My guess would be we will offer Flanders a contract not as lucrative as other clubs. Whether he stays or not who knows, he doesn't seem like he wants out though.

Is Flanders with kapital sports? There is a new episode of gettable and I browsed (to get ginni talk) by a manager mentioned GC, talking Flanders? I’ll have to watch the whole thing later

Just listening to. I don't think so. Walter, Rogers, Read, Caleb Graham so far. Some Collingwood boys :)

The events of the past few days had all but convinced me that our season was over but then I saw this in the West Australian.
SUNS' RUN HOME:

* Saints (sixth) @ Heritage

* Giants (10th) @ Giants

* Brisbane Lions (third) @ Heritage

* Crows (ninth) @ Adelaide Oval

* Swans (15th) @ SCG

* Blues (11th) @ Heritage

* Kangaroos (17th) @ Blundstone
On paper, when you consider the Saints are heavily depleted by injuries right now, that actually looks like a reasonably kind run to end the season. All our remaining opponents besides the Lions are placed 9th or lower on the ladder. Just say for argument's sake that we do get the coach bounce some are predicting and we beat the Saints and Giants over the next fortnight, then we're potentially looking at a situation where 3 wins in our final 5 could be enough.

Obviously that seems like a long shot right now but I do wonder what people will be saying next week or even the week after if we string a win or two together and play an exciting brand of footy in those games. Bob East and Mark Evans both said yesterday that they believe our season is still alive and the truth is they are right. A lot will need to go right from here but it's not an impossible task. I want to see how we go against the Saints before I really start to buy into the possibility but looking at the draw in the West Australian has given me the little jolt I needed to get excited about the game this weekend. If we win on Saturday then I will return to this thought process and start to assess the draws of other teams around us to get a better understanding of what's needed.

Don't like Barrett but hard to argue with him here.

Crazy Barrett was arguing last 2-3 years for Dew to be fired. Now when he was he is arguing he was unfairly treated? Half of board are actually recent appointments, and more changes are coming.

What were the club officials supposed to say (as Malcom Blight said)? Something like honest "Yes, we will fire Dew in a couple of weeks, just finalizing it and waiting for Bob to come back from holiday"?

Every club supports the coach until he's fired. Dew got a time to prove that he can take the club to a next level and unfortunately it did not happen this year with healthy list for whatever reason.

I suspect if Bob East was in the country Dew would be fired immediately after Magpies game.

As a side note I was amazed listening to coach Parkin on Whateley show. If I understood correctly, he was hired on Mon and fired on Thu when a new coach became available. Suns have a long way to match that.

They were surprised when Cochrane resigned
They shouldn't have been
East and a couple of other Board members were horrified by the Club's direction and Cochrane hitching himself to Dew's wagon
This was a bloodless coup by Board members who actually care about the Club
Cochrane was tapped and he walked because he wasn't going to ever sack Dew and he wasn't going to push the Rainbow coterie community action group off the Board
But you know Damo
Never change
Hating us obviously gives your tiny genitals a tingle you sad cuck

Personally I think that’s a load of shit. No one ever said / thought / felt Dew was Barassi reincarnated or that we were headed for 3 flags, just that we backed him and believed he was the man to lead us to finals / success. Isn’t this what all clubs do? It’s only been in recent weeks that it is now become evident he was not. And what club has ever handled the sacking of their coach well? Dew would’ve had KPIs in place that were clearly trending in the wrong direction over the last month at a critical stage of our development, hence a decision had to be made - the only question was when and IMO they got it just about right. EOY would’ve been too late.
That Collingwood loss was the first time I really felt that Dew wasn’t the man to take us to finals. Witnessing that live was deflating. If we had kept Dew on and continued with poor or even mediocre performances, Barrett would be the first to continue taking potshots at us. He loves to hate us.
Barrett has probably been sitting on such an article for ages, just waiting to put it into print and jerk off all over his computer screen. He has consistently lambasted us for failing to move up the ladder and when we make a tough decision in order to improve, he sticks the boots in. What a f**kwit. We’re an easy target and he’s a coward.

If sacking our coach because we are failing to improve makes us a mess of a club, he’s got no idea. It’s what all clubs do.

You didn't feel it after his contract was extended last year.
Just go back over the performances after his contact was extended in 2022.
Beat the bottom 2 teams including an appalling 'win' at home against WC by 4 points and a very lucky win against Richmond at home and that's it. Lost to Hawthorne. 50 point loss to Essendon. 60 point loss to Geelong at home.
It was a massive fools gold extension and these Clowns will still claim it was correct. IMO it's was a massive error.

I wasn’t overly concerned about that extension although 2 years was very generous. I thought injuries contributed last year and we still improved in the W/L. This year there weren’t any excuses and we’ve clearly stalled / regressed with other clubs going past us.

I said at the start of the year that AFL and most pro-Sport is an arms race
Every club is trying to bolster its arsenal and improve weaponry
Thinking you're just going to leapfrog over the others because ummmm...Rowell Anderson Miller and a half fit King and Weller is fairy bread thinking
Half of our nuclear capability walked to Adelaide and that's entirely on Dew because his selling point was player relationships and retention
You can't just pick the eyes out of the pre-season stew
I didn't see where we could improve above 10 teams
I wanted to believe but nup
Really the only players to go up a level this year have been Rowell Anderson Lukosius and probably Ballard +/- Powelly
That's not enough in this comp
What we needed was the entire media gasping about Flanders Rosas Hollands Davies Chol Andrews
But what we have is a 34 yo journeyman in Levi getting accolades
So yeah I'm not buying "Development Coach" either

Some big claims from Gill there, do people think they are accurate?

You think he's lying?

Not lying, but he might be using some creativity on the participation front. For example what's counted and what isn't? From your experience do you think footy has more participants than NRL (ie. Contact and touch)?

Pretty sure more juniors play AFL than Rugby on the GC
They do. I meet more and more people in to footy these days too who aren't expats from afl states. The GC expansion, on field aside is a massive success.
