I didn’t like it. Just didn’t feel like a Star Wars movie. felt like if Harry Potter and battle star galactica had a kid, this would be it.

Finns side plot was absolutely useless and added nothing to the movie, literally nothing.

You leave BSG out of this!

I feel this movie isn't being as well received as Force Awakens, at least amongst people here on this forum. Interesting. What could this mean in the bigger picture?

I didn't really like the force awakens (maybe a 6.5/10 if I was being generous), but all the annoying things I didn't like about TFA are basically here again and amplified, and there aren't enough things good about this movie to redeem it. TFA at least had good ENOUGH moments in between the gritting teeth at the horrible humour or stupid coincidences. But it introduced enough to be a solid pass and a safe well made (for the most part) movie. And we compared it to the prequels so it was also seen as a big step up. Rogue One I thought was better, but it had an equal amount of flaws, but felt the most 'star wars' for mine.

I think this is trending worse, and we will be less likely to forgive it. We put up with TFA because it was 'New Star Wars', and it can be forgiven a lot for that as everyone was so excited. Now in Ep8, I liked all of Luke's scene's in this, but the other scenes in general were not at the level of the scene's in TFA, even though both TFA and this suffer from the same Millennial movie making rubbish that has really taken a shine off Star Wars (in comparison to the OT, not to mention the prequels, which I didn't really want to mention).

Ray (and to a lesser extent for me) Kylo were excellent, as was Luke in this film

Poe was probably the only improvement on TFA as a character progression, and he was forced to have some cheesy roll eyes humour at times

The love story arc was a horrible bomb, loud groans were heard throughout the cinema when rose kissed finn and then fell unconscious (not to mention the stupid fact of Finn having to haul her arse what, 2+km across the sand/salt whatever to get her to safety and THEN with little medical attention up and through the mines to the surface, FFS.)

Anyway, its certainly "New Star Wars" - but it doesn't have the benefit of the goodwill TFA might have had at this point.... might as well kill off the remaining OT characters as the franchise is doing them a disservice really.

Need to see it again before I can really make any judgement. I know I didn’t like rose and Finns side story and the casino heist seemed out of place.

I do give the film credit for being different and not predicable, and the whole snoke thing was a tad disappointing, however I feel there are still things to play out.

Going back on Friday.

There's too much negativity in here so instead here's a list of thing that were awesome:

(I'm assuming spoiler tags shouldn't be necessary in this thread anymore)

- focussing on and humanising Rose's sister and her desperate struggle to drop the bombs (and resulting epic 'splosions)
- everything between Luke and Rey on the island
- everything between Kylo and Rey on the island
- Luke reunions with Chewie, R2, Leia and Yoda
- the Snoke twist and resulting fight scene
- the hyperspace suicide ploy (probably my overall highlight, absolutely impeccably filmed)
- Finn's Phasma smackdown
- the Luke confrontation and twist (the imagery was brilliant)
- Rey's rock lifting
- Rey and Poe finally meeting (Rey's smile, yes please)

OK, y'all go back to whinging now ;)
Good Post

Think about how much of the Force that Luke would have drained from the well of life (which creates it and makes it grow) in order to astrally project and manifest what appeared to everyone else to be a physical body.

Then think about the price that needed to be paid in order for him to achieve this. He didn’t die. He realised that his path wasn’t to shut himself off from it, but to embrace it completely and let it consume him. What he told Rey was wrong. The Force never belonged to a true Jedi. A true Jedi belongs to the Force...which is what happened. Now he’ll live forever like Yoda and Obi Wan.

... I must have something in my eye :'(

All original trilogy characters need to be sent to the glue factory

Adding nothing at this stage

Well Hamill and Ford have been killed off, and I hate to break it to you about Fisher but..

But seriously, if you thought Hamill added nothing to that film we were watching vastly different movies.

One thing I've noticed after sleeping on it, I have no interest or questions about what might happen in ep9, the immediate hype and speculation that was created by TFA is completely missing this time around and to fill the 2 year void we get the impending disaster that will be Solo o_O.

TLJ is crap, can't gloss over it or sugar coat.
I liked TFA and the story it set up, sure it was a ANH knock off but the characters, especially Kylo Ren engaged my curiosity and TLJ has washed it all away.

Aside from that Leia scene, i loved it. The movie took some big risks and i can't help but laugh at the endless wasted time by fanboys on their rey's parents, snoke theories.

People bemoan fan service and when a film maker decides to bring a new vision and expand the lore, they're shot down.

Bravo Rian

In regards to too much joking around sentiment, empire had alot of banter, well delivered mind you.

No comments about putting a shirt on during an intense scene, or asking a Captain of a Star Destroyer if you're on hold.

Eh, no. TFA is fan service, R1 (apart from the Vader scene) is a fresh new movie, TLJ just has a lot of bad bits.

Rogue one was drenched in fan service.

TLJ isn't flawless but it took risks in its story telling and for that, i'm truely grateful

Did Luke really teat off an alien seal for a glass of alien mamory juice, or did someone slip something into my Pepsi?
Such a cringe moment and the way he just looked at her while he drunk it. Then he does the cool pole vault thing and I thought he was testing her to see if she could keep up, but no, just fishing.

I absolutely loved it.

The 2 main plotlines of Rey/Luke and The Resistance escape were both really well realised. The character building of Poe, Rey and the unravelling of the Luke mystery were terrific. The force connection between Rey and Kylo Ren was brilliantly realised and drove the plot brilliantly. I was so happy with how they handled Kylo Ren in this film, from hesitating to fire at Leia, to the conflict that led him to kill Snoke, to sticking to his convictions. He's poised as a brilliant villian for Ep9.

The only weak section of the film was the Finn and Rose sidequest, although the horsebeast escape was still pretty entertaining. I feel like that could have been completely cut from the movie, although i'll give it a pass if the Finn/Rose love story and the children recruited to the rebellion are important in Ep9.

The space battle to begin the movie was excellent, arguably the best battle scene in Star Wars. It was great to see Poe at the peak of his powers again and giving Hux shit, it tied in perfectly to his cowboy attitude and arc with Holdo which drove that side of the plot.

There was a lot of good quality lightsaber combat, as well as the Finn/Phasma fight. The fight between Kylo and Rey and the guards was awesome.

I was sad that Luke had to die but it makes perfect sense. I kept hoping during that final battle scene that he'd appear in his old T-65 X-Wing you see underwater earlier in the movie and mow down a few AT-ATs, but the way it played out was much better. Luke completely gave himself to the force, and you'd hope his force ghost has a big role in Ep9.

Drenched you say? You sure you aren't confusing "Contained elements that allow it to mesh perfectly with the film taking place directly after it" and fan service?

E.g. Is Tarkin fan service? Obviously not. Is the Death Star fan service? Obviously not. So not quite sure what you mean.

I think with the benefit of knowing Carrie Fisher would pass away, they'd have completely done away with Laura Dern and had Leia in that role, with Leia the one smashing the cruiser into Snoke's ship for a much greater impact than losing a character we didn't really care about.

Liked it the first time but was very conflicted. Seriously loved it the second time. Let's you ignore all the nit-picking crap and just watch the movie.

Lots of great performances but Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill were fantastic.

Way, way stronger than TFA and R1. But all three have great elements, if we could mix the three directors we could end up with the perfect film.

The prequels are better than 7 and 8. (come at me)

Way more original content.

Woah. I couldn't disagree more. The prequels are predominantly complete unwatchable trash save for a few cool character arcs and lightsaber battles.

More original content =/= a better film.

I was referring to my above point that we should learn from this movie in regards to overthinking aspects of the story.
meh the whole thread is about over thinking. Seems you're like bb8 trying to fix the electrical fault
