Burnie Yeoman All out 86 (McCall 27, Cashion 4/29, Crawford 3/33)

vs Sheffield 7/151 (Crosswell 54*, Dawkins 27, McCall 4/37)

Ouch. Dale Baker not playing and a lineup of Burnie Yeoman nobodies isn't up to the task. No Leatherbarrows, Shane Walker, Kade Munday, Chalky Grey, Claye Young around anymore and the next generation is struggling. Sheffield must think they're a chance to make the semis because the name C.Boutcher bobs up on the scoresheet. Boutch is getting like the Bionic Man...
Boutcher - The marathon man
Burnie/Yeoman - It just gets better and better

New Town v North Hobart at New Town
Kingborough v Glenorchy at Kingston Beach
University v Clarence at University
Sth Hobart-Sandy Bay v Lindisfarne at Queenborough

Interesting games shaping up here, pick of the bunch is University v Clarence - Uni are in good form after a sluggish start, Clarence are flexing their muscles as they do. Expect Clarence to sneak in

Other tips are North Hobart (to slaughter New Town), Glenorchy (to comfortably defeat the Borough), and SHSB (outright again??)

Now I'll be away over Xmas, enjoying the time off, returning New Year's day, so from me, hope you all have a great Xmas break and an even better new year :)

NWTCA Day 2

Ulverstone 9dec/351

Latrobe resuming at 0/12

Latrobe all out 293 (Colin Lamont 128, Adkins 55, Blair 4/81, Walmsley 3/27)

Unfortunately for the Demons, not enough work from the lower order sees the Robins take the points.

-----------------------

Devonport 112, Wynyard res at 4/165

Wynyard 8dec/253 (Bradmore 60, Gee 29*, Callan Dell 5/41)

Devonport 2nd inns 192 (Underwood 57, Lawler 65, Anthony Smith 6/47)

Wynyard 0/52 win outright

And now the boys from the Cape are firing on all cylinders. Anthony Smith has now taken back to back 10-fors, I *think* you'd have to go back to the 60s and 70s for the last time a Wynyard bowler did that.

-----------------------

Burnie Yeoman 86, Sheffield resumed at 7/151

Sheffield all out 180 (Croswell 58, McCall 5/45)

Burnie Yeoman 2nd inns 9dec 193 (Yates 70, McCall 46, Boutcher 4/46, Crawford 3/59)

Sheffield target 99 in 10 overs, finished 1/43

A good effort away from home for the Mountain men, they could loom as dark horses after Christmas.

Heading into the Xmas break, Wynyard and Ulverstone have bolted to the top of the NWTCA ladder, with Devonport, Sheffield and Latrobe bunched further back and Burnie Yeoman bringing up the rear with work to do, but by no means out of the hunt completely.

In summary:

WYNYARD - have the bowlers, bats need to fire.
ULVERSTONE - relying a lot on Blair, need other bats to find form.
DEVONPORT - young side getting found out in the longer game.
SHEFFIELD - have a great attack with the ball, getting let down with the bat.
LATROBE - seem to be happy with last year's premiership.
BURNIE-YEOMAN - doing the right thing in sticking with youth, question remains whether the players themselves are of A grade standard.

Hmmmm Insider, not real flash form here, Son!

Let's see ............

Expect Clarence to sneak in Result: Outright win to University!

North Hobart to slaughter New Town Result: Very nearly the biggest upset of the last decade! The Demons just holding of the Townies from winning outright!

But you did at least get the result right!

Glenorchy to comfortably defeat the Borough Result: Outright win to Kingborough!

SHSB Outright again? Result: Almost lost outright to the 'Farne!

I'll let you off because it's the Festive Season but lift your game in '07 or I might have to give the TCA reins to GOT TO LIFT!

OMG!! North Hobart almost leave with eggs on their face after almost being beaten outright by the worst side in the competiton!!

South Hobart-Sandy Bay 206 - Doolan 42, Davies 35, Drew 4/33; and 174 - Little 42, Martin 42 def Lindisfarne 170 - Dance 48, Wishart 24, Duval 4/34, Polkinghorne 3/46
Lindisfarne throw away 1st Innings points

Another Upset Result - University throw their cards in for the top 4

Next Matches - Round 9 - 1 day matches - Saturday 6 January
Sth Hobart-Sandy Bay v Clarence at Queenborough
University v Lindisfarne at University
Glenorchy v North Hobart at KGV
Kingborough v New Town at Kingston Beach

Early Tips: SHSB (will account for a lacklustre Clarence), University ("should" beat the 'Farne); Glenorchy (should bounce back against a disappointing North Hobart); Kingborough (hotter than fire at the moment, and they'll burn the Townies)

NTCA FIRST GRADE (after round 8):
Launceston 77.21, Riverside 65.79, Mowbray 64.60, Westbury Shamrocks 39.66, South Launceston 22.11, George Town 17.82

NTCA 1st Grade Next Round – Saturday 6th January
South Launceston v Westbury at NTCA 2 – Loss for South and it’s all but over
George Town v Launceston at Crothers Oval – Should be a mere formality for the Launceston boys
Mowbray v Riverside at Invermay Park – 2nd spot at stake and a semi final preview?

NWTCA 1st Grade (after Round 8)
Ulverstone 91, Wynyard 91, Devonport 54, Latrobe 49, Sheffield 46, Burnie/Yeoman 28

NWTCA 1st Grade Next Round – Sat 6/13 January
Latrobe v Sheffield at Latrobe Rec Ground – Winner will consolidate 4th Spot
Wynyard v Ulverstone at Wynyard Showgrounds – Match of the Season so far to date, winner will get a big boost ahead of the finals
Devonport v Burnie/Yeoman – Burnie’s last realistic chance of victory

TCA was a washout - No play what so ever, points shared between the teams.

Next Week - Rivalry Round - Saturday 13/1
Lindisfarne v Clarence at Anzac Park - Clarence needing a win to get back into the 4.

Glenorchy v New Town at KGV - Glenorchy should steamroll the Townies really, especially with the likely inclusion of their state players

University v South Hobart/Sandy Bay - Danger game for the Sharks, loss could see them surrender top spot

North Hobart v Kingborough - An appatising Match of the Day awaits, Kingborough rocking and rolling, North Hobart quietly going about their business, hard to pick this one

Tips: Clarence, Glenorchy, University (just), Kingborough (just)

I have brief NTCA results here from 1st Grade..full details tommorrow night

South Launceston 162 def Westbury 118
South keep their finals hopes alive, closing the gap to 13 points between them and Westbury for 4th spot, Westbury's batting insipid once again, undoing their good work with the ball

Launceston 284 def George Town 263
George Town were 2/202 at one stage, 2nd string Launceston squad gets out of jail and virtally wraps up top spot. Very entertaining game on a fast Crothers Oval outfield

Riverside 8/210 def Mowbray 140
Mowbray were 4/16, never threatened. Riverside almost assured of 2nd spot, half a chance against Launceston in the Greater Northern Cup Final on January 21

Also on Sunday - The twenty20 final between SHSB and University was abandoned after 9.3 overs - Date to be re-confirmed, and the venue - University were 3/86

Burnie likely to get back into the mix after their best effort with the bat all year.

Ulverstone put up a soild effort against Wynyard.

Outright result looms for Latrobe or Sheffield one thinks, and Boutch is proving to be ever consistent once again, OH MY!!

2nd Grade - Two teams likely to choke on chasing small totals....
