It would have been a beautiful thing to experience all three in the same team at their peak.

Ponting at 3, Tendulkar at 4 and Lara 5 = orgasmic.

Thought i would bring this back because I have had a look at his batting over the last month and he is very loose defensively- he never bowls and i am confused about what he adds to the team.

He's there on 'potential'

apparently some players are worth being carried...why I don't know, but it would be nice if we had some one who could tell the difference between a bat and a chicken...

The selectors have cost punter so much this series by not picking the best in the land.

Wasted pick in the second test, an injured clarke and a recovering bollinger.

Throw in the uselessness of hughes and smith.

Add the lack of form from punter and clarke.

And a pinch of dropped catches from Haddin.

Somehow its the bowlers fault that the batting is lame...

Sooner paine or Wade come in the better.

Like Hughes he was selected for "other" reasons not related to form or ability. He is selcted as a specialist batsmen yet his record at Shield level clearly shows he is not in the top 6 batsmen in the country.

I think Steve Smith's a year or two of shield cricket off test cricket (and said that pre-series) but he's hardly a terrible selection. Batted very well last year, hasnt scored as many this year but averaging mid-20's with the ball. Shouldnt be at number six though, at least not at this point, and thus probably shouldnt be playing at all.

Bowled well today though, not much turn (probably the pitch) but very promising drift.

I don't know if I'm going crazy, but seeing a 21 year old bowl those leggies like he just did makes me pretty excited for his future.

Gets turn and got some very good dip.

The problem will be how he's going to develop in the shambles of the setup that is Australian cricket at the moment. He should either be given an extended stint in the Australian side or two straight years in the Shield. Don't drag him around on tours at 12th man, don't make him play useless ODIs or T20s.

He's definitely not quite "cooked" with either bat or ball in hand, but he has been picked on talent. I don't think he should have been, I would have preferred Khawaja, Cosgrove, White, Ferguson maybe, but now that he has been he has to be persisted with. He bowled well towards the end of the day at least.

Exactly he's blonde he bowls legspin.

problem is right now he's a test match number 8 and a 6th bowler in a team that is crying out for quality specialists.

if there really is a nsw bias i wish they would pick the ones in top form, how smith and hughes can get a run in the top 6 but no place can be found for usman khawaja is beyond me.

Smith is very good. Problem at the moment is he is coming in at 4 for not many all the time. If he could bat like a number 6 should at 4 for 250 or so we would see a different player. Genuine all rounders take time to develop and struggle to get that developemnt in a weak team. At the moment we are not weak, we are p poor.

Today we heard the truth. We have 4 quicks because they are worried Johnson will bowl like sh*t. They burnt Hughes in England for Johnson and doing the same again. He bowls well every 5th game. Get rid of him and Ponting and we might move forward

Id suggest he is a highly skilled athlete and that's it, he isn't a cricketers arseh*le.

Peter Siddle and Hilfy show better batting technique then this guy for crying out loud, he is simply lucky that he has some decent reflexes.

ROFL all the Sydneysiders are saying 'please carry smith' he'll come good eventually...
and
'no really he has talent'.

some of them were the same howling for hodge's blood, telling us d.hussey has 'technical flaws' (technical flaws mind that he has seem him average 55.5 in his career), cosgrove is too fat, (nice jowels on smith), m. hussey is too old and finished etc etc.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

as for hughes, what an embarrassment this clown got another couple of test caps...he doesn't look good enough for shield cricket, and looking at his shield form, probably wouldn't get a game ahead of watson, katich and maddinson. Another 1 season wonder getting a test cap on the back of a handful of games and no form.

Deary me, isn't a cricketers arseh*le, what an outrageously stupid statement. A 21 year old struggles at the beginning of his Test career with zero senior support, gee what a surprise.

who from? hughes? clarke? haddin?

watto has done more than his share this series and hussey has covered the gaps for the first 3 tests.

I've heard whingeing from Vics for the last 20 years about this so called 'NSW-bias'........it's getting tired. Funny thing is, Australia have been the dominant country in the world for about 80% of that time.

Selectors took a risk on a young guy by the name of SK Warne many years ago.......that didn't work out too bad.

Having a crack at a 21 year old is masking the serious problems in this side. Once again our bowlers couldn't extract a thing from the same pitch that the Poms looked unplayable on, and guess how many of our bowlers are from NSW?????? That same young kid you're hanging shit on. Siddle hasn't looked like taking a wicket since his hattrick, but shhh, he's from Victoria so he's alright. Mitch has played his one good test for three years, so no danger from him. Let's get stuck into the NSW players - there's only 15 in the side so they're bound to fail. I'm sure you would have been one of those guys after Haddin's blood before this ashes series too.

Forget the Ashes, forget trying to be competitive, time for us to look to the future, as this side is clearly not up to it. Let's play the kids - get Khawaja in (sorry he's from NSW, but unfortunately he can play), get James Pattinson in, get Mitch Marsh in and let's build toward the future.

Time for our 'senior' players to lift their game, or finish their careers in Shield.

Ponting's not from NSW........better not list him. For a captain, he hasn't even looked like playing a captain's knock.

Listing Haddin shows you are a delirious fool - he's done more than enough this series with the bat, and has been only one of three batsmen capable of holding their head high. He's no Wade.........but he's okay.

Post was quite good until that.

Haddin has been good with the bat.

I've listed our batting line up as...

1. Watto
2. M. Hussey
3. Haddin
Tail.

he shouldn't have to be, he's there for his keeping, which he hasn't been.

as for his batting, look at how he bats, when clarke and huss have been there, he bats well, as soon as he's on his own, he throws it away, he SHOULD be mature enough to guide the tail, he isn't.

neither is clarke.

The only one guiding the tail and extracting runs has been hussey or one innings MJ.

I'd rather have paine, who holds his catches...

Didn't see Haddin's innings in Brisbane I assume??? Yeah he batted with Huss (which I think is irrelevant), but went against his natural instincts to dig right in, to save our innings along with Huss. Very mature innings that. Wouldn't be calling Hadds a downhill skiier after this series.

One thing is for sure, we'll find out alot about this Australian batting line up when we are chasing 500 just to see the Poms bat again.

Smith is a work in progress. Both his batting and bowling technique need a lot of work. His batting, in particular, is very questionable - not quite as bad as Hughes, but very reliant on eye over defence. Ugly, splay stance defence just begging to be bowled through the gate.
