the grand final tomorrow, apart from Brighton putting huge scores on the bad few teams this year they haven't been scoring that well, I've said all week Brighton should win and I'd love to see their club stalwarts In the McCarthy brothers, Robottom and Collis get some success but I'm going to go Sorell by 3 in a very low scoring game.

Seems odd as the clubs in premier league represent a community also.

Why not Div 1 and Div 2?

Should be promotion/relegation.
Like David said, some clubs aren't interested in being promoted and just happy winning div 2 premierships. There is also some requirements to join the Premier League but it could change after a few years.

Yerp a few clubs holding the growth of the game back?
Really sad. I see no reason why Jordan Lane can’t stay at Cygnet and play Div 1 apart from Cygnet themselves.
I guess Cygnet are worried they will get exposed as just not being that good in comparison.

So what remains? Teams stuck getting flogged year after year and teams being flogged by the same Huon clubs each year.

No leadership from the SFL. If the Huon clubs main priority is playing against each other then maybe they should go and revive Channel, Franklin, Kermandie and start the Huon comp up again.

I was talking to a past Cygnet player recently who felt if they were to regain the players from Kingborough that are from Cygnet originally, plus Lane from Lauderdale, that it could be quite confronting for the rest of the Community clubs.

With that considered, they’d surely be more competitive in the Premier League than Brighton for mine. Other than their U15s who won their third straight flag, their other youth sides were terribly ordinary which doesn’t bode well for the future up against your Clarences who have a stockpile of good kids coming through.

Yerp exactly.

I just don’t get why we can’t have the best 7 teams in Div one and the other 7 in Div 2.

Why is potentially the 4th or 5th best team in the south (Cygnet) playing against the 13th and 14th in Hobart and Claremont.

Yeah I'd have to agree with you on that.
Needs to be a promotion/relegation system for it to maintain any proper interest I feel.
If Brighton thinks they'll do any good at premier league level they're dreaming. Won't happen.
At best they're a moderate side in a one sided comp at the moment, relying on beating up on bottom sides to sneak into the five.
Hasn't won a senior premiership since the 90s or even played in a grand final since then.
Only got the nod 'cos they got a new clubroom built. Undeserving of a promotion IMO.
Both Huon clubs far superior but they only seem to be inward focussed. Never interested in anything outside the Huon.
Not sure what to make of this "community league" bulldust.
Just call it SFL Division 1 and SFL Division 2. Simple.

There’d be no appeal for Huonville to compete in the Premier League as they’d then be up against Kingborough which is the resource of a number of their players.

It isn’t about the appeal for clubs it’s the appeal for the game.

Kieran Lovell is Huonville original isn’t he? I’m sure Kingston would have a few more in that boat.
Imagine Lovell playing at Huonville when not playing VFL.

Interesting! Wasn't lack of players that killed them off last time, it was lack of supporters and $$$.

"A Letter to Sandy Bay Lions Junior Football Club Families

Dear Families,

The purpose of this communication is to inform the families of the SBJFC that a group of motivated and committed individuals connected with Sandy Bay football have formed a working party with the strong intent of re-establishing the Sandy Bay Football Club which was formed in 1944 and continued through until 1997. After initial meetings earlier this year, it was resolved to strategically and professionally work towards achieving this outcome.

In short, it is planned for the working party to complete a submission by the end of the year for admission into the Southern Football League (SFL). The next step would be for the SFL Board and club presidents to consider our submission and make a decision about our request.

If successful, the Sandy Bay Football Club would field senior men’s and women’s teams, a men’s reserves team and men’s and women’s Under 18 teams. If the Club was invited into the SFL, the earliest commencement would be 2027.

Why re-establish the Sandy Bay Football Club?
🔹to provide a direct pathway for the junior and youth players in the Sandy Bay community from Auskick to senior SFL football
🔹to increase the football participation and retention of juniors in the Sandy Bay community
🔹to increase school football programs in the Sandy Bay zone
🔹to include the Sandy Bay Football Club into the next exciting chapter of Tasmanian football history - the commencement of the Tassie Devils into the AFL and AFLW
🔹to be a key club in the development of football in the state
🔹to honour and respect past players, officials and supporters of the Sandy Bay Football Club and continue their outstanding contributions from 1944 to 1997
🔹to build a successful and unique model for a football club in Tasmania
🔹to support other stakeholder clubs in the Sandy Bay zone – Sandy Bay Lions Junior Football Club, Tasmania University Football Club and Hutchins School Old Boys Football Club

The working party’s submission will be underpinned by these values:
• community
• uniqueness/innovation
• quality/success

It would be greatly appreciated if all SBJFC families could provide strong support for this club direction which will impact positively on club growth and player development. Please share this information with family and friends and be advised that the working party would warmly welcome all interested individuals to assist in the submission process.

The SBJFC is the third biggest Club in Southern Tasmania, this year participation numbers increased by 94 players, a total of 445 individuals from Auskick to our women’s Under 18 team. The SBJFC continues to grow impressively as a result of the strong leadership of the Club’s committee.

Feel free to contact me at any time if you require more information about the senior club submission or if you would like to be actively involved at some level in our direction.

Go Lions!

Steven Hay
Development Officer"
