Tallangatta & DFL discussion 2023

The TDFL are starting to have results similar to what we see in the O&K, big blowouts in almost every game. Not great for the league, I think bringing Corowa over and strengthening Rutherglen is a good start at rejuvenating things. Makes sense now, three clubs on oxygen tanks, let’s hope some common sense prevails over the summer. Tough calls need to be made, and there will be some heartache in the process don’t you worry about that. But there’s huge potential for the area to have a powerhouse organisation, great pies, fantastic wines, couple of high schools with developing talent, it makes sense to break bread and get things moving.

I think Mitta have run out of puff. Redcliffe must be a big disappointment for them. Hodgkin out with the shoulder.
Redcliffe has kicked 52 goals in nine games, was leading the Vic country goal kicking a week ago, hardly disappointing. Like I’ve said in the past, he looks comfortable in the O&M, could easily play up a level to state league if the desire was there.

Has kicked 10 in 5 games when not playing the bottom 4 sides ( DMB, Wahgunyah, Rutherglen & Saints )

all those games resulted in losses, kicks a bag when the side wins but doesn’t seem to help them win games they need to win to play finals ( Tallangatta, Yackandandah, Thurgoona & Barny ) his tally vs these sides is 7

Redcliffe damaged his ankle badly in the second quarter yesterday at Barny.

Sorry but I respectfully disagree. Redcliffe against quality opposition has performed poorly when he was crucially needed. Barny Chiltern Yack Tallangatta Thurgoona KSC, collectively is only 10 goals, average less than 2 goals. The rest are against Saints DMB Rutherglen Wahgunyah.
Redcliffe is a flat track wonder boy who goes missing when it matters.

We haven't played Kiewa, and he only played a quarter against Barny. And if you'd been to all these games you might have noticed he wasn't exactly flush with supply.

When he was 1 out at the kennel with a 5ft4 rover playing on him, got smoked. Delivery in the air he got out bodied too busy looking at the ball & not knowing where it was going to land or where his opponent was. You were probably still in the shower.

Yes I did knock back 3 or 4 in the rooms. Young blokes don't drink heavy. Soft!

Disappointing for Wahgunyah that merger talks have ended. Personally I think it’s a selfish decision by Rutherglen members for not supporting it.
What’s the downside of sharing volunteers and resources in a footy climate that is draining on everyone involved?
There have been some big success stories in the Hume League in recent times to prove the mergers can be positive.
Interestingly the Rutherglen president supported merger talks because he probably does a power of work and understands all the effort required to stay afloat.

That’s probably sealed Wahgunyah’s fate. I feel Rutherglen members have forgone an opportunity to stabilise footy and netball in the area for the sake of a name and colour change. “Short termism” is the only way to describe it.

Could have been an interesting look for the league if we had two new clubs taking the field next year - we might have had the Border Panthers (or whatever it might have been) and also the Upper Murray Eagles. In both cases though, self-interest seems to be hindering progress.
Rutherglen or the merged entity would have had two satisfactory venues for footy and netball. Instead it looks as though Wahgunyah’s newer facilities will go to wreck and ruin, simply because the majority of of Rutherglen members have no foresight.

It was the Rutherglen committee that made the decision not there members

Clubs can be stubborn, North Wang refused to entertain the idea of a merger not so long ago. Went on a five year losing streak and now are happy to be a subpar club, only thing going for them is the facility’s which are about to be taken from them anyway. I understand Rutherglen's sentiment to a certain degree, but when times are tough like this, the logical approach needs to be taken, use your head not your heart. Yeah sure, they know they’ll gain the stranded players and a few supporters without having to adopt the title, but for what? There’s nothing weak about merging, look at BB saints, they’ve been the benchmark in the Hume for quite some time. No club deserves to become instinct when there is a solution.

Not TDFL related in a sense but if Corowa Rutherglen get going again would it be a viable option for them to use Wahgunyahs ground?
Thats if Wahgunyah do pull up stumps of course

One would think that it would be an option. The facilities there for netball and footy are better than most

Think the post reads after consultation with its members it was clear the vote wouldn’t have got passed to merge
Not a lot of members were consulted - the committee have made there decision without any formal consultation from there members and they probably have the right to do so. They the committee need to stand by there decision and now get on with the task of turning things on field around and not jump ship as it’s going to be a long road ahead.

Rutherglen should seriously consider jumping in to bed with Corowa, throw an offer at Mark Sarau for 3-5 years, get all of the Corowa people back. There could be some silverware and buzz back in no time. They’ll also have most of Wahgunyahs stranded cattle as it’s likely their last hoorah.

Rutherglen have clearly stated they will be going it alone.
This topic can be put to Bed
