Kevin Sheehan’s 2024 Telstra AFL Draft top 40 prospects - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1255450

Hugh Boxshall
State: Western Australia
State League Club: Claremont
Community Club: Swanbourne
Date of Birth: 11/07/2006
Height: 187cm

Medium midfielder with a real competitive edge. Wins the contested ball with his clean hands and uses his vision and awareness to set up his teammates. Strong overhead and an aggressive tackler, he had a real positive impact for Western Australia when he returned from injury, playing the last three games of the National Championships where he averaged 18.7 disposals (eight contested) and was among his side’s best against South Australia and Victoria Country. Finished the year in outstanding form at Colts level, being among the best afield with 30 disposals in Claremont’s Grand Final-winning team. Was outstanding in testing at the state Draft Combine in Perth, ranking second on the 2km time trial (6:08), third on the agility test (7.98 seconds) and fourth on the running vertical jump (86cm).
Weapon: Ability to win the contested ball and clean hands
AFL player comparison: Jye Caldwell

It’s difficult not to be excited about this kid. He looks exceptional. Tough, quick, agile and a midfielder! I would’ve happily taken him inside the top 20.
The fact we were willing to give up a future 2nd for him (and a future 4th) speaks volumes for how much we rated him. Mid 40’s in this draft is like about 30 in some of the recent drafts.

Apparently Melbourne’s guy said he didn’t rate anyone after 20 as worth taking last year!

He’s also another Dayryple special, having really blossomed just this year, especially late. Simon loves those types.

Took a little look at the Colts GF. He mentioned Dunkley being someone he models or plays like. Very similar in style. Taranto would be another. Kicking is relatively poor.

Amazing that he has played as a HBF until this year given how natural he is in tight as a midfielder. Awesome in clearances and has excellent hands when getting tackled to get it out to teammates. He looks like he’ll be a big boy when developed.

At one point he had 14 contested out of his 17 touches. Perfect to feed it out to our runners / kickers.

Don't like the Jye Caldwell comparison, mainly because he ignored us & joined the cheats instead ;)
