Apologies for the intrustion
Only read the first page of this thread so far.
But i was shocked at how sensible and classy the posts here were regarding the Goldy free kick.
Compared to on the main board people are saying the umps had money on us and it's a conspiracy, etc.

Anyway credit to the fight you guys showed.
Heart was racing in those final mins.

Well, I wouldn't read any further if I were you. Some pretty frustrated, p......d off posters here. Including me.

Hahaha. I like how happy the board is to suck up fake condolences from posters each and every week, but as soon as it becomes apparent there's a backlash.

You lot parody yourselves.

We should change the board name to 'Even the commentators...'.
But if they congratulate us for fighting hard and pushing them we can claim the moral victory

I don't understand how not towing the majority line, thinking for one's self, is seen as acting with hatred and aggression.
Its not and should be encouraged, however your post was directed not at a majority line but seemed to be trying to prove some ethereal point.

I dont understand this type of posting. It seems to just want to incite. Is thats what it is for?

I honestly dont understand it.

What moral victory?

Nobody knows if we could have won. All we know is that the umpire ensured we lost.

Seems some on here dont like it when posters say we played well.

If they dont need to be called at really important times then when should they be called?

The umpires job is to pay the free kicks they see. The ump saw Hickey take his eyes off the ball, make front on contact with Goldstein and impede his jump in the ruck contest.

Was it a 50/50 call that could be let go? Sure. Was is wrong of the ump to pay it? No. Should the umpire have let it go because it was the last 2 minutes of a really close game? No ******* way!

The umpire isnt there to impact the outcome bt design (although Troy Panell might be a different story) but to say that the Hickey free was a mistake because it impacted the outcome of the game is laughable.

Hypothetical for you - 2020 Grand Final. Saints vs GWS. Paddy McCartin marks the ball 55m out as the final siren goes. Saints down by 4 points.

As Paddy is walking back to the top of his run up Tom Scully walks through the 10m zone. Hell, he wanders across the mark.

Now Paddy hasnt even started his run up. Scully has had NO impact on the shot for goal. Should the umpire ignore paying a technical 50m penalty because it will influence the outcome of the contest?
You pretty much described what Wellingham did to Schneider in the last quarter of the 2010 Grand Final.

It's an observation, and pointed toward self-awareness.

Jumping up and down claiming the numbers are on your side because X agrees with you and Y said you 'got robbed' makes absolutely no difference to the outcome.

It's no more inciting than 'You're wrong, X+Y+Z agrees with me, you peanut'.

I can only assume that the AFL thought the 30 shot clock on the screen after a mark inside the forward 50 would add to the excitement but all it has done is ensure that every player takes 27 seconds before they start their run up. Wood today was just the most obvious one I have seen. The AFL will will remove it, if not next week that certainly next year.
Maybe I imagine it but when Roo takes a mark, the clock starts before he hits the ground. There seems to be no hurry for anyone else.

True. It makes no difference. I was more interested in your use of "you lot".

Seems likecyou have a distain for your fellow supporters. Is this true?

And on the other side of the argument, should not posters be allowed to complain about a dubious free at the end of a game without being derided or having their views shut down?

Everyone knows it makes no difference to the outcome, unless of course you are Freo, but supporters can discuss it without being harrassed and told they are wrong.
It is just opinions after all

you mean the one today when 60m from goal a North player follows a Saints player through the mark and no free is awarded, despite it being prohibitively again the rules......

If Acres can improve his kicking to a more respectable level then we have a special player on our hands. There were a few times that he just made space out of nowhere, pendlebury-esque. He's not lightning quick but he just manages to get himself out of tight situations.

Love him, but he really needs to improve his tackling technique also. I saw him miss 3 tackles today which were all on the inexcusable side of the ledger. Will probably see him dropped is my guess.

So why did they not pay the potential 5 frees in the lead up to the onecthey did?

Do they just pick and choose when they will pay one?

No they pay frees that they think are frees. I thought it wasn't a free. I would have said 60 40 play no so it wasn't a redicoulos call. What is redicoulos is some people bringing up whispers in the sky and thinking the umpires cheat or that we should complain like Adelaide are. How about we worry about the things we can control and what we can control had us level against an unbeaten side with 2 minutes to plat

I don't know what happens there. I'm usually cheering Roo's mark and then all of a sudden it's down to 15 secs and he's just marking his spot 5m in front of the mark.

Geez we handle a loss well on here...

At least we have mostly moved on from bagging our own and are now onto conspiracy theories about the AFL...

I honestly think Jarryn Geary was put on our list by the AFL to break us from the inside while the umpires get us from the outside! Damn AFL!!

Really happy with the fourth quarter performance - something we have been terrible at so far this season.
Playing catch up since the lapse in the last 5-10mins of the first quarter.
Unforced turnovers through poor skill execution still really hurting us.
We're on the right track and someday soon those games will end with a W instead of an L.
