Plastered over a couple papers today that Sydney have offered Seaby a 1 mill deal over 3 years . Seaby set to nominate Sydney as his preferred club. With such a idiotic contract on the table one would think they are trying to nab him in the PSD. A couple of other Vic clubs, most notably Hawthorn (now Bailey looks done for next year atleast) are also showing slight interest so hopefully for Eagles a trade is done.

While Roos might want a freebie I trust Seaby will do the right thing by the Eagles and ensure some form of trade is done

I don't know why Sydney would want a washed up ruckmen like Seabs. Don't they already have one of the best in Jolly, with youngsters like White coming through??

1 million over 3 years is 333k a year.

The salary cap is something like 6.4 million (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Sydney has more than that.

6.4 million divided by 38 senior listed players is about 168k. Keeping in mind that rookie contracts are 50k for first rounders and less for 2nd and 3rd rounders.

333k for a player is probably only a slight overpayment, depending on how many players on rookie contracts a club has.

Having said that, Seaby probably isn't the guy to given that slight overpayment to but Sydney are historically clever with trades.

In a cunning twist the journo for this article has quoted Paul Roos interest but given nothing but speculation for the money concerned. Seaby is 200 to 225K a year player and he knows it. He's trying to prolong his days in the AFL not put them at risk.

I think his price has been overstated.

Cant say i particularly want him though.

He may just be worth half that.

How's Warnock going?

Anyway, that's an utterly ridiculous move by the Swans. White > Seaby, and wasn't Currie meant to debut this year and only didn't because of injury? Thanks for keeping him away from us though :thumbsu:

Spot on

West Coast is likely to demand at least a second-round draft pick in return for Seaby, or an attractive combination package Spangher, Staker or Nicoski for an appealing first-round choice.

Geez we like to rape deals dont we?

They can demand all they like, but the reality is Seaby is out of contract and if they are unrealistic, clubs who want him will demand he goes to the PSD.

The writer of that article also clearly follows the BF trading principle of adding multiple bad players together to get something good.

Yep, trades are definitely one place where the collective sum doesn't equal the whole. List space is vital. When clubs like the Eagles, who have missed the finals 2 years straight, are struggling to make enough delistings you have to wonder how the stronger clubs ae going.

I would of thought a ready made mature ruckman is needed at Sydney to help stop the rot. Its obvious White is a bonafied FF and Jolly is what 28/29?? there are one-two gangly kids coming through that might be good in a few years but there isnt anyone in that 25yr old bracket...

The price stated in that article is inflammatory and rediculous even if Roos was trying to get him in the PSD he would cough up that much money for him. Seaby's a good ruckman and the trade will likely be a 3rd rounder for him at best (for us).

I thoroughly endorse whatever deal is set up and accepted by whichever club unfortunate enough to think that Seaby is a good ruckman to the extent that it keeps him away from the Hawthorn Football Club. I'd rather take a punt on the inexperienced and undersized (for a ruckman) Tim Walsh off our rookie list in 2010 to fill in for the injured Bailey than Seaby.

Seaby is quite possibly the worse backup afl ruckman and wouldnt be worth trading for imo. If Sydney were stupid enough to give up a pick it would it be a waste because they could get him in the psd for nothing (no one else would even look at him). The guy must be ageing too.

Brisbane have no concessions.

Welcome to like 4 years ago;)

And we get a cost of living allowance, which needs to be spent across the entire list based on a formula as to how many years the player has been with the club.

So it has nothing to do with us being able to trade for players and pay.

Losing 6 premiership players and 1,500 games of expeirence gives you the giant wad of cash to spend for the right deal.

You are kidding yourself. He would be in the top 5 in terms of back up ruckman.

besides how you could put him below that hack Bradley is unbelieveable

Yeah you're right, that marauding pretender Nick Not-a-cluey is much better.

1. Worst backup ruckman in the league? you mean the 100+ game 65 goal grand final (05) and premiership (06) ruckman.

2. If you call 25 ageing...

3. I doubt Seaby will go for free, he is of great character and would like to see the club compensated as a first option. Only under great duress during negotiations would he walk in the PSD and even if he did he would still be thanked for his services with us.

4. It has been reported that quite a few clubs would be interested, now if Roos says that he is keen to speak to Seaby im going to take his opinion of recycled players over yours every day of the week....
