With the changes that each club may make this week, got me to thinking what genuine surprise changes have clubs made over the years to the grand final team. The main ones I can think of is Dean Wallis in '93 and (to an extent) Steven King last year.

I'm sure there are many others, anyone remember who?

angry anderson, halftime show, 199?

1991.

Only Grand Final played at Waverley, as the MCG was being renovated (Great Southern Stand from memory).

Hawks walloped the Eagles that afternoon. :)

Brian Taylor was a notable exclusion from Richmond's 1982 GF side. After kicking 71 goals in 15 games, Taylor was selected in the 18 and ran onto the ground with the team before the game, but was left out in view of the damp conditions.

After not managing a senior game in the h&a season, Daryl Freame scored a SF berth in 1980 when Richmond had a number of players missing through injury. Though considered unlikely to retain his place for the GF, he snared a spot on the bench and came onto the ground with a few minutes remaining. He was the player who passed the ball to Kevin Bartlett for his famous seventh goal, in which he turned Stan Magro inside out near the boundary. Freame only played two more VFL games.

Kasey Green for West Coast in '05 was out of nowhere, had only played two games that season. And was his last for West Coast. Played quite well too!

Geoff Miles for Geelong in the 1992 GF perhaps?............he didn't get any stats I know that.

0 possessions. :p

Neville Bruns was the one that came in for Bews (injured). Which was a strange/wrong selection.
