We moved here just after but people here speak very fondly of the 2010 Olympics. Sounds like it was a good time and it allowed the city and Whistler to build a lot of infrastructure. I believe we're bidding for 2030.

Can't see Australia hosting the Olympics again. Doubt the AOC could even get necessary government support for a bid they were a chance of winning. Politicians would rip into it and general public know too much about what really goes into the IOC sandwich (or however the saying goes). People would be loud about their disapproval. Time leading up to 2000 was lightning in a bottle.

The best thing about it was that the scare stories about traffic congestion etc forced all the people who were whining about it to leave the city. It was so easy to get around and everyone in town wanted to be there.

Sounds like the same thing happened to the Gold Coast for the commonwealth games.

I have spoken to a few people who lived there during it and apparently local businesses were promised and told to expect more customers ect but a lot of the locals went away during the event and a lot of businesses ended up losing a lot of money because of it.
