Matty Cottrell as a rookie (I think ??) was a good get for SOS.
Owies and Cottrell rookies. The old SOS never picks players with late picks theory goes out the window.

Agree with most, but you surely can’t bold Dow as a Pick 3 hit based on his career output.
Surely I can. He's a slow burn with his best footy ahead of him. He's been killing it all season, we didn't figure out he could play AFL until forced to play him. He's been a major driving force in crucial wins over top sides such as Collingwood, St Kilda and Melbourne. Watch him kill it this week again.

Say what you want about Plow in his current form but he is definitely a bold/✅ for SOS.

Did a lot of heavy lifting in the backline whilst we were getting belted. Now won’t be around to reap the rewards. Was underrated due to his whipping boy status.

For pick 28, and as part of the deal that landed us McKay, you’d do it all over again.
Been a honest competitor in a weak side but Miles away from games in a top 8 team. Fortunate we have had a weak side desperate for third tall defenders. Good recruit for where we were. AFL quality at the lower end.

In those days, the administration chickened out on the long term vision.

With weak destabilisers like Mathieson on the board and backstabbing, corporate ladder climber Ceos like Liddle, good people like Sos and maybe Bolton and Teague never got the "ironclad will in a velvet glove" support someone like Cook has given Voss.

No one can know what might have been but it seems like the tough lessons have finally been learned.

On the contrary, I think Teague and the snake Liddle were two peas in a pod. Liddle fought for Teague to stay as coach. Thank god he didn't succeed. Also liddle went behind SOS back with trades and signed Zac Williams on silly coin with a ridiculous contract length. All because he thought it was as simple as signing the next free agent out of GWS to progress the list.

I know Liddle inviting Tom Papley to tour the facilities at IKON Park without consulting Silvagni certainly put SOS's nose out of joint (understandably so)

Bolton was fantastic in changing our culture (no more major player scandals since he coached our club) and is a genuinely good guy, but unfortunately his win-loss record and constant thumpings in his final season as coach meant that he had to be let go (although I still feel sad about it) and Teague as much as a good person and clubman he is/was, should really never have been appointed full time coach, it's not his fault but the previous board/administration's fault for not doing due diligence on the coaching interviewing and appointing process.

Definitely. Wrong place wrong time for those coaches, that team could not have won games under any circumstances. No coach should be appointed on the back of a handfull of games after filling in. The new coach effect is a real thing and teams always overperform the first month or two under a new coach.

For what it's worth SOS was the right person at the time and I think Austin has been the right person at the time as well. Both have done what needed to be done and done it well.

The next coach who followed on from the disaster that was Malthouse and the utter list and culture destruction he left at the club was always going to be on a hiding to nothing/the fall guy for another painful rebuild.

I honestly wish we could bring back Bolts as an assistant coach or someone in our footy department, he is a quality guy who did care deeply for the footy club and esp our players.

I reckon Kemp is the most unheralded SOS pick up. He is the next Doc.

Was expected to go top 3 draft year before his knee reco. Kid could play from the outset. One of the 'injury hit high end talent' trades that will pay off in spades. With a pretty quick payoff time frame. A lot of those trades SOS was a fan of, probably haven't had the output payoff that was expected. Glad this one looks to have significantly though.

Jeez well the Saad debate has well and truly been settled!
To be honest, I'm surprised it was ever a debate.
Was always going to make the back 6 stronger and was a reasonable price IMO. Maybe slightly overs. but you do what you've gotta do to get him into the club.

Eh, the cost was * drafting Zach Reid, who has played 8 senior games in three years. Looking down that draft, I can’t see a player that I would like over Adam Saad. The cost barely put a dent in our future in terms of youth.

Agree. And that's taking into account he's gone much much better than I ever thought he would.
From what I can work out, Essendon used pick 8 (which became #10 after a couple of matched bids) on Zach Reid (who has played 8 games in 3 years), and pick 48 that we got back from Ess, was turned into either Durdin or Carroll after we on-traded it.

What's the odds of SOS making bids on the Campo boys next year.

He probably will. And then Dodo will make bids. They just love ****ing with each other.
