Since 2004, Sydney, Geelong and Hawthorn has been the dominant teams with the premiers from 2005 onwards coming from one of these teams in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011-15 and 2022 that is 10 premiersships in the last 19 years. I expect the 2024 premier to come from one of these teams and these 3 teams to be in the preliminary final.

That is 7 out of the last 9 even numbered premiership years. I expect the grand final loser to come from one of these teams, so I assume at least one of them will have to make a preliminary final.

Four of those were won by either Hawks, Cats or Swans (08, 12, 14 & 22) which kinda negates your point.

Assuming Hawthorn don’t beat Bulldogs on Friday. 2025 will be 10 years since they last won a final.
Only Essendon, North and GC are worse. Pretty embarrassing group to be in.
