I read some time ago that people were not happy with CUB making Stella & Conona in their Australian plants now they have the Australian rights - rather than imporiting the genuine article?

I manage a small liquor store specialisting in Imports & through cross importing we get both these lines (along with many others) direct from their international home. You can tell not only by the taste - but the packaging.

Any interest just drop me an email - alstey@optushome.com.au

Cheers.

Are you the place in St Albans that imports it ?

I noticed a little white sticker on the side of the bottle and it said it was imported by this place... unfortunately can't remember the name.

Surely it would be misleading advetising by having imported shown on the top of the bottle ?

Stella is brewed under licence buy CUB which is correct. And trust me since that happend it tastes like ********e.

Corona, i still beleive is being imported. Well the slab i have in my room is imported and i bought it from liqourland :)

I work at a CUB Brewery so consider me an Authoritah!!!!!

Stella Artois is only brewed (under licence) by CUB in it's draught form. That is kegs. All bottled Stella Artois is imported from Belguim and generally tastes like crud.

As for Corona, it is all 100% imported.

Considering the thread starter runs a store specialising in Imported beers....

No probs. I cant stand the bottled Stella(imported) but dont mind the draught Stella(brewed in Abbotsford), but I guess that has alot to do with the tastes Ive grown up with. i.e. the draught Stella is made using Australian malt, hops and water, while obviously the imported stuff uses belguim grain and water.

I guess my tastes are just more suited(developed) to Australian ingredients.

According to this article

http://www.fosters.com.au/mediacentre/4D7772050C384A6B93D01D79638F8B80.htm

"CUB has held the contract to oversee the Stella Artois brand since 1997", and the agreement was renewed in 2002 for a further 10 years.

It doesnt specifically state when CUB began actual brewing of Stella, but Id hazard a guess and say from around 97ish. I dont think 'Interbrew'(The brewer who 'owns' Stella) will be changing that agreement in the near future, as the beer's popularity has increased greatly since CUB took over Aus managment of the brew, and it continues to grow strongly.

Im not into work again till Tues but if I remember, I'll ask my boss if they know exactly when Stella Draught started to be brewed in Aus.

I love the bottled Stella, but have noticed a difference in taste when it's off tap at places like Transport etc which is a good establishment for drinking Stella at.

I'm surprised why more pubs have it on tap, what determines what sort of beer pubs have on tap ?

Yeh cheers for that, maybe they changed the recipe or sumthin i dunno, but have noticed a change in taste

Simply the ingredients would be from different regions. Would be Victorian malting barley, Victorian water, sugar from Sugar Australia or Bundaberg Sugar, and Hops from Vic and Tassie. But I imagine teh yeast would be from the same strain as they use in Belguim.

Also the brewing techniques and 'tools' wouldnt be the same as the Belguim rubbish.

Deals they've got with different breweries, promotions etc etc..

CUB/Fosters are actually going to re-market Fosters here and the leading weapon is a totally new and uniquley designed tap. It pours the beer almost flat, and then you add the head on seperatly from a different button on the tap. You give it a head about an inch and a half big, and while it looks a little funny, it tastes superb as the head is alot creamier and the bigger head means it lasts for the entire glass.

We've got one of these new taps at work (1st in Aus to have one) and I have to say it is the best tasting beer we have on tap by far, purely for this tap design.

Fosters is also the 6th most distributed beer throughout the world IIRC, so while we dont drink it here, it's right up there with the world's biggest beers... All purely from marketing.

I mean without the marketing, would anyone actually drink VB?
