Geelong midfielder Tanner Bruhn has signed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at GMHBA Stadium until at least the end of 2027.

The 22-year-old, who was already contracted for 2025, joined the Cats in late 2022 via a trade with GWS Giants, and has been a consistent figure for the Cats since arriving, playing 29 of a possible 36 games.

A Geelong local who played his football for Newtown and Chilwell, Bruhn was drafted to GWS with the 12th selection before making the switch to Geelong in the 2022 trade period.

Since arriving, Bruhn has continued to develop, averaging career-high disposals (18.45), tackles (4.6), clearances (5.5) and score involvements (4.1) in 2024, as well as hitting the scoreboard kicking three goals in the first half of the season.

Someone like Smith coming in would do him wonders.

Get him running all pre-season, and then with Smith & Holmes taking all the attention as the stars of the midfield, he can flourish as that third or fourth mid flying under the radar.

I know we're not all onboard with bringing in prime aged players as it's going to cost us picks....but it's not just about what they bring themselves, it's what they can do for the players we already have.

The same argument is there for Dempsey & Clark FWIW, and even Knevitt, Clohesy, & Stevens...but they're another year or two behind Bruhn you'd think.

I've been really impressed with his unwavering determination. It's been an apprenticeship of sorts under the adversity of a undermanned midfield. With the addition of Danger and Guth plus addition of one or two others at season's end, he'll have a lot of support to improve and also assist the development of his younger teammates

Bartel is a classic example of a player going from fringe to decent to star from years 3-6 on the list. Bartel was dropped early in his 3rd year (2004) like Bruhn (2023).

Then he was decent in 2005, one of our best in a struggling team in 2006 and a star in 2007. Bruhn is decent in 2024. The big question is whether he can develop in the same way.

also I suspect the TOG is lower for bruhn compare to a few of those on the list.
