Sydney Swans, biggest club in Australia

Wow you truly are Kwality.

Doesn't explain a number of other oddities nor the breakdown of how many polled in each state etc. but hey lets not let that stand in the way of your obvious genious.

A one question survey who would have thought.

I was not recommending the procedure simply understanding the result. Called putting your head into gear NOT thumb up bum, mind in neutral.

The smear is in full swing.
Cheapest insecure response whenever someone doesn't like something they see.

Yes Yes Tiggies. We hear you. You want to feel like a roooly rooooly big club. You feel a tad threatened and need to puff up a bit.

Why is it always the tiggies ?

Since Richmond won the GF this board has been flooded with insecure Richmond supporters desperate to tell everyone they are the biggest and best club in Australia, some of them are even deluded enough to claim that Jack Riewoldt is now better than Nick Riewoldt.

Attributing the source, one of those nuances?
In simple terms, the way in which a question is asked doesn’t necessarily give the answer or insight a client is after. What does the Roy Morgan poll tell us? What question was asked to deliver the insight? Is there enough information from the question(s) asked to be confident the insight is true?

Recruitment is also key. Was the sample size a random sample based on general population.

It also seems to be a single question in a broad omnibus study that would be similar to - What AFL team do you support (with 19 options, including None). While it’s technically correct, the level of involvement some of these respondents have in the game would be minimal. For example to the same NRL example I would have responded Melbourne but couldn’t tell you who they played on the weekend nor who is in the grand final.

To get a more accurate response, you would want to filter the respondents to have some affiliation with the sport (ie have watched a game over a period of time, either on tv or gone to a match). Without filtering, responses get skewed by population which is what we are seeing here. This is what we see in market research in FMCG - ask the questions to those who have shopped or are likely to shop the category in a period of time. Those that don’t, exclude, as they just skew the results.

The sample size is robust to extrapolate across the population, but the methodology and recruitment for an omnibus has major drawbacks when making a judgement from a single closed question.

I wasnt looking for the obvious question, I was more interested in all the questions and how many people surveyed in each state, even the areas of each state as this is relevant particularly in Victoria.

Called the difference between knowing the Moon is in the sky and wanting to land men on it.

The result told me it was a nonsense & if I had needed to think about it, I would have concluded it was click bait, its hardly rocket science.

Well put :thumbsu: , you were the target market & came in hook, line & sinker. Not a worry/problem, lets move on. ;)

So not the study in question: https://www.bandt.com.au/marketing/study-swans-afls-popular-team-bad-news-suns

I prefer revenue excluding pokies where applicable, but Roy Morgan have got the floor, not me, not you.

I Completely agree that pokies revenue should be excluded.

The thread title is Sydney the "biggest club" in the land, not Sydney the most "supported club" in the land.

I would think that the majority of that massive supporter base are quite lethargic in their support, as those numbers do not reflect the membership or revenue proportional to the number of supporters. With over a million supporters and Sydney only have 60K members ( thouhg in saying that Sydney does not have the G which allows alot more members to attend games than what the SCG can accommodate.

Well he is a better premiership player, I think its fair to say.

Nick has been firmly on the Tigers side this year, picked us as flag favourites early on and stuck with us.

Both are Champions in their own right, Nick still has the edge but Jack has the medals.
