Got it … think it comes down to:

1. To use our 9 this year we ideally use our F3 to pad out later ‘24 points for Kako. Let’s call it a F2 to be sure.
So (big IF that Kako goes past 9) our options were:
Melbourne trade : Kako + F1 (in an uncertain draft)
OR
Use 9 (in a solid draft) + Kako but lose a F2 (uncertain draft)
- Think I’d take ‘24 draft certainty and a that high pick a year earlier every time

2. Yeah, in isolation I’m probably with you on not taking the risk. But if that gamble enabled me to possibly use pick 9 in ‘24 (and get Kayo) it seems fair… gamble would might be more fun than death riding Melbourne…
I think we were probably told in fairly certain terms that a bid on Kako would come before pick 9 so I think a decision to not trade our pick out would have been less of a gamble and more of a complete ****up

Can't really judge talent so early but seemingly the process was a success.

faible laid out what it appears he has created value wise from what we had, that alone feels fresh and a bit more modern.
Previously if we were marching into this period with prior regime we would have gone all out chasing some big fish, played out across trade radio because of course. Punting the draft because, hey we just don't have capital. Or burnt future capital to try and pad the short term and be constantly chasing debt.

It would have been the Essendon brand of late, all flash and style. Being seen to be seen, making moves to make moves, all about the show.

This was a relatively quiet and on its face "boring" off season period. But you can see the plan, you can see the why behind the moves and it feels like what a modern club should be doing.

Tick on the process.
Let's see if the plan results in success, and we can mark him on that because of course, but the fact that we seem to have a plan? A multi year one at that is the exciting development here and now.

Pretty sure the value got better since we did that STK trade too

If I'm reading right:

Traded Out: 9, 44 (F3), 53 (Stringer), 62 (F4) = 2187 Points

Traded In: 5 (F1), 25 (F2), 32, 35, 37, 54, 65 = 4533 Points

That extra value is roughly equivalent to the value of Pick 3, so quite the sequence of trades he's done.

We started the trade period with (ignoring 3rd round onwards):

2024
1 x 1st
1 x 2nd

2025
1 x 1st
1 x 2nd

We finished with

2024
1 x 1st
2 x 2nd

2025
2 x 1st
2 x 2nd

I never thought I would enjoy a meat and potatoes type of off season but if this is what it feels like then im all for it because there was nothing fancy. No major surprises. Just getting down to business and enhancing our prospects after getting a final evaluation on the list in 2025

Include RFK in this. He has a big role as well and will be interesting to see how he goes out of the Dodoro shadow. Injury and bad luck aside I think we will have a good idea across the whole draft at the start of 2027.
Does RFK have significant input into draft strategy/pick trading etc or is he more in his lane of talent identification?

No arrogance, no smugness , no fist pumping, no shit eating grin. Gotta love Matt Rosa.
Bit light on layered multi-jacket ensemble for my liking.

People often say Adrian wore a jacket over a jacket - they are wrong. If you look closely, he’s actually wearing 3 jackets with his shit eating grin.

Enjoy the fact that our already untapped team is going to be pushed by kids under neath and not mediocre mature agers the former regime seemed to enjoy.

I know Prior may be taken but he fills a direct AFL spot and will be pushed by this drafts crop quickly imho.

He certainly has a voice but at the end of the day the final call is with Rosa as far as pick swaps etc. RFK would have all the info on where they rated players including futures. They would sit down together along with McPherson and have several strategies. Scotts input would be along the lines of game plan and player types with more input on player trades. RFK produces the draft rankings. Vozzo also has a voice and sign off on everything but his job is to make sure they stay in the lane once the strategies have been worked and not drift too far away from plan A to G. They all have a big role to play. If one fails they all fail.

Don't you mean plan m?

Really nice draft for mine. Held his nerve, we’ve got a nice spread of player types with good upside and not too much development required to be an option in a short time. Looking at 4 top 30ish picks next year as well.
