One of the Baldwin brothers. Hobart, then I think Ricmond

Peter Baldwin, number 19 for Hobart, came from the mainland somewhere and played in the 1992 Squad.
Very skillfull player, left the Tigers after the 1992 Grand Final and went back to the mainland. Was a best & fairest at Hobart in 1992 and polled pretty well in the William Leitch Medal as well that year.

Made a huge impact in his one year at Hobart.

Mark Watterson - Sandy Bay

Perennial Reserves Player. Played Seniors here and there.

FLOGGER!

Did you blokes realise that Watto actually tied with Darren Pritchard for the best and fairest in the seniors at the bay but then lost on a count back? Pritchard then went to the Hawks and Watto was going to Carlton but then snapped his leg just like Nathan Brown last year and never really got back from it. Kept playing through the years with many injuries, everytime he got back into the seniors he'd get another one. Just extremely bad luck.

You should really get to know someone before making a judgement on their character, he's actually a great bloke. It's ridiculous statements like that which are made without any research being done whatsoever that turn people away from using Bigfooty altogether.

Matthew Armstrong - Hobart
Hedley Thompson - New Norfolk
James Manson - Glenorchy

As far as I know never played with Glenorchy, was recruited by Collingwood from North Hobart.

His Father Jim and Brother Ashley did play for the Magpies however. Ashley being one of the biggest goalguts' I've ever seen! Once kicked 2.8 in an Under 17's match. Was trying to kick them from all angles, in doing so got his body into some amazing positions!

Is that you, Watto?! :p

Didn't know he tied with "Pritch"! In fairness to him I'm judging him on what I saw of him some 8-10 years later.

I'm merely commenting on my opinion of him as an opposition supporter. I've actually met Gavin Cooney before and found him to be not a bad bloke, however this doesn't stop him being one of the most hated footballers Southern Tasmania have ever seen. Why? Because people dislike the footballer they see running around of a Saturday! I'll bet you being a Collingwood supporter think Jason Akermanis for example is many a name unprintable on here!

Just to keep you happy, next time I feel like commenting on someone I'll research what they are really like!

"It's ridiculous statements like that which are made without any research being done whatsoever that turn people away from using Bigfooty altogether." Well if that's the case then don't let the door hit you on the ar$e on the way out!

Go study some Stock Exchange websites or whatever it is you Sandy Bay fellas RESEARCH!

Last I heard Ash was playing Amatuer/Suburban footy over in Melbourne. He was either playing footy or living with Big James. Also heard Ash doesn't mind some good gear if you know what I mean.

Fooksy on the other hand, spent the last couple of years with Huonville after playing at Glenorchy. Very down to Earth compared to other "TFL" players you come accross, he apparently last year got crunched in a game and one of his testicles literally busted. He missed the rest of the year not surprisingly and I'm not sure if he is going to play on this year. Huonville some weeks ago were advertising for an Assitstant Coach for 2006 and given this was the position Nick held last year could be a fair indication he may be having a break or has indeed retired!

Did he say "FOOK"

Marc Roberts - played in Premierships for Claremont in, I think, 93 and 94! Kicked over 100 goals one year along with Cary Millhouse who kicked his obligatory 150+ the same year.

Tried to take near the entire Senior Premiership Side from 1994 down to Franklin with him. Almost had them too, until one nameless player pulled out, saying "If ya playing for money and ya heart's not in it then ya may as well not play!" And with that he stayed and so did the rest.

Played with Lindisfarne around 1995-1997 and was hated by Claremont. I recall Glenn "Grinner" Hill rubbing his head intot he turf such was the hatred towards him!

Starting to get to the stage where I can't remember if we've mentioned some of these guys or not yet.....

Paul Dac - New Norfolk, Clarence

Interesting story that Barge. I know he played in the 1990 premiership with Hobart, I can't remember if he played in '91 or not. Wasn't in the '92 squad from memory.
Often wondered where he went too, was a pretty good player and I didn't think he was over the hill in TFL footy that he should retire.
Wasn't all that popular amongst a lot of Hobart supporters in his time at the Tigers, that I do remember. Had a bit of an attitude.

____________
Paul Dac was one of the last of the goal machine full forwards in the TFL, topped the ton a few times with New Norfolk, booted 7 goals in one quarter at Boyer against North Hobart when Yeates was in charge of the Demons.
Played his last game for the Eagles against Hobart at Boyer in the last round of 1993.
The Eagles needed to win to make the five, Hobart couldn't make it but were in blistering form towards the end of the season, and Glenorchy needed to beat the Bay at Queenborough to jump into the five.
Simon Sproule held Dac kickless (no posessions at all in fact) and Dac was dragged in the third quarter, and never played with New Norfolk again.
Hobart trounced the Eagles, Glenorchy beat the Bay and made the five.
The following year, Dac was at Clarence, and as luck would have it, Clarence and New Norfolk met in the Grand Final.
Inside the first 15 seconds of the Grand Final Dac kicked an amazing goal from the boundary line infront of the scoreboard for the Roos, to rub it into New Norfolk even further, and of course Clarence won the grand final easily.
Retired a year or so later, and not seen or heard of him since he retired, but saw him at the Grand Final last year, looked as fit as a fiddle, probably fitter than half the players, and was in the New Norfolk rooms at half-time giving them a peptalk - seemed to have a better relationship with his old club again.

I doubt I'm telling you something you don't know here - Played at Claremont in 2000.

Was on a king's ransom (Why do all my posts about Claremont recruits over the years contain those two words?) and hardly did a thing.

2 stories that spring to mind about his year at the Mont, one we were playing at Abbotsfield Park one day and it was a horrible day. Not renowned for being overly keen on these days our Paul, I said to one of the boys "Betcha Daccy doesn't play in the 1's today!"

Sure enough, we're trudging along in the 2's when one of the better performed players is taken from the ground. "Why the bloody hell are they taking him off?" I thought to myself!

Yep, he was going up to replace Daccy who had pulled out with the "flu"!

Sure enough, us 2's players go up to the bar for a beer and to watch the Seniors - There's Daccy in the bar watching - WEARING SHORTS!

2nd story - He'd missed a few games with one of his BS injuries and there was talk he'd come back through the Ressies. Being a 2's player at the time, I, and the boys were quite excited that, although past his best, we were a chance to play with the legendary Paul Dac.

STOP RIGHT THERE, BOYS!

Like he was ever going to play in the Ressies - FOR FREE!

**********************************

Matthew McCartin - New Norfolk

Drafted by Geelong, recruited by New Norfolk, dogged by knee injuries there, Claremont coach in 1997.

An awesome coach at CFC in 1997. Amazingly respected by all at the club that year despite being just 25 years of age. Lost one game all year, to Kingston by about 80 pts, flogged the same team by 70 pts in the 2nd Semi only to lose the GF by 4 goals, a margin that flattered Claremont on the day (2.14 or there abouts the actual difference.

McCartin ummed and ahhed after the 97 Season about whether to coach CFC again, elected to return to New Norfolk and has been quoted as saying he "would have stayed had we won the flag that year."

Him leaving was the beginning of the end for the club. Had he have stayed I can guarantee all of you, Claremont would have today been competing in the Premier League and not the Regional League.

Is that when Graeme "Brer" Fox took over Barge? If so how do you rate him a a coach?

I've heard he was pretty favourable to his son by a few people.

I think I may have been one of them a few pages back on this very thread.

In that respect, worse than any parent I've seen. Poor Nathan had alot to live up to and unfortunately for him, and Brer, had nothing on the Old Man!

I personally, didn't think he was that bad as a coach and a bloke, Brer.

Following "Burger" McCartin as Coach was always gonna be a tough act to follow, and given over the 97-98 off Season we had something of an exodus and therefore the results in '98 weren't what we were used to at the time I'm afraid Ol' Brer copped a fair bit of the blame, in my opinion more than he should have.

Was made something of a scapegoat in 98 by many of the players for performances that they themselves should have taken more blame for than they did. Never had the confidence of the players in my opinion and at the end of the year I'm pretty sure they were glad to see the back of him and I dare say he was glad to see the back of them in return!

But I re-iterate my earlier comment - I didn't think he was that bad!

////////////////////////////////

Doc. Kingpin. thoughts on this next guy - who I went to school with in the Glenorchy area and left me baffled how he never played for the Magpies:

Paul Ransley - Hobart, New Norfolk, Clarence.

For some reason this name popped into my head today
Steven Fry - Clarence

The big defender, always used to be in The Mercury on a Saturday morning in his police uniform talking up the game that day.

I'll name a few Devonport players - Grant Guard (also Burnie), Wayne Weidemann (current West Adelaide coach) and Fabian Carelli (B&F winner in 1998)
