Why is he continually regarded as a great bowler by English fans?

He, not going by figures, is terrible with line and length, occasionally hits the spot and goes for runs when he is off, which is often.

Although he does get good bounce, who here actually rates him?

England need Hoggard Flintoff and Panesar to be on fire or else they are gone.

Has been gratitiously overrated because of a couple of decent spells. A fit Jones is far more important to the English lineup than Harmlesson.

He's a pie chucker, sooner people sees that the better. He has the odd great spell but that comes too rarely. He's been **** with the new ball for England for over a year

It doesn't matter if you're 6ft7 and bowls at a decent pace (He's even lost a yard of pace of late), if you struggle to land it on the pitch most the time you ain't gonna be any good

Have always rated Simon Jones a lot higher even when the two were young quicks being touted as potential England Test quicks.

terribly overrated, just look at his first class statistics, never really dominated at home for his county, possibly another repeat of his last visit to Australia in the up coming ashes

Like Vaughan, a lot of unfulfilled potential.
Don't base your opinion on his ODI stats though. All English players excluding KP and Collingwood are crap in ODI's.

I watched the highlights of the 2004 ICC champions trophy on Sky a few weeks ago. Harmison bowled some lovely stuff with the ball against Sri Lanka. Sadly he only seems to do that once or twice a season.

If he doesn't pull his socks up then he could be out of the ODI side with his test place under threat as well.

Harmison can be a fantastic bowler, no bowler that is ****, gets the to number 1 spot in the world, no matter what anyone says. Unfortunately he is very inconsistent. He suffers from home sickness and can be troubled sometimes when he is away. When he is on song, he is as good and dangerous as anyone in the world, unfortunately lately that has been few and far between. I wouldnt go on the ODI performance as something to look at in terms of line and length because he IS NOT a one day bowler. He is troubled in the one days becuase he is forced to try and attack a lot of the time and a lot of the time he sprays it. He is still a key part of the 4 English bowlers, because he adds another dynamic to Hoggard, Flintoff and Jones. Hopefully he will have some of his on days down under against the Aussies.

but if i remember correctly he only got to number one, when he took 7/15 against the windies... and even then i wasnt for that long...

hes a average to decent bowler at best. when hes on his game he can kill any team but never gets that way.

Well you havent remembered correctly because it was months after he took 7/12 that he went number 1. Not for that long? He was the Number 1 test bowler in the world (A bloody hard thing to acheive) for 4 months. Plus it 4 more months than Brett Lee will ever get at number 1 or anywhere near it

I think he will be the singly biggest threat to Australia this coming series. Although the likes of JOnes, Hoggard and Flintoff damaged us with swing on their doctored pitches with their tampered balls Harmison is mor elike an Australian bowler. He relies on bounce, line and length to produce wickets and this will suit the fast, bouncy Aussi pitches. Mark my words he will be the most effective English quick.

Harmison relies on idiots. He bowls all over the shop and bad batsmen get out playing bad shots. You just have to wait with Harmy, just keep waiting, and when he delivers that bad ball, punish him.
