St Kilda named in another incident

Unfortunately I suspect that remains to be seen. I listened to Lyon on SEN on my way home yesterday and his denials in regard to the public urination issue were not very convincing. Even when you read what has been printed in the papers it sounds way too much like the sort of gobblygook that politicians come out with to avoid giving straight answers. I hope I'm wrong for your sake but St Kilda and press conferences haven't exactly gone well lately.

"It came as allegations of a separate drunken incident were denied by the Saints and New Zealand police"

Convinced now or are we going to hear some tin foil hat theory

Lets be honest here, they were majorly drunk and probably have little recollection of the nights events.

Not exactly going to be easy to place the exact happenings is it, to mount some kind 'it's our word against yours' scenario.

To my knowledge is (unfortunately) probably the best they can do, and I think all things considered, the club has handled it the best they can.

Yes I guess it was always going to be difficult to make it look especially wonderful but getting tough will go a long way to turning it around. Let's just hope that those later allegations turn out to be unfounded.

You should be proud that Ball was named ahead of Didak to straighten out your culture.

We are. At Collingwood we choose the best people to lead the club, not neccessarily the best players, hence Nick Maxwell as Captain and players like Ball on the leadership group. That gives us the best possible change to ensure players like Didak stay on the straight and narrow. And it worked.

This post will probably get lost in the trash tossing dross between Pies and Saints fans but here goes.....

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/prescri...es-try-to-avoid-detection-20110201-1achp.html

Some informative coverage of Hill Billy E.

It's funny that, with the drug supply/demand economics it would be far cheaper for psychonauts (and probably just as risky from a health perspective) to purchase the illegal product. The husband of a NSW State Rep recently got busted for buying a pill for $20.

The only reason the AFL players do it is to avoid detection. I assume that players have a blanket script for Stillnox. The club order wouldn't be issuing scripts each time they ask for them.

What Dr Peter Larkins doesn't say, is to gain the maximum performance increase from caffeine tablets (up to 7%), players need to train whilst taking them. That's one of the reasons why sleeping tablets are readily available to players.

If they AFL wants to address the issue they can do one of two things:

* Ban the use of caffeine tablets. Tricky, because the World Anti-Doping Agency removed caffeine from its list of banned substances on January 1, 2004. It's impossible to differentiate tablets from a heavy coffee drinker.

* Restrict the supply to sleeping tablets to only those players that are on the injury list. This means over-caffeinated players (or as Dr Larkins says - "all wired up by after-match adrenalin") will have to deal with the downside of their performance increase without pharmaceutical aid.

The Kiwi radio host who have been making their own inquiries said that it is alleged that 4 St Kilda players were urinating in the street, a restaurateur approached and a scuffle broke out where allegedly punches were thrown and he was felled by the players. Another male then stepped in to help and a further scuffle broke out. Police were called and something about them being involved.

Ross Lyon on SEN saying knew about this incident but says its all lies and someone perhaps making it up.

The Kiwi was lying & many of you fell for it.

"But it emerged yesterday that when his teammates were out mixing alcohol and sleeping pills, Dawson was already tucked up in bed."

That means only three players where out on the town mixing alcohol & sleeping pills. Big hole in the story there.

"New Zealand Police spokeswoman said she was unaware of any incident"

"Greg Hutchison said a Queenstown man might even be charged for giving false evidence"

"The man at the centre of the claims has refused to make a complaint to police"

''Once that person's name was mentioned, the police said: 'Look, we are aware of this person, leave it with us and we'll take care of it if we need to speak to you again"

Saints chief executive Michael Nettlefold said: ''Our understanding of that is it's a complete fabrication.''

Now it is very interesting that that the police say that they are aware of "this person" not that they are aware of "this incident". If he had not reported it how are they aware on him? Clearly is he as the saying goes "known to the police". Furthermore if police arrived how come they are unaware of the incident?

It looked & smelled suss from the very beginning but some people here are so full of it that they will believe anything as long as it is about another club. Some drongo’s are going to continue to say it is all lies by St Kilda, they show what they are by their statements.

Hey Amber Guzzler what about you admit you where wrong when you said Lyon was lyin?

"New Zealand Police spokeswoman said she was unaware of any incident"
The report I read said "The woman who answered the phone". That could be the cleaning woman for all we know.
"Greg Hutchison said a Queenstown man might even be charged for giving false evidence"

"The man at the centre of the claims has refused to make a complaint to police"
How can he be charged with giving false evidence if he hasn't made a complaint to the police? That sounds a bit sus.

The rest of your post was really clutching at straws.

"But it emerged yesterday that when his teammates were out mixing alcohol and sleeping pills, Dawson was already tucked up in bed."

Supplied by a relatively senior player. If he did that in Melbourne he would be charged.

If clutching straws was an Olympic event, you lot would win the team relay.

If they had recruited Krakouer, you would be twisting the knife in them for recruiting a player who had served time and possibly couldn't attend their NZ training camp.

Get off your high horse.

You won the flag in spite of Beams being suspended for breaking team rules and Swan being king hit on the night of a win.

If someone is a recidivist like Fevola, there's nothing you can do to change their behaviour. Yet These guys have broken curfew after getting drunk and taking prescription drugs. There's no evidence that they're any different to some of your players who have won a flag with the Pies.

You should be proud that Ball was named ahead of Didak to straighten out your culture. Ball and Hudghton tasted a flag as a player and coach in their first year at Collingwood. It's amazing that they avoided to bring St Kilda's poisonous culture across with them and corrupt a classy group of players.

You're putting Maxwell up there with these captains?

Ignoring Riewoldt's gutsy match saving mark in the first GF is foolish.

http://www.gameanalyser.afl.com.au/...ype=contestedMark&seek=7574&videoQuality=high

Riewoldt would be your best player.

I wouldn't mind Riewoldt on the list, but come grand final time he'd just be another Leon Davis. Maxwell is a great captain, by the way.

Not sure why a Kiwi would be motivated to make up stories about what the Saints players did.

Its not as if AFL is exactly big in NZ and he's going to become rich and famous for getting punched out by some 20 year old Sandringham players.....

Collingwood supporter perhaps?

The Kiwi was lying & many of you fell for it.

So we all fell for it did we Baldur?? Care to review this. Your club is a pathetic rabble that has now taken over Richmond in the comedy stakes. This was actually another incident!!! Thats hilafrious. And even funnier are the statements coming out of the club. Ms Galbally (a senior lawyer - whoooopdedo!) syas she has taken statements from the players and they have no case to answer. Oh ok thats fine. Gilbert has so much credibility nowadays doesn't he.

St Nick says the public are trying to bring them down. Sorry you pathetic captain, you are doing a pretty good job of it yourselves. We are just sitting enjoying the show. Very uninspiring comments too by the captain that basically is not identifying the problems they have but pushing the blame onto the general public.

It takes time to identify root cause.

No, not particularly but I have no particular reason to come up with theories. Time will tell how it all pans out. Unlike some, I don't believe everything I read in the papers.

I agree that it sometimes takes a lot of time for the root cause of something to be recognised.
For example, the Hawks win a premiership a few years back and then fall out of contention. Some within the Club now recognize that the brilliant decision to trek Kokoda led to a significant player-bonding and an unsociable attitude; and silverware. Someone in management made a good decision for the Off-Season focus on Kokoda.

Management of other teams watched with great interest the Kokoda payoff with a premiership. Reasoning the off-season focus may be a key to success. But what off-season to try?
High altitude training?
Community service training.
Commando training?
The list of options can be long.

St Kilda (2011) has chosen the adrenalin thrill seeking of bungee jumping, abseiling, outdoor challenge. During the day of adrenalin rushes they hydrate the 20 year olds with gatorade cordials (choose red if you dare).
Is it any wonder that they can't sleep after that?

A bum decision by management?
Maybe.
But the players, over-dosed on adrenalin and energy drinks, have the 6-week penalty.

Management only wants to own a decision if there is success.
Failure has no parents.

I read your post Rizzo. You are probably the first person to make a sensible comment on this entire thread.

It was a very good post... but I can't for the life of me work out what caffeine and sleeping tablets have to do with St Kilda players urinating and fighting in public and then make a lame attempt to cover it up???

Can you help me out?
