the only problem with that is he will be tagged every week but might be a good upgrade if he has proven he can handle a tag

Totally agree with this.

Plenty of his big scores last year came when he was going forward and kicking goals to accompany his 20+ possy's. A permanent Midfield role will see a permanent tagger to and restrict forward time and with his price and age he is a risk in my books. He may do well again but i have my doubts and he is no way a SC steal.

If he was 300k then yes but at 576k he would want to score over 100 every week.

4) Malceski has admitted that he'd forgotten to work hard enough after coming back so quickly from the surgery. He looks to have completely turned everything around. If he gets good number in the NAB games, jump on quick as he'll deliver between 95-110 each week.

Holy Moly, macaroli......95-110 each week:eek:

Awesome

Bit of inside money on Sydney:

1) Roos always plays his new recruits from other clubs over draft picks and doesn't drop them after a string of bad games. He believes, above all else, that he needs to show faith in their ability beyond all other aspects. Only two recruits, that I can remember, haven't made it in the past decade (Spriggs and Chambers).

2) Sydney has a beyond extraordinary record of these guys finishing high up in the B&F in their first year. Schwass, Williams, Ball, Schauble, Hall, Shaw, Bolton, Mattner, Jolly. So really look for Mumford, McGlynn, Seaby and Kennedy playing all games this year and thriving away from the pressure of southern states. Mumford will be our No.1 ruck from all reports.

3) Sumner, along with Dennis-Lane has been marked out by several staff as the most likely to debut first. Really surprising everyone.

4) Malceski has admitted that he'd forgotten to work hard enough after coming back so quickly from the surgery. He looks to have completely turned everything around. If he gets good number in the NAB games, jump on quick as he'll deliver between 95-110 each week.

5) ROK played the first half of last year deeper up forward with very low stats to cover for the injured MOL. Then moved into the midfield and won the B&F. This will be his first full year in the midfield and he looks rejuvenated by the move. He's going to deliver BIG numbers this year.

6) I don't have a lot of faith in Bradshaw staying fit and that means opportunities for Playfair. At 107K, he could be gold. Roos likes him and gave him 18 months to get his body right to get back on the list. Always presents and has good hands. Should get between 50-110 points out of him for each game he plays.

Of course the other only problem is one you've already mentioned!

No Hall, MOL...No Bradshaw early...He (and Goodes) will both be forced to play forward early (and probably often)...

...Playfair! :D

To relate this post to another thread...

...Malceski has less chance of av'ing 100+ this year than Sylvia has of winning the Brownlow. :p

ROK won't be a forward this year. He'll be in the guts.
Playfair's a punt, no doubt about it, but a good one. Huge upside, low risk downside.
Malceski going to be remarkably improved this year. If he gets back to 2007's form - expect those numbers.

ROK...meh, don't agree, but I guess NAB will tell us something...

...Malceski...over-rated in 2007 even (when he av'd 100.9)...just 1 x 100+ game in the last 12, av'd 83 in his last 8 games that year...and Swans have since added Mattner and Shaw...and he has since lost a knee ligament.

BOL with that. ;)

whats your opinion on rhyce shaw alibimonday?

and also as good a cashcow as playfair he is on the rookie list though :( any word on him being promoted

From an Essendon perspective Mark Mcveigh is a lock to rise quite abit from 320k, training the house down atm should be able average close to what he did in '07 and '08 which was in the 90's.

There is a big question mark over his durability though and he is suspended for round 1.

Bachar Houli is the other, get on if he demonstrates stong form in the nab cup. Has gotten pretty strong scores despite limited appearance at senior level. Has alot of talent and improvement to come, I'd expect 80+ from him.

I understand it means that a player's value will increase - but with a salary cap in place how is that of any benefit? If you sell a player do you receive their current value?

They way I see it, there's two different types of cash cows:

1) Bench rookies (94k-170k). These players are at rock bottom prices and are almost guaranteed to rise in price if they play games. These players are picked to make money and fill in for injured starters. When these players get to around the 7-10 game mark and have risen to a much higher price, trade them down for a new 94k player making their debut and pocket the cash (if a player has risen to 394k and you trade him for a 94k, you pocket 300k). It's important to pick the right players here to maximize the amount of money you'll make. You don't want to have someone on your bench who isn't playing games (I'm looking at you Liam Anthony) when you could have someone who is playing and can make you money for upgrades.

2) Mid-pricers (200k-350k), who are usually players returning from injury or players that have missed a season, who will rise in value enough to be traded to a premium. These players usually average in the 70's-80's and rise moderately in price. These players also have the potential to become keepers if you start to run short on trades (Hurn, Gilbert last year). Upgrade these players to premiums from the money you earn downgrading your bench rookies.

Hope that helps. :)

Had a break out year last year - I can't see him improve much on that so he'll be a tad overvalued at the moment. His pre-season has been interrupted too so I'd personally stay away until later in the year.

Not so sure Alibi.... Brennan, Tingay just off the top of my head without researching too much.

Tingay was a token trade and completely broken by the time he arrived. Brennan was delisted also (same with Spriggs). If you count trades that were at least had some level of currency, only Chambers to my knowledge has been given a really good chance and failed. There maybe more, haven't bother to do the research myself, but it doesn't escape the fact that Sydney have turned this list of borderline 22 players from other clubs:

Bolton
Ball
Shaw
Hall (people forget he was going nowhere)
Jolly
Mattner
Richards

...into very solid contributors VERY QUICKLY. I don't think another club has come close to this level of turnaround.

Speaking of hall is anyone considering him?

There's a post over on the fanfooty forum from Toodledock that got me thinking, saying that when he's in a top 4 team, he averages over 100. Indeed the year the Swannies won the flag big bad bazza averaged a spectacular 131.8 SC points, playing all 22 games. The next year he was down a fair bit, to 117.7, also from 22 games.

Granted there are a couple of issues, namely he's 5 years older & slower, & then there's the 800 pound gorilla of his "brain snaps"......

For $366,000 is he worth the risk? This game is all about finding the underpriced players, & maybe back in a team going places with less frustrating delivery & with the spur of going out of the game as a champion full forward rather than a thug, Bazza can turn it on this year?

(for what it's worth, he's not in my team right now, but i WILL be watching him in the NAB cup) ;)
lol checking the teams IF he plays in the 2nd round of the NAB:D

Yeah, I'll be watching closely, probably won't select him before rnd 1 but will watch closely. I have a feeling him and Rodney will get/have got his, er..psychological issues, under control.

i think he has to be worth a shot at the $366,000 price tag...
A rookie in their first year can average 68 which is what barry hall is at.
6 months away from the game and by all reports feels rejuvenated, even if he doesn't get back to his lofty heights of 5 years ago, will surely average around the 80-85 points per game, should make you a 100K.
There is the less risky option of Rob Murphy for 13K less than Hall.
But life's all about 2nd and 3rd chances. He's had his fair share and realises he is in a strong team, that is in its premiership window. You won't see any brain fades, forget suspension. Injury will be the only concern. But he's always been fairly durable. Could be a bargain IMO.

If Shannon Byrnes starts the same way he did last season, i would say he is a steal. Missed rounds 1 and 2, but from rounds 3 to 13 produced scores of 93, 97, 98, 102, 107, 124, 126 and 145.

With Stokes out till at least round 8, has the potential to score big as he will see plenty of game time.

Thoughts..?

Yeah, I don't know much about him but that^ prompted me to do some research. He averaged 9 kicks, 10 handballs, 1.5 goals, 3 tackles and 4 i/50s per game. How likely is he to play 22? Does he get many contested? Pre-season? Calling all Geelong fans...

Edit: add to that, averages >5 marks and doesn't seem to give away frees... could be ok.

:thumbsu:

More of a DTer (imho)...

...but yeah, better still if you look closely at his scores, he seemed to have bad games when Steve Johnson wasn't playing. ;)

good points but the fact kennelly is back and fit and also malceski i thought might make him better and score more points

What do you guys think bout Fothies McVeigh, Bound to be better than last year, over injures, pretty cheap(mid 300s from memory) and if he could regain his 07,08 form could be one of the picks for the comp. What are your thoughts?

He's a loose cannon, as bad as Hall IMO, just doesnt have the guns to back him up.

Yes he could produce 07/08 form, but would he still be a kepper?

Too risky and likely to go off the rails again IMO

Did a search of the thread and was a bit suprised Jay Nash wasn't mentioned?
at around 220K could average around 75pts going on his 2008 season were he played 21 games. only 24 years old.
If he gets a spot in the 22 could be a handy cow.

Will wait and see on Nash.....was 3rd highest stats getter in 08.....if going to play 22 games will take him over malceski and save 50 k in the process
