Autopsy Swans beat Dockers by 3 points

I sat next to a few Freo supporters who commented multiple times a lot of our guys looked hobbled/laboring/unfit/lazy (they couldn't figure out which but those were their various guesses.) I couldn't really unsee it after that. Swans players taking literally a year to get from defence down to the forward line, and vice versa. A lot of standing around in the outfield, straddling the line between holding their width and just plain coasting without wanting to be involved (though when it was time for them to get involved, they seemed to be giving their all - cracking in, defending desperately, being physical.)

As well as all the other issues that have been well-discussed but that I only got to see for myself in the flesh yesterday, I was reminded of just how far off our best I think we are. Yet we were 3 goals off the Hawks, a goal off the Lions, and arguably should've won by a few goals today. That's with all the injuries, too.

All things considered to be 1-2 whilst looking fiercely competitive in a scoreboard sense isn't a bad position to be in. Not great, but honestly... I'll take it.

I didn't quite see the clearance success that others saw. I actually thought part of the reason we struggled to maintain any sort of momentum was because every time we'd kick a goal, it'd go back to the middle and Freo would win it and take it down their end. But it was a good battle in the stoppages.

Of the so-called whipping boys like Hayward, Florent, Grundy & Papley, I think only the latter really did himself any favours going forward. Still not even close to where we need Papley to be, but much improved, and he had a crack. I actually don't care if a player is average whilst playing with an injury, as long as they do the best they can.

A lot of players had good-to-great games - Warner, Jordon, Rowy, Bice, Ladhams, McLean, Campbell, Wicks, Hamling, Roberts, Amartey, Warner Jr. and Lloyd. If you had said we'd be having any win with those names (Warner, Rowy & Lloyd aside) at any point this year, let alone one on the road in Perth, I would've probably fallen off my chair laughing. But I think it speaks to the overwhelming positive part of this somewhat underwhelming first month of the season - the depth we've been forced to build. Could pay dividends later in the season.

Go Swans.
Wilbur is averaging 7.7 disposals, 2.2 tackles. Way down. A small holiday in the reserves is in order.

Coaches Votes:

9 Josh Treacy (FRE)
6 James Jordon (SYD)
6 Chad Warner (SYD)
5 Jaeger O'Meara (FRE)
3 Tom Papley (SYD)
1 James Rowbottom (SYD)
Whatever the coaches were smoking when they gave Papley votes must be some strong stuff.

He was better, but coming from a low bar. Still selective when he gave a crap about chasing and tackling.

Going to say none, but maybe Logan/Mills they are the closest. Both Harry and Gulden are no chance.

Oh forgot Melican he'll be fit so there's one.
By the North game this is the list;

Adams 1-2 weeks
Andrew To Be Advised after seeing Surgeon
Francis Available
Kirk Available
Gulden Seeing Surgeon in 4 weeks to determine return date
Mills 1-2 weeks
Harry 1-2 weeks
Datoli To be advised. He is running already, so that is a good sign
McDonald Already on the track. Will do contested work and will be available after the Bye and will probably play reserves
Snell Ready to play and will play in the next VFL Hit out.
Bowman Ready to go was a test last weekend. Will play the next hitout in the VFL

The VFL team also have the Bye. Which is not necessarily a great thing if you are trying to get players back.

I so agree and am sick and tired of this. Ryan had leather poisoning. Mind you where is Willy?

Hayward has been utterly putrid all season long

He's dropped a mark inside 50 every game so far.

There's not nothing to work with there but he's one of the first to go out.
Yeah, he's dropped a number of chest marks and is only laying 2 tackles per game so I'm not seeing this great pressure that others are alluding to personally.

With more time in the system, those mistakes will lessen, but he still needs to be able to have more of an impact.

I'd continue backing him in while our injury list is as long as it is, but I'm yet to see anything that suggest he has a real future at the level.

Needless to say, I hope he proves me dead wrong after the bye.

This is also clearly unpopular but I don't really have a problem with the not 15 call at the death in isolation. It clearly wasn't 15 and the umpire made the correct call in that instance. I was out at dinner watching on mute and I thought it would get called.

I DO have a problem with the lack of consistency with which that's adjudicated but I don't think that's exclusive to us, though we do seem to cop it worse than other clubs.

We should have won by 9 , Warner high at our end after the clearance after amartey goal was a shocking miss.

Interesting Ladhams rucking by getting over the line to wrestle like Grundy ,guess it's our strategy

For sure but he has done well to play a few games this year, that's a win already

Like almost all new players, we got a bit of shiny new toy syndrome & sung his praises after 1 or 2 games, then reality hits & it takes a while to figure out if they really “have what it takes”.

Hanily was quiet yesterday & might find himself back in the 2’s if Cleary comes in.

But there’s definitely something to work with.

The only positive is if he kicked for goal like he should he has a 3 goal game.

But we just have these highly rated guys not doing enough.

Hanily as a rookie can go missing, Hayward just shouldn't be invisible as often as he is, ditto Florent, Papley etc . One good game a month isn't enough.

The thing is also Cleary isn't a proven player he will be up and down too

If Melican, Hamling, Mccartin and Rampe all fit who plays ? I don't think Hamling should go out.

I still prefer Mccartin back, but that's me .

Hamling would go out. Harsh because he played very well, but the others all have the runs on the board.

I think Cox will use Tommy Mac at both ends of the ground, depending on what he sees the need of the week is.

I think if Melican is fit next game he comes in for Ladhams and maybe Mccartin is forward.

I think we can play Mccartin, Melican and Hamling as tall with Rampe a 4th option , Wicks, Bice, Roberts and free Lizard right up. Just a thought.

I think Hamling should stay in

Sir Dane goes out.

And he is my favourite player.

He plays if one of the other three are out or McCartin is needed forward.

I hate the spin that we somehow stole a win at the last minute. It didn't feel like that at all. It actually felt like we were the team on top for most of the day and that Freo were the ones who were just holding on, because even though they had the lead, we kept having opportunity after opportunity to take the lead and then pull away. We just kept wasting our chances. If they gave us enough we were bound to take our chance eventually, and they did, and we did, and we won.

Sir Dane out?!?!

Can mods ban themselves?
Believe me, I will be hating myself for saying so.

But fair is fair. Right now I feel like Rampe is our most suspect defender in terms of contesting 1v1s.

And we also have to accept that there is gonna come a time when Rampe won't be there. I think we should prepare for that scenario, while Rampe's actually still around as back-up who can come in at any time, rather than throw all the others off the deep end after Rampe retires.
