Re: Post your stats questions here

This isn't exactly a question I know but there's a fascinating bit of trivia that shows Carlton currently on 30,000 (all-time) Behinds and Collingwood on 29,000 Goals. Fairly rare sort of occurrence I’d imagine! I haven't noticed this mentioned anywhere which is somewhat surprising.

You're not visiting here

(Collingwood's feat is on the page Here. )

Where this type of entertaining nonsense can nearly always be found.

Enjoy.

I visit there very often (it's one of my favourite sites - no, really) and had a quick look before posting my message, but didn't spot anything on this subject!

What was there: (along with the trivia from their last matches).

"Carlton's last behind scored in this match was their 30,000th. "

"Collingwood's last goal in this match was their 29,000th."

These 'milestones' are checked for each round, so keep your eyes peeled!

Using the search function (top menu) to look for '30,000th' or '29,000th' also would have found the references.

Glad to hear that you do visit the site.

Re: Post your stats questions here

I played this game 10 years ago, didn't catch on :)

I wonder I took the time zones into consideration.. oh well too late to fix now.
That's very good. If I'd been a BigFooty user back in those days, I'd certainly have praised you for making people aware of such an important milestone being reached! I still get excited by such things, and will keep checking the AFL website in the hope this gets the attention it deserves!!

Re: Post your stats questions here

Oh, and back on the free kick stuff, Melbourne conceded 52 in the NAB semi against Essendon earlier this year, it just got funny in the end.

We got 14, for a total of 66. Must be up there.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Just looking through some WAFL stats and scores, and in 1981, West Perth had a highest score of 37.17 (239), which they kicked against East Fremantle. However in Round 21, South Fremantle kicked a record score of 40.18 (258) against West Perth.

That's a 497 point differential between West Perth's highest score for and highest score against in the one season.

Any VFL/AFL teams have large differentials?

Geelong in 1992 might have one of the largest, with a 408-point differential (239 High For, 169 High Against). Of course, their 379 point differential against Adelaide itself in that season may be a record (210 For in Rd 8, 169 against in Rd 23).

Actually, North's 418 point differential in 1983 (193 high for, 220 high against) is even larger than that Geelong one I pointed out.

St Kilda 417 in 1978: 31.18-204 v Melbourne - 33.15-213 conceded v Footscray
Geelong 408 in 1992: 37.17-239 v Brisbane - 24.25-169 conceded v Adelaide.

Cheers Rog.

Fair to say that the 78 Saints are the only team to score and concede 200+ in the one season?

Re: Post your stats questions here

never realised geelong scored 200 points in back to back games. that's a phenomenal stat.

surely the only time it's ever happened in VFL/AFL??

Re: Post your stats questions here

massive.

always found it funny how sydney had those two random seasons in 1986 and 1987 when they were a gun team but ranged between shit and completely shit in the years around them.

is their 51 year wait (45 to 96) to win a finals game the longest streak in VFL/AFL history??

Yes, they are the only team to go in effect two generations without a win in a final.

Re: Post your stats questions here

How many, if any (and who) VFL/AFL players have kicked 100 goals at 3 clubs. Dicky Osbourne got mighty close - 98 goals at the Dogs.

Barry Hall has kicked 92 goals at the Dogs to go along with 144 at St Kilda and 467 at the Sydney Swans.

I am a little worried he might just miss out as well, for if the Dees beat the Dogs this week (as I expect) I can very well see Barry pulling the pin. Perhaps he needs to be made aware of this impending 'record' to prevent a possible early retirement.

None. The four who've achieved 50 at three different clubs are

was hawthorns second quarter the biggest possession differentail we've seen?

No idea. Quarter by quarter stats have only been published intermittently. I'm not aware of any resource containing multiple years of data.

Thanks Ron - I had suspected as much. Off to the Bulldogs board. Interesting that Scott Cummings was closest to this and missed out at Essendon!

Re: Post your stats questions here

I noticed Gary Ablett is a Brownlow Medallist but never received a Rising Star nomination. How many other players who debuted in 1993 and later are also in that boat?

Jason Akermanis only.

Voss played 6 matches in 1992 so would be eligible under the current criteria, but I don't know whether or not he could be nominated for the RS under the conditions back then.

Re: Post your stats questions here

what is the premiership count for each of the leading 30 goalkickers to have played in the VFL/AFL??

Re: Post your stats questions here

Does anyone have a link to constantly updating stats for marks from oppostion kicks for this year?

I want to continuely look at them but if a list of the top players is all that can be produced that's fine.

Appreciated.

Re: Post your stats questions here

cheers rtb.

interesting. me and a mate on the weekend were discussing whether having a dominant forward could actually be a hinderence to the team's success.

i don't think hinderence is the right word, particularly if the forward set up of the team is good, but some teams can become too predictable in the way they go forward which i think is what happened a bit with carlton and fevola.... bear in mind they're midfield was also pretty rubbish in the middle part of this decade....

13 of those 30 have no premerships, and only 11 have multiple flags.... don't think it's really conclusive either way...

also what did modra miss the 97 grand final for?? i never realised that. knew he missed the 98 GF. missed most of the season.
