What a ****ing slog of a match. Props to the blues who played extremely well.

Quick Pros, Billings was outstanding. Probably best game for the club outside of the comeback game.

Dunstan really put forward a case for his spot as well. Apart from that pass to Ross didnt put a foot wrong really.

Carlisle was immense in the first half and still good after coming back on.

Cons: Webster's likely broken hand.

More to come!

Bank the 4 points.

Ugly game, but nice to win ugly & kick away a bit towards the end. Should have won by more. Still can't fathom why Newnes kicked to the hot spot when only 50m out at the end there, when he could have easily just run out to his right a bit & kicked for goal.

That kick to the spot 20m out from goal is the most disgusting & frustating thing in our game plan. It's terrible.

The amount of times the camera was on Bruce leading to space & then pans back to the kicker just bombing it to the spot is just awful. No wonder Bruce looks so poor, he busts a gut making leads that aren't honoured & is then forced to attempt pack marks when it's a 2 on 4 situation....

From the other thread, but interestingly, I just checked, and over the pre-season we had predicted we'd be 6-2 at this point. So not far off. Moreover, we predicted we'd be 6-3 after we expected to lose against Sydney, whereas that has since become a very winnable game.

It was an ugly match at times for us. So frustrating that we would continually bomb it long only for a Blues player to mark it. I thought Bruce and Membrey were really poor today, apart from the last quarter in which they both came good.

Gilbert was huge, slotted back into Webster's position and contested brilliantly. Great game from Billings too. Also, I thought Brown stood up under a LOT of pressure, perhaps lucky to get away with a few decisions, but he just competes all day, I love him.

The last quarter was impressive. We'd been down a man and still managed to outrun the Blues. Webster was a huge loss structurally.

End of the day, the kind of game that you're just happy to get out of with a win. The Blues took it up to us big time.

Selection next week is interesting. Who comes in for Jimmy? Rice, White and DMac all have a case. I think Minch will be right on the edge too after that performance. Weller also needs to do more than he did today. Koby definitely comes in. Paddy will have a case to come in too if he plays well.

Our forward pressure was a bit down today, so Wright may be looked at again. Still think Roo is hobbling as well and needs a rest.

Good win by the lads great to see the 4th quarter is now a strength but looked like a bit of effort was lacking against a lesser side.

Murphy the captain showing his class at only being able to talk shit to an injured oponent.. probably shit his dacks when he realised Carlisle recovered from it.

Soo next game... wright, stevens in? weller/minch, dunstan out? Stevens out clearly had an impact in the mids. Yes Dunstan had 28 disposals but as an inside mid with only 7 contested possessions 5 clangers and 1 clearance plus looking out of place in link up play and caught trailing behind his opponent a little too often means he doesnt automatically keep his spot in my mind. Really gotta earn that spot.

Forward line needs tinkering

Ugly win but we got there.

Forward entry cost us all day unfortunately. Great game from Jacky boy who kicked more goals that Roo, Bruce, Membrey, Minchington, Gresham and Weller combined.

Ross was terrific. I said at the start of last season f the year if he wants to go to the highest level he needed to start kicking goals, which he has. Newnes and Steven also good while Steele and Dunstan were solid without being great.

This week would have been the perfect opportunity to rest Roo who looks like he's due for one. It also give Paddy a crack.

The lowlight besides the obvious skill erros for me was the pathetic hate Dunstan was copping on the match thread. I for one think he needed to be dropped, as did most of our posters and I also think he should be first out for Stevens. But he came in as a depth player with two of our main midfielders out and he did his job, unfortunately all some wanted to do was shit can him and concentrate on a couple of errors. I'm not sure what game they were watching but there were more errors from the whole team that I can think of that didn't even crack a mention, not to mention he is a much better game than quite a few that seemed to go under the radar. It's sad that we have continually have to have a scapegoat on here. I'm happy that with even a couple of injuries we can find someone to bring in and at least do a job.

Ok, we won which is a good thing. Playing like that would we have beaten any team in the 8? Our habit of playing in patches, our kicking for goal and our bottom 4 are still a concern.

OUT: Riewoldt, Webster
IN: Stevens, McCartin

Dunstan stays due to the opposition, and Newnes goes to half back for Jimmy. Otherwise Dunstan for White, Savage, DMac as well, or perhaps Wright returns to the back line.

Only other thing to mention, besides Billings, is that IF Murphy did indeed spit on Jake - I know the Murphy boys, and while I didn't like Marc, I'd be shocked he did something like that - it deserves nothing less than a suspension.

A truly disgusting act.
