Some interesting stuff.

Tambling was pretty honest when asked whether or not Bickley has confidence in him.

He said that Bickley sent him back to the SANFL to work on his poise with the ball as well as his aggressive forward running from defence. He was told that he wasn't performing offensively.

Pretty interesting. There's no doubt that Bickley has seen things this year that he didn't like and made a move as soon as he was given head chair.

In my opinion it's been a disaster and completely opposite to the Jacobs trade. There has been little consistency in his selection which further impacts on what was already a pretty unconfident bloke. His actual performances have often been better than other members in his team, but he remained the scapegoat.

If we didn't rate him, why did we trade for him? Was it a rushed decision in order to feel like we did something at the trade table, given the failed attempts to acquire Griffen and other gun midfielders?

This whole Tambling situation is messy.

Just after landing him, we specifically mentioned that we didn’t expect him to be a star such as the expectations were of him at Richmond. We said we just wanted him to become a good contributor, well I thought for the most part he did that, so surely we have been massive hypocrites. Sure he had some underwhelming games and some woeful disposals at key times, and I honestly don’t even rate him that highly and wonder why we traded for him, but we’ve handled him pretty bad. Dropping him for no real reason, using him as the sub (IIRC even after returning to the side!), he’s a fragile guy at the best of times, and we’ve made the situation even worse.

As much of a stretch as it may sound, I believe 2012 is his last chance. I’m 50/50 as to whether he’ll even make it as a Crow.

While I agree this season has been a disaster for Tambling, I still firmly believe he will work out for us, especially under a new regime, especially if the team starts to play with flare and confidence on a regular basis.

I was under the impression he lost all confidence after the St Kilda game where Craig criticised the team for the way they played (ie with aggression) and, given he was suspended, he became unsure as to how he was expected to play and became too worried about not making mistakes. I have been surprised tho that he hasn't got a run under Bickley.

given the type of surgery Bling had the off-season and the fact that he had little to no pre-season, I personally did not expect much from Bling this year

I will make a judgement call on the trade this time next year

Do we really think he started questioning everything he does at his job and completely fell apart from one incident?

It seems wierd. Everyone gets some harsh knocks throughout their working lives, and you just pick up and move on. It must be more than that. I'm sure the coaching staff was in his ear as well, asking for some kind of change of style, and he hasn't been able to pull it off.

to be fair, apparently all the Crows players are mentally weak and incapable of taking criticism

Totally agree. Missing part of the pre-season and then us playing ^%^$# did not help at all. I think next year with Tambling and McKay we should have some good offensive run

Correct call IMO!! :thumbsu:

Nothing has really gone right for Bling since he left Richmond.

The AFL standard is so high that players who have poor or interrupted pre-seasons find it hard to produce anywhere near their best.

On top of this I thought the way Craig handled him was poor from a confidence buiding point of view. Craig publicly humiliated him for getting reported against St Kilda and from that point on Tambling was pissing into the wind to try and hold his spot.

I think we'll see a far better product next year. Hope I'm right.

I think we need to try him in the middle. Let him sink or swim. While he does have a slight frame, he actually has very good clearance work. People have pigeon holed him as an outside player but IMO his foot skills aren't good enough to play that role. In his junior as a genuine ruck rover, extractor type and dominated. Had good clearance work. At the moment he's just playing it too safe. His possessions lack any hurt factor, it screams of a guy who doesn't want to make a mistake, therefore always looks for the simple, sideways option.

He really is an impressive speaker :thumbsu: With him, you know there's a good head on the shoulders. Other players might throw their skirts over their heads when dropped by a new club but you just know he'll keep plugging away, working on the deficiencies outlined by the club, and he'll be back at some stage.

It's been a disappointing year for him, but that trade is not "lost" yet.

I was hoping a bit of Crow culture would get the Richmond out of him.

But Crow culture this year has had far too much Richmond about it.

Make no mistake, Crow fans are having a year in the life of a Richmond supporter.

Hopefully it stays at just a year and we will once again be the Pride of SA instead of the shame.

Agree with others, far too early to call the value of this trade yet. It's his first year at a new club, a club which hasn't really brought the best out of any player on its list, with the exceptions of Thommo and Stiffy.

I actually feel sorry for the bloke, always wanted him to succeed at Richmond but our expectations were so high that he failed to live up to them even when he played well.

Unfortunately we too often made excuses for him like injuries and confidence, too me it has an all too familiar ring to it just wearing different colours which is a shame because he really is a nice bloke and deserves to succeed.

What I've seen of him I've really liked. In most of the games he has played this year I would rate him the top 15 players on the field. There must be something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about because his AFL or SANFL performances haven't been consistently poor enough for him to have not earned a spot in our best 22. Would like to see how he is treated under a new coaching panel (yes, I think there should still be a clean-out).

Meh, would have to be one of the worst trades the club has ever done, for a timid half back flanker who can't kick. That compensation pick would have been pretty handy, even in last year's draft...

Totally agree.

Richmond couldn't pack his bags quick enough and couldn't sign the deal quick enough. Laughed all the way to the bank!

For what we gave up to get him, he is certainly not worth it.

Average player who was an average performer in an average team (Richmond) and will always be average.

Not in our best 30 players and a new coach will not make a schmick of difference.
