Re: Post your stats questions here

We're 5 games past half-way in the season and I noticed two things
- there hasn't been a 1 point victory
- there hasn't been a 100 point victory.

I'm guessing 11 rounds into most seasons, there would have been at least one of the above if not both.

So, if anyone has a way to check this, have there been many seasons lately where no team has won a game by 1 or 100+ points?

Nor a draw. Good get.

I'm pretty sure one point is the most common margin in VFL/AFL footy? Will be interesting to see if a season has gone 12 rounds in the past without a draw or a one point result.

Re: Post your stats questions here

1-pointers are the most common margin, 303 times
Not counting this year:
15 seasons have had no 1pt wins. Most recent 1984
38 seasons have had no 100+ wins. Most recent 1973
8 seasons had neither. Most recent 1954

From wikipedia re AFL Draft eligibility:

Currently to be eligible for the draft, a player must be at least 17 years of age on or before 30 April in the year in which they are drafted. This has been slowly increased over the past few years due to concerns about school age players potentially having to leave home to play football in another state. For the 2009 draft the eligibility age has been increased by 4 months so players must be 18 on 31 December in the year in which they are drafted.

Thus, which players have been the youngest debutants since the introduction of the VFL/AFL Draft?

David Wirrapanda was born on 3 August 1979, and made his debut on Round 5, 27 April 1996, West Coast Eagles vs. Carlton, at Princes Park (thanks to Wiki). Hence, he was 16.

Re: Post your stats questions here

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the shortest time has been between a player retiring and their son making their debut?

Ross Smith (1996) and Jesse Smith (2005).

Ablett Snr (retired in 1997, last game was in round one of the reserves vs Richmond) and Ablett Jnr (round four, 2002 vs North at Colonial).

Re: Post your stats questions here

What's the highest guernsey number worn in a senior game? 55 or so?

I'm not counting Harry Taylor wearing #85 for the second half against Melbourne last year.

Greg Stafford wore something like #55 once after the blood rule, I think.

Which players have worn more than one number during a season?

Jeff Farmer wore #8 in 1999, from memory, before reverting backt o the #35 later in the year.

Re: Post your stats questions here

It was in the papers a few weeks ago - a Collingwood player in the mid 60's.

Highest number I've seen in person was Dermott McNicholl at St. Kilda in #60
http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/D/Dermot_McNicholl.html

Melbourne have had a 56 (Paul Earley, 1984), 57 (Greg Sizer, 1985), 58 (Michael Howard - 1984) and 59 (Andrew Dale, 1986) actually line up. Heaps of 54's too (including James McDonald at the start of his career) but never a #55.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Can geurnsey-number stats be sourced anywhere?

What if I want the top 10 games list for players wearing #40?

How about the top 10 goals list for Essendon players wearing #40?

NB: I don't want the answers, I want to know where and how I can find the answers.

This is in the club statistic pages in the footy record each week.

For example, on Geelong's page:
Games records held in guernsey numbers
8 Robert Scott (245 Geelong and North Melbourne)
40 Ian Nankervis (325)
45 Cameron Ling* (189)

The full list by guernsey number would be in the AFL Record Season Guide to 2009 I assume.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Richmond play North Melbourne in Round 16, and thus, two caretaker coaches faceoff.

When was the last time that two caretaker coaches opposed each other?

Re: Post your stats questions here

I love reading this board. Good work to all of those involved. :thumbsu:

My question -

What players have won the Brownlow medal but not featured in the All Australian team or won their team's best and fairest in that year?

e.g - Shane Woewodin didn't make the AA team in 2000.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Just wondering if anyone could tell me what the highest number of 300 game milestones reached in a single decade is?
Surely Adelaide is a chance with 4 this decade with Ben Hart, Mark Ricciuto, Andrew McLeod and Tyson Edwards.

Probably check here and take an educated guess.

Re: Post your stats questions here

whats the deifinition of a tackle, how do champion data decide what is a tackle and what is not?

my thinking would be anytime you tackle someone is when you get the free (holding the ball/throw etc) or their is a ball up or throw in after the tackle.

if the player gets a kick or handball, it is not a tackle. if the player gets a free kick (in the back/high etc) its not a tackle

I've assumed none of those were day games.

The round 6 2008 match Coll v Ess was the Anzac Day match - played in daylight.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me the last time Melbourne won two in a row over the same two rounds that Geelong LOST two in a row.
Cheers

Re: Post your stats questions here

We have to go way, way back - to 2006 :p Geelong lost in Rounds 4 & 5, Melbourne squeaking home by 5 and 4 pts at the same time.
