“I have played for three seasons now and haven’t won a whole heap so I definitely want success,” he said.
“I definitely think the club is on the right path and I need to play my part in achieving that.
“I think everyone sees and feels the improvement but consistency throughout the year is what will take us to the next level.
“Our best footy is good. We almost beat the (Western) Bulldogs late last year and they were flying so I think the confidence is there.
“We are young so being mentally refreshed and being able to prepare and play well for 23 games - that will be whether we make it or not.”
“We will be looking to use my kick as much as we can but I might roll deep at times and Kingy will be up the ground,” Lukosius said.
“Hopefully I can take a defender with me and leave him one out because one-out not many can go with him.
“I’m sure there will be plenty of ways it works throughout the year but it is exciting to be working with him.”

It's all fair enough but if we make finals he better recommit.

"it's been three seasons with no success" screams entitlement. Sad cos I love watching him play
Imagine how north or carlton fans feel. Carlton has had no success in decades lol Essendon? He probably wasn't born the last time they won a final.

3 years is nothing

Not many top 3 picks walk into a successful team - I hope he recognises that.
It's up to those gun young players to make it a successful team.

I have no idea if Luko stays or goes but I think people are jumping the gun. Nothing wrong with the quote below and other quotes in the article. Boswell put a bit spin on top of it. Yes, he wants success as he should. Every player wants to win. He also said he needs to play his part.

He actually says that nothing will happen in the next couple weeks (so maybe there is chance in 3 weeks :p ) and that the club and his manager will sort it out as the year goes on.

Key for me is King. If one or even two from the rest don't re-sign, I can live with that. We will have to lose some players eventually. Look at the list to re-sign: King, Luko, Rankine, Ainsworth, Weller, Davies, Budarick, Hollands, Moyle; next year Anderson, Rowell, Flanders, Sharp, Andrew.

Of course, if we don't start winning players will consider other options more seriously. Let's say we win a wooden spoon, what would you do in King/Luko shoes with a new coach coming in?

BTW, Luko lives with Rowell and King. Both seemed committed.

And it's gonna become the GWS model.

You won't be able to keep all the young stars. Just impossible from a financial pov. It'll be a matter of choosing who you keep.

If we reduce our list size to the same as everyone else, would this generate a few more $ to be spread around...it appears that list sizes are between 42-44 players and we have 48, who all need to be paid.

I don't know what the minimum wage is these days, but if its 100K, then we could free up 400K by going back to 44 players.....surely we don't need 48 players anymore.......COVID withstanding..

depends on the player, where they were drafted or how much they were recruited for.

Like.. I know one player.. not on the suns list.. -- I need to try not to imcriminate myself; but a player was drafted in last years 2021 draft in a pick in the 40's... they get 80k plus match payments.
Now any pick higher than that, gets more. Then you take into players recruited from other clubs, or players you may be already paying overs for.

The salary cap is the same at every club? So seems like you're paying more for a stack of players, then not so much for others? Especially those on the rookie list. Believe 80k is outside the cap.

Going back to 44 players, sure you'd be saving but depends on the extra 4 players. If they are on the lower end/fringe or rookies you'd save a little... But the money still has to be spent one way or another.

The extended rookie list -- was there a set time frame this was only gonna be allowed for? Or was it indefinite?

Your extra players are rookie listed players, and as such, are paid outside the salary cap (or at least the value of a standard rookie contract is paid outside the salary cap, if they are on a higher contract), with their rookie salary included under the soft cap.

I'm tipping luko to extend to get himself to free agency. If he becomes the gun chf we think he could be then the offers will be massive as a free agent.

That’s a reasonable assumption. Just about all of our young guns have stayed for a couple of contracts before pissing off. Remember we’ve also never had a South Australian return there (why would you when you are living in the best place in Oz?). Hopefully we can get enough wins and show enough signs (eg stop the blowout losses) to convince him to stay.

Yeah, as mentioned base rookie salaries (85K in 2022) are excluded from TPP. I would expect game bonuses are included in TPP.

This is spot on. Sam Walsh seems to be the type that wants to be THE reason Carlton get their shit together.

Lukosius talking about wanting to see success before he recommits (after such a brutal 3 years  ) smacks of an entitled nature. Touk has already set the benchmark. If Lukosius signs up alongside King and Rankine, and Rowell and Anderson next year, success is theirs for the taking.
