I think there'll be another HP TouchPad fire sale in the US.[/url]
I could use the same argument for android. If it does everything you want it to do, better than the competition can/does; then who careS?

thrive comes with an full sized SD card slot for up to 32gb expansion when/if you need it. it might even be and SDXC slot for even more expansion.

But it doesn't. It limits you to mp4 files. It has no java. Unless you jailbreak you are limited to what ever is on the app store.
I can play mkv, avi, wmv etc on my non-jailbroken iPhone 3GS.
Then your a smart man I tried for ages.
To the more technical minded it just doesn't cut the cake.

I can too... It wasn't hard.
And you can get Apps to play flash websites (although I hate flash websites, so it doesn't bother me too much).
And more technical minded people can jailbreak if they want.
I'm not sure if that makes me one of those people or not
There is a reason that Apple is dominated the tablet market; and it's not because they're pretty.
My mate was told by quite a few stores that the HP Touchpads had been exhausted in Australia and no more were being shipped. If anyone's interested in a HP TouchPad

It's entirely because they're "cool." I think it's very hard to disagree with the fact that the majority of people that purchase an iPad purchase it because their mate has one and they don't want to bother looking at alternatives. It's marketed brilliantly, and Apple are geniuses at it. Kudos to themIt's partly because they're simple.
It's partly becaue they're cool.
It's partly becaues they are a closed environment, which is more of a positive for most people.
Harvey Norman will not be getting any more touchpads. Keep an eye out for accessories that may be arriving at stores, but thats the best you'll get unfortunatelyMy mate was told by quite a few stores that the HP Touchpads had been exhausted in Australia and no more were being shipped.
This article suggest they may still be able to squeeze out a few more...

I don't mean to be rude, but If you learnt what they could do a bit more effectively (ie, play different file formats on them), maybe you'd be better placed to tell us what they can and can't do?
Why use them for torrent downloads? I do that on my laptop/desktop or I log into my NAS and load it from there. Not hard...
Battery playing up under warranty? Apple's warranty program is excellent (and even when they're out of warranty - break your IPhone? ~$250 for a replacement one, regardless of what you've done to it); and if it's out of warranty, get it repaired by a third party.
Apple does have a 'cult' feel about it, but, the reality is, their products are generally market leaders for good reasons.

I don't get how a closed environment is good.
Use your laptop - stay on the couch.
Log into your NAS via a web browser?
Wireless transfers in the next iOS.
Yes, can put any music you like on there - what is it with you people who are clueless bagging things for simple 'failings,' - which actually aren't?
Yea, I hate them because I was told too, not because they're a pain in the arse.
Because most people either don't know what they're doing, or don't care.
I've been using computers since the early 90s (Amstrad 286), I've built/upgraded shitloads of them and 'fixed' a ton of them for family and friends. The things that used to appeal to me about computers (ie, I could upgrade the video card whenever a new game came out) have no become a pain in the arse. I don't want that crap, I don't want to have to worry about anti-virus or malware, I want something that just does what it's supposed to do, without screwing around.
I manage our IT Systems at work (not my primary role); around 20 computers; the amount of time I spend on stupid problems as a result of people not knowing what they're doing (or, worse, those that know enough to cause real problems) is crazy.
We're currently in the process of developing Apps for IPads and deploying them to staff; I don't need to worry about file structures or formats or people deleting things or installing things or doing shit they aren't supposed to.
I've got no doubt that the Xoom or the Transformer or the new Sony Tablets are good pieces of kit, just sick of morans whose reasons for hating the IPad boil down to 'because they're popular.'
