What is the significance of the big V?

As I understand it, it simply signifies Victory. They've pretty much had various V style designs for most of their existence https://nafc.com.au/history/brief-history https://footyjumpers.com/North-Adelaide.htm, and I suspect that in 1970 they decided to change to the Big V style out of admiration for Victoria's jumper.

A bit of trivia; there was an unrelated club called Victorian in North Adelaide prior to the formation of the current club, which changed its name to North Adelaide before dying in 1885 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_Football_Club_(SAFA).

Apparently not (I thought the same)

Probably just a coincidence but NA started wearing the Victorian V in 1970 that same year former Richmond (152 g) player Michael Patterson started coaching the team. I like to think it’s a nod to that.

If I were North Adelaide I wouldn't want any connection to the disastrous state of Victoria atm & yes I'm from Melbourne.
