Brisbane kicked 7.0 (one RB) last year v Hawthorn

Adelaide's was only one shot (one RB)
Other twos
Port v St Kilda RD 5, 2009
Nth v Ade, R12, 2009
Ade v Mel, Rd 3, 2010

Other ones
Gee v Stk, R13, 2010
Freo v Stk, R5, 2009
and the Adel one above

The often unrecognised career of the "rushed behind".

A search of the Argus reveals that the term "rushed behind" was very common prior to a point being awarded for one. The earliest mention found in a quick search was from the match report of Sth Melbourne v Carlton in September 1883 - "A scrimmage took place in the vicinity of the South Melbourne goal, the outcome of which was that the ball was rushed behind."

The phrase "the outcome of which was that the ball was rushed behind" appears as a stock phrase in match reports for the next 10 years or so.

After 1897 the term appears much less frequently suggesting the "rushed behind's" somewhat lowly or orphan status as a score.

am interested in the lowest scores in the competition. but obviously this is massively out of whack due to the low scoring of the VFL in the early days, but i'm not entirely sure on when the scores got to where you kind of see them in the current days but i'm thinking if you went from the 1930's onwards you'd probably get a reasonably balanced list.

so from 1930 what are the lowest 20 scores in VFL/AFL??

i can see on paul's site the lowest score will be fitzroy's 6 v Footscray in 1953 but every other score is from prior to 1930

21 Sydney/SM 2.7-19 (1964)

After this there are 5 scores of 20 points and 6 of 21 points.

Cheers

One more question. Collingwood won by 138 points on the weekend, yet didn't have the highest winning margin for the round. What is the highest winning margin which didn't end up being the highest winning margin for the round?

It is the highest.

Previous: Round 20 1992 - West Coast defeated Brisbane by 131 points.
But Hawthorn defeated Essendon by 160 points.
(Same round Adelaide did Richmond by 110 points)

Has a team ever won the wooden spoon and gone on to win the premiership the following season? Just thinking of west coast this year who are coming off a wooden spoon.

Fitzroy won both in the same season (1916).

Essendon in 1908 made the Grand Final after finishing last in 1907 but lost to Carlton by 9 points.

Fitzroy made the 1917 Grand Final as both the reigning wooden-spooner and reigning premier but lost by 35 points to Collingwood.
(Note: As the wooden-spoon is not and has never been an official League award, some references have Richmond as the 1916 'wooden-spooners' as in the 4 team competition they had the least wins after the 2nd round of matches (finals) were played.)

Collingwood, last in 1976 came the closest by drawing the 1977 Grand Final, but lost the replay v Nth Melbourne by 27 points.

on the main board trying to see if there is any advantage to the bye during the final series.... the team with the bye has a 19-3 record between 2000 and 2010 in the preliminary finals. however this could be expected given it's the highest ranked team that gets the bye, and they are also the home team... but it's still a very strong advantage.

so......

Between 2000 and 2010 what is the record of the highest placed team in matches involving 3rd or 4th v 5th or 6th in the last quarter of the season (only including matches played rounds 16 to 22 so to involve similar teams at the end of the season)

ladder placing at the time of the match.

i.e. you'd include this 2005 round 16 match between sdney and melbourne even though melbourne finished the year in 7th. after round 15 melbourne was 4th and sydney 5th.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/2005/111620050716.html

Edit: Just realised it needs to be between matches played between 1st or 2nd on the ladder against either 3rd or 4th on the ladder coming into their clash.

Not sure if this is the right thread but was wondering if anyone had the player leaderboards for hard ball gets and loose ball gets (separately rather than combined into the CP stat) for this season and previous seasons?

Also what are the highest HBG and LBG per game recorded by players in a season during the 2000-2010s?

1st v 3rd or 4th - 1st won 6 lost 5 (2 of the firsts dropped to 3rd after losing - 2 of the 3rds moved up to 2nd after winning.)

2nd v 3rd or 4th - 2nd won 7 lost 6 (2 of the 2nd's dropped to 4th after losing - 1 2nd dropped to 5th - 2 of the winning 3rd and 4ths moved up to 2nd and 1 up to 1st - 2 of the losing 3rd and 4ths dropped to 5th and 1 to 7th.)

Might demonstrate how the final placings are still in flux in the last 7 rounds more than reinforce the advantage of winning the qualifying finals.

Eventual Premiers 2000-10 played teams placed 1st to 4th in the last 7 rounds for 10 wins and 7 losses.

Eventual Runners-up 2000-10 played teams placed 1st to 4th in the last 7 rounds for 12 wins and 5 losses.

cheers RR, on the basis i reckon there is a big advantage to the bye. there is a massive discrepancy between 19-3 and either of those 4 win loss records.

Here's another one for the gurus.

What are the highest discrepancies between the highest goalkicker of the year and the second-highest?

After h&a rounds:

interesting in 1968 peter hudson and peter mckenna's topped the goal kicking but neither of their teams made their finals.

how often would the leading two goalkicker's after the h&a have neither of their teams playing finals??

What is the home team's record against the Away team since 1897?

What is the Home team's record while leading by 30 or points at Half Time?
What is the Away team's record while leading by 30 or points at Half Time?

hey, sorry if this has already been asked, but i just had it pop into my head after a comment on another forum and thought, no better place to ask and know you will get a good answer than bigfooty.

has there ever, or is it more occurant than i thought, been a first year player/rookie for a club that has won the B&F... im talking abut heppell from us red and black boys.. with watson missing out on a few games this year, i think he is a shoe in just quietly.. been crazy awesome consistant and is just a first year! premium player in the making..

boys? has it happened before?

Given that there were no clearly-defined club lists prior to the AFL era, I can only provide a list of players (and age at last game of season) who won their club's B&F in the same season as their debut VFL/AFL match. Some were obviously mature players recruited from other competitions, and some may have played reserve grade footy in previous years.
