I dont know if it was Rosa or Rob Forster-Knight but a big pat on the back from me for the wheeling and dealing so far this off season.

I know we all want the net win straight away but the positive result in trades so far sees our (overall) draft hand in a much better spot than when we first had our picks locked in. Add in a future first and I dont see the negativity of wanting more outweighing the positive of what we have

well done Matt

I'm not quite as a positive. I'd give him a pass, but that's it.

We still lost pick 9. We get back most probably a very similar pick next year - but in a weaker draft - and it's 12 months down the track. We're a s**t team now, so it'd be preferable to get better sooner.

I do think it was probably still the smart/safe move though. I'm absolutely sitting on the fence.

I'd give him a 5, maybe 6/10 thus far. Whist I think the nay-sayers have been overly harsh, I also think the people heaping praise have gone too far the other way.

High chance we lose Pick 9 to a Kako bid in the scenario we don't trade it.

We got an F1 and a number of selections we converted to 3 x picks inside 43.

Weaker draft ? you know this is 100% true ? Even if it is it is good to have two picks in the first round.

They turned a mid range first round pick into a F1 likely to be 12 to 20 best case. Got two second round picks in a draft that looks to have depth, although I do not buy total super draft. We also did not have to burn any future picks trading for points to cover Kako. On top of that most of the guys that where a good fit list wise went before pick 9 anyway. There is also the fact that it is in the media that if we held onto the live pick then clubs would have had a slightly different approach.

Well, no - but at the very least, it's seemingly weaker.

I could say the same to you suggesting that we get two second round picks in a draft that 'looks to have depth' - do you know 100% that it does?

Like I said, I'm not unhappy with how Draft night #1 went - but again, I think the praise is a bit over the top.

Definitely a chance we lose it.

I'm not pot-shotting him - he did a fine job. I just don't understand all these fans saying how amazing he did.

He made the safe move, which was - probably - the right move.

There's a world where we end up with a Lindsay or a Berry and Kako going into next year. That's the winning move. Then there's the losing move, which is having to use pick 9 to match an earlier Kako bid. He did neither, so I don't really think you can call it a win or a loss so far.

If I were him, I'd have made the same move - coming into a new club, playing it safe. But again, I don't agree with him being heaped in praise as if he's struck some kind of amazing deal.

People genuinely can't comprehend that where Kako was bid on last night, almost certainly was due to us having traded out our first and doing a deal with the Saints to move their 2nd up.

It's not a fact though, so it's not about not being able to 'comprehend' it. There is a chance that bid still ends up at 13 and we get to take pick 9.

We'll never know. Because of that, IMO you can't call it a W or an L.

It’s classic new relationship praise.

We are comparing everything to our incompent ex (list manager)

So a new person comes in and does basic things and they are just wonderful for doing the bare minimum

Pick 9 was pick 11 on the night. Kako went at 13 when clubs knew we’d already covered the cost and we’d done a deal with the Saints to upgrade their 2nd rounder.

People obsessing over WINNING the draft are the Dodoro in this situation.

You could argue that just simply eliminating that possibility, he made the right move.

The criticism of the move comes from 20 years of consistently making the wrong move. I’d argue if Geelong or Sydney were in our shoes and made the exact same move, the media would be rushing to praise their brilliance.

weaker draft?? where is this coming from?

No I can not say 100% but I have the contacts and have watched enough to say it does have a bit of depth even though I am not on the super draft train. I think they have done well to turn 9 and 28 into something that has more options and still get a genuine need in Kako and also leave us with a strong hand going forward.

It would likely be better if we had two first round picks this year rather than next year, but that's got nothing to do with Rosa. That flunky one point victory over Freo which ended up securing 11th spot on the ladder instead of 14th spot on the ladder cost us. Going into draft night without making any moves to strengthen our draft points situation was simply not an option, unless the option was "let Kako go"

The value for us in this academy stuff is that it allows to basically create a bonus first round draft pick using cents on the dollar. We still have that bonus first round draft pick, it's just next year.

I'd give him an incomplete. He gains points not trading the F1 but it depends on where it falls as to whether it's a success or not.
I take everything I’ve posted back & line up behind this… where the F picks fall + 2025 draft strength.

I think the delirious fans mad enough to think we’ll be trading for Reid are the Dodoro’s, personally

Feels a little bit like he’s started with a paperclip and traded up through a series of incremental trades and ended up with a house.

And even though you can’t say we won any of them at this point they all were part of a cohesive plan and the end result is certainly more positive than the start.
