People also are looking at 'list age' the wrong way.

8th on list age sure but vast majority of those players in the older bracket were

Ellis (31)
Atkins (30)
Sexton (31)
Casboult (34)
Day (32)
Tsitas (29)
Farrar (28)

and all of them played in the VFL almost the entire year.

If you compare our first choice team we're still bottom 3 in the league.

Compare our average age vs these 'rebuilding' teams when we played them.

24.0 months vs North Melbourne 24.3 months
24.1 months vs Hawthorn 24.0 months
24.11 months vs West Cost 25.9 months
24.10 months vs Richmond 26.4 months
24.4 months vs St Kilda 26.2 months

we were younger each time. We have a lot of genuinely young players still running through our side that with development should make us very formidable hopefully starting from next season.
Continuing to get games into Graham, Rogers, Reid, Walters, Moyle, Uwland, Andrew, Humphrey etc is very important but it does drop out floor somewhat. hell even Rowell and Anderson are only 23.

Age Opening round 2025 potentially best 22. 7 players 21 years old or younger. Several spots open.

Powell 25 Collins 30 Ballard 25
Andrew 21 Rioli 28 Noble 28
Clohesy 22 Rowell 23 Weller 29
Witts 32 Anderson 24 Miller 29
Ainsworth 27 Walter 19 Humphrey 20
Rogers 20 King 24 Long 27
Uwland 21 Flanders 23 Graham 19 Lombard 18 Davies 23

Depth
Jeffrey 23 Johnston 20 Read 19 Moyle 23 Budarick 23

Touk had a good season, but was a bit below his high standards.

Ballard is more of a surprise being in the top 10

Collins won the David Swallow. Players player award. Any other current players in the AFL have an award named after him?

Not much separating 2nd-4th.

The old one must of had 5-4-3-2-1 from all coaches. We were getting leaderboards in the 400s
2024 Voting Process: Players are assessed on their performance by Gold Coast’s match committee, with all players receiving a rating from 0-5 for each game they play. The match committee make a joint decision on each player, meaning the maximum votes a player can receive in any match is five.

That’s a wild system.

Fair though. Ranking every player would be a harsh and honest review system. It also means a player is no longer “unlucky” to miss out on points because they were the “fourth best” player or something.

Every player could score a 5, or they could all get a 0 too.

So really, Collins only averaged like a 3 (68 points divided by 23 games, rounded up) which doesn’t seem so good when I put it like that…
