Longest wait to debut for player who forged a career?

Seeing that Toby Thurstans has now retired on 110 games, having been drafted in 1998 and debuted in 2003, begs the following question:

What's the longest time between being added to a club's list (to keep it simple, let's go with the post-draft era) and debut, for a player who went on to record 100 games or more?

Dean Wallis would go close. On Essendon's list every year from 1987 and didn't play his hundredth until 1999.

Kris Barlow was on North's list for a season in 1991 as an 18yo, before debuting for Hawthorn at 25 and playing his hundredth game in 2004.

Re: Longest wait to debut for player who forged a career?

hey, I'd like to know the last time a team lost a qualifying final but went on to win the premiership in the same year. Has this been done before? Who/When and how often? Cheers boys.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Has there every been a possesion differential in a final greater than today's match ? According to AFL Match Centre, St Kilda (439 poss) to Collingwood (274) a differential of 165.

I thought the Adel v Ess game on Friday might have been a challenger, but the diff was only 42.

Re: Post your stats questions here

When was the last time that a losing team received all 6 brownlow votes?

Thanks in advance :)

Unless it happened last year (don't have my complete database with me) it was

R15, 2006 - St.Kilda d Essendon by 3 points

3 - Stanton
2 - J.Johnson
1 - Lovett

Re: Post your stats questions here

In light of the Eels win on the weekend I was wondering when/who was the last AFL time that 8th beat 1st in a final? (Old finals system)
Pretty sure it never happened.

Re: Post your stats questions here

The biggest finals "upset" (as defined by finishing rank) is when 6th placed Carlton d. 1st placed Essendon in a 1999 PF.

Re: Post your stats questions here

How many times if any have all teams been knocked out of the finals in the order they finished on the ladder in the home and away season?

If St Kilda win this weekend that will be 1 i know

Re: Post your stats questions here

Has there every been a possesion differential in a final greater than today's match ? According to AFL Match Centre, St Kilda (439 poss) to Collingwood (274) a differential of 165.
And they then backed it up with a 161 differential last night. It was so striking watching the game, even when it was close, that the Woods couldn't lay their hands on the ball. Even their goals came disproportionately from Geelong errors in disposal/possession.

I would very confidently say that the Collingwood 2009 side holds an all-time finals record for the fewest disposals, relative to opposition disposals, since records have been kept. -165, then -104 in a win, and -161 to finish. A total of -450. That's a high-possession full match worth of possessions that their opponents have on them.

In some ways, it's a compliment that a team that handles the ball so rarely, managed for the first 2.5 games of its 3 game series, to stay generally competitive.

But the sheer weight of the stats is staggering. You don't see those sorts of differentials in games decided by 20 goals or more. For example, the 2007 North Melbourne side, with its 2 finals debacles punctuated with a fairly modest win, were relative powerhouses with their 3 finals recording disposal differentials of -132 +50 -72 for a total of just -154. The differential in the 2007 GF was a mere 67 disposals.

Has anyone else ever managed a finals series remotely like Collingwood's, since this stat has been kept? Has any club ever had a finals series where they've had a positive disposal differential near this level?

Re: Post your stats questions here

just curious....which player has revieved the most votes in their first year? i remember pearce recieved a fair amount a couple years back. and do you think rich will surpass the current leader?

Re: Post your stats questions here

Haydn Bunton got 26 votes, and won, in his first year. Ron Alexander also had 26, but in the 6-votes-per-game era.
Graham Moss (25), and Brad Hardie (22) the only others with 20+
