Just curious to get the thoughts who people think might be the contenders this year, and possible leading goalkicker and Morrish Medal predictions (if you are really game).

Gippsland
Dandenong
Geelong
Sandringham
Calder
Oakleigh
Bendigo
Western
Eastern
North Ballarat

I was very impressed with Northern Knights bottom aged players in 2006. So i will nominate them as my early pick for 2007.

Everyone still has decent hopes for Calder?

4 pretty decent injuries today I hear. And the last 2 game they have been comprehensively been beaten.

Do they just have a good 22 and no depth?
Worrying signs for them I would've though, think they've now lost to Gippsland, Western and Northern in practice matches.

And despite the fact they had some players out yesterday, I'm sure on each occassion their rivals have also had quality players missing.

Northern Knights
Oakleigh Chargers
Geelong Falcons
Gippsland Power
North Ballarat
Western Jets
Calder Cannons
Dandenong Stingrays

Bendigo Pioneers
Sandringham Dragons
Eastern Rangers
Murray Bushrangers

y do ppl think murray will be so good???
They have a dozen returning players who played nine or more games last year so there is plenty of experience there.

Six returning players played U18 championships footy last year.

Theres a handful of bottom agers who had Vic Country U16s experience last year or played senior GV footy that should be able to step in no worries.

They have two players over 200cm and one at 199cm. The two boys over 200cm weight close to 100kg - that could be an advantage over opposition sides who might have to use 190cm ruckmen or talls who weigh 80kg.

Morrish - One of the rovers. Luke Morgan, James Blaser, Adrian Totino? Matt Suckling, Trent Cotchin and Matt Austin would be my choices for the coaches' award.

Goalkicking - Jay Koehler, Tim Bongetti, Jacob Graham... so hard to pick with no one actually staying at FF. At least those 3 have ruckmen in their team and so won't have to ruck. Probably be a small like Maric - happens most years.

This might be right, but I would have thought Maric would need to spend the entire year in the midfield and even spend time at half-back to continue developing as a footballer...there is not much point with him playing permanently up forward - he is not going to play AFL footy as a forward pocket.

I absolutely agree, but we would have said the same about MacAffer, Coombes and Gray last season ... guys like Herrington before that. It generally doesn't take too many to win it ... 40 can do it ... and if he plays 10 games at FF again he could get it.

OK - that's a fair enough statement. I personally expect Graham will kick more than 40 goals if he is able to remedy some of the 'dropsy' problems he had last season - kicked about 30 goals from recollection as a bottom-ager. Spent time at full-back during a practice match I saw however, so that would make it hard for him!

I also think things will be a bit tougher for the state reps this year - the carnival is now over three weekends, add the trial match and potentially a compulsory week off afterwards - that is five matches that Vic Country/Metro players will miss during 2007. I might be jumping the gun, but I would expect Maric to be part of that program based on what I saw last year.

I would agree and when you add the AIS south Africa trip and school football committments with PEGS I can't see Maric or Cotchin playing more than a handful of TAC Cup games this year.
