Nice article about Malcho here:

Hard to believe he was dropped mid-season. At the time (when he was dropped), I did not think that he was in our best 22, he really turned his form around once he got that chance, it was quite an amazing turnaround and full credit to him. Even if you took out those 2 unbelievable goals, he played very well in the grand final. Just a fantastic effort.
He's lost enough chances through injury alone. I doubt he'd even contemplate not giving 120% in getting/retaining a spot. A football career doesn't last forever and if anyone's aware of that it's someone like 'Eski. His bravery in going for LARS and his commitment as soon as he hit the track again (so quickly after) was honestly astounding. He pushed past the mental barriers better than almost anyone I've seen come back from such a bad injury. First time I saw him back after the last one he was sprinting and side stepping like he'd just come back from a minor hammy or something. Kinda like he went, "i've been through this before and know what to expect and know how best to overcome it all". To his credit, he certainly proved many doubters wrong and deserved his place in the GF without a doubt.

I'm sure those who were watching the NAB Cup coverage over the weekend would have seen it but FOX are broadcasting a special where they (I saw Dwayne Russell and Paul Roos) interview the coach and about 8 players whilst watching footage of the grand final. I CANNOT MISS THIS. o_O

Is there a way to watch online? I am overseas. If anyone can upload this asap I would truly appreciate it.

Do you remember/know who the players will be? I'm guessing the two captains, the Norm Smith medallist, I remember seeing Kizza and Hanners and JPK?

The little promo I saw had Johnson, Goodes, Jack, McVeigh in it but there were ctainly others. Guys like Malceski, Pyke, Ted and ROK would be featured surely.

I think the way it works is that Longmire stays for the whole game and then a few players rotate in and out. That's what I understood from the promo.

FINALLY admin has recognized our Premiership with every Swans fan on this Board getting a Cup beside the "Sydney" in the info box under your username:D

All hail Chief

Which goes against the popular demand on Big Footy to have an asterisk under our usernames.

Watched the grand final again last night. It was a great couple of hours, but what really annoys me about the TV coverage were those stupid crosses to Darling Harbour in the final quarter. The crowd was so lame there. A couple of excited people. A couple of people in Skoda GWS jackets. And the rest of the people just sitting there, presumably trying to work out the rules of the game. Why couldn't they have focussed on the players, the crowd at the ground ... anyone with a goddam pulse. /rant.

TV Networks have always cut to "fans" watching at LIVE locations in the clubs home city/training base/spiritual home/players home town for at least as long as I remember. It always looks great when the reaction is shown on replay and there is a good crowd watch who support the team. It just did work LIVE to people who either had no idea, thus couldn't care or too busy watching. Hence why its normally on replay because the director can decide if it worth putting in. Clearly a kneejerk decision was made.

I get where you're coming from but I think it's a bit unfair to kind of "look down" at these fans/spectators because they're not as passionate as other fans. They could be future fans that might support the club for 50 years, they may not, but you have to admire that they went down to Darling Harbour and watched the game. One of my mates is a diehard supporter who couldn't afford to fly down and he watched it at the casino. I don't think it suggests that he's any less of a supporter because he didn't attend the GF in the flesh. Obviously there will be people in that crowd that don't care for the game or don't even know the rules, but I'm sure that there are also some spectators at the MCG watching the game live who are just as uncaring about the game as well. I'd consider myself a pretty passionate supporter but I don't know all the rules of the game.

We're not putting down those people per se, but rather the fact that the director of the broadcast decided to cut to those relatively mundane scenes when the rest of the bloody MCG was going apeshit.

Fair enough but I must have just focused on the "learning the rules" section and thought it sounded a little elitist.
Take your point. But let's not forget that Darling Harbour is tourist trap. A significant proportion of that crowd hadn't gone there for the footy. Many wouldn't have seen a game before. They would surely just have been caught up in it passing by. This isn't Federation Square, you know.

But let's get back to the broadcast - what's significant here is what the networks choose to put to air.

If you watch that last ten minutes of the final quarter, they cut to Darling Harbour from memory three times. The mood there is tepid at best. So one minute you're watching Goodesy punching his chest after a crucial goal. Then you've got MCG fans jumping over each other and throwing their arms around complete strangers. Then all of a sudden we're watching the polite applause of a sparsely packed Darling Harbour. That's not what I want to see. It's the climax of the AFL grand final, for crying out loud. Show me people who are as excited as I am.

Oh yeah, I get that. It definitely jars with the rest of the broadcast.

When they release a new DVD or something, they should edit out the Darling Harbour crowd. I'm certain they have alternative footage of the crowds reaction buried somewhere.

You know, they always seem to do this with swans Grand Finals. They cut to some weird location where people aren't that excited. Remember in 2005 where they kept cutting to Tadgh Kennelly's family in Ireland? No doubt trying to make the AFL seem more 'international.' In fact, I'm astonished they didn't try the same thing with Mike Pyke's family in Canada this time around!

Not as bad as constantly cutting to Longmire and Clarkson. Missed the celebrations immediately after Malceski kicked the sealer because of it.
