Disappointing main event. It was like 2 guys fighting on TUF. When the scores were being called out I honestly had no idea who was going to win. That was the same Werdum that fought Dos Santos. It was seriously some of the worst conditioning we've seen by 2 guys who are supposed to be top 10 heavyweights. Suddenly my desire to see Overeem in the UFC isn't that strong. Both guys would be killed by Velasquez, Dos Santos, Carwin and Lesnar. Jesus throw in Mir, Schaub and Big Country for the lulz. The referee was also shit and should've penalized Werdum for wasting time. He repeatedly ran the clock down by taking 5-10 seconds to stand up after the referee told him to get off his arse.

Barnett fought as expected.

Masvidal was the story of the night for me and it's a shame the shitty main event will overshadow his performance. His striking was fantastic and he was able to pick off Noons with excellent timing. His takedowns were good, as was his control on the ground. I think Masvidal would be a worthy opponent for Melendez.

Just saw this comment on Sherdog which made me laugh:

Overeem is still Gasareem and Werdum what the fuck did he get AIDS between the Fedor fight and this one?

Awful fight and an atrocious strategy from Werdum. I thought he landed the better shots on the feet throughout the fight but continually dropping to your back is always going to make it look like you don't belong in there. Overeem lost in winning though. He was sucking it in badly after the fight and still displayed some of the same flaws that plagued him as a LHW. His shell defense that was so difficult to penetrate in K-1 fights doesn't work nearly as well in MMA due to the smaller gloves and use of clinches. The Bigfoot fight will be much more interesting though as Silva won't fight like Werdum did, plus he'll be larger than the Reem too so he probably won't get bullied around.

Barnett might have just become the favourite to win the tournament, he should choke Kharitonov out next round pretty easily. Dana actually predicted him to win back in February before the first round.

Masvidal looked really good and the fight was the only highlight on the card, I don't see him being competitive against Melendez though.

Joe Rogan's thoughts on twitter.
Masvidal really impressed me tonight. Him and Gilbert Melendez is going to be an awesome scrap

I've never seen a world class fighter that winded in his post fight interview. Overeem's 40lbs of woop ass comes at a cardio price

Not a very impressive performance for Werdum or Overeem. The winner of this fight was Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos

Been flat out with work so couldn't comment but agree with all here. Horrible fight. Almost as bad as CroCop/Mir, probably about Nelson/Mir level of bad. At first I thought both were just too afraid to engage each in others strengths but if you are supposed to be top 10 HW's get in there and give yourself a shot at winning rather than putting on shit like that. Tend to agree that Overeem's K1 striking might need some adjusting if he's going get it working in MMA. And where were the kicks? If you were worried about getting taken down by Werdum because of kicks, then he's never going to kick anyone who's actually decent at takedowns, so he's left with his punches (which aren't that good).

Overeem is good on paper, but still has so much to prove in his new form. Any 'proven' top 10 heavyeight should be favourite against this guy, especially if they can survive round 1. My guess is Bigfoot is going to roll him if he puts in a performance like that again.

Bigfoot vs Barnett would be a fitting finale, but Barnett's going to have to take out Sergei, which I'm guessing he will. I did like Barnett's takeover of the Mic. Any less time Gus Johnson is on screen, the better. Plus it reminded me of the Pride days where the fighters occasionally took the floor. It was a good performance by Barnett too.

And the Strikeforce commentary was annoying too, Gus Johnson is horrible and without Pat to shut him up, Mauro just dribbles.

Not sure if anyone caught the HDNet prelims, but Mike and Bas were so so much more enjoyable to listen to than the Showtime dweebs, even if Schiavello does wind himself up a little too much, a little too often.

Speaking of prelims, Conner Huen vs Almeida was fight of the night for me, an awesome scrap complete with Sakuraba style mongolian chops!

Masvidal also, very impressed but Noons was overated anyway IMO (I know this because I got sucked in enough to tip him).

not as bad as it sounds, Overeem was lackluster in his last fight. After his poor showing I predicted a Silva vs Barnett GF so him being out is a moot point for me.

On the other hand Cormier looked pretty decent vs Monson, I personally would have preferred Griggs as replacement however.

Read this, very shit. Even though Overeems last fight was pretty much garbage, the thought of him fighting Bigfoot and Barnett or Kharitanov was probably the only real thing going for it after Fedor got rolled.

Lame, but Zuffa don't take BS so thats they way it is now (even though Dana said it was going to be business as usual!). Overeem said he needed more time to heal but Zuffa wanted him to sign to a date and that's that...

Dissapointing, but there has been so many injuries/replacements, drop outs, reshuffles, etc in the MMA world lately, I am getting used to it

Yeah, it's hard to get excited about the upcoming 136 and 137 cards when half of the fights won't even happen.

I think one of the big reasons for the increase in drop outs is because fighters now have health insurance for their training camps. In the past, particularly in the US where the health system is insanely expensive, they'd just deal with the pain, take the fight, get paid and then claim their injuries happened during the fight so they could get their medical fees paid.

Dana has always said the Reem isn't top 10, I don't think it worries him if he's in or not. I think that if he faces a contender with a decent double-leg, he'd lose on points or get submitted anyway. Hell of a kickboxer, but legit HW contender he is not..

Yeah it's really shit but like you say you get used to it. It makes me think that there's a big opportunity for the fighter that is very durable. If Tito can somehow pull out a win against Rashad he might fight for a title, something you would have thought would be impossible, ****en ridiculous actually 1 month ago.

In fact it pushes the case for allowing fighters to take PEDs, i know it's a ridiculous notion but imagine they were able to recover a lot quicker than they currently do? PEDs would be the best way to do it and we'd have way more good matchups and less drop outs. Hmm good luck convincing the ACs of that!

Seems like Golden Glory tried to play hardball with Zuffa. They released Coenen, Othereem and Einemo overnight, every fighter being managed by Golden Glory except Kharitonov has been cut, and you can pretty much guarantee that he'll be given his papers too with a loss to Barnett next month.
