i was just wondering if anyone could give me any info on Allan Chandler in the Southern football league, from Cygnet, he is playing out our club this year in melboure and seems to be quit handy, also with a cricket ball, making 2 50s and taking 2 5 fors in his 3 games?

any info would be appreciated.

cheers.

Ducky Chandler, not a bad footballer. Smart. Quick and can play at both ends.
Tore it up as a cricketer here making huge runs and taking plenty of wickets aswell

mcgaune coached the last statewide burnie is 2000. won the premiership in the first year back in the ntfl in 2001, burnies first of 5 in a row. wright never coached burnie. barge, ill give credit where credit is due, i think in your 6 thousand posts on big footy, some sober some under the weather, this is your first incorrect comment:D

Come on Hardnut69, don't be like the rest of them on here!

I don't think you are going to be to far off the mark with those choices. I'm afraid Plappy is not going to get up and play to many games this year because of leg injuries. Fit but unable to run.

Can anyone from Claremont tell me if a guy from up launceston way has been training he played a little statewide with launceston then went bush?

To my knowledge Rich, they had a couple of guys from Avoca training before Christmas but as of a couple of weeks ago they had not been sighted.

I'll see what the latest is and get back to you.

In something I find hard to believe, I was told early in the week that former New Norfolk coach Matthew Smith has signed to play with Brighton!

My research tells me his Contract with Leeton in NSW who he was to have coached is apparently no more!

Maybe monna can elaborate on this one for us?

Anyone have any thoughts on the old scholars this season?
Looks like it is going to be a really strong comp with OHA, St Virgils and Richmond recruiting extremely well.
Flag and B&F thoughts anyone?

If it is true then it has gone completely under my radar. Haven't seen, nor heard a whisper of Matty Smith since he was linked with Leeton.

Premiers; OHA
B&F; Scott McCallum
Leading Goal Kicker; Brendan Rogers
Player To Watch; Darren Winter!

Who is darren winter playing for??

Playing with OHA, along with Anthony Cole. Also heard that some ex Clarence players playing with Lauderdale in the Super Rules are going to have a kick with OHA ressies.....Jack Cullen, Bear Sheehan, Andrew Johnstone and Darryn Perry....I reckon they could all still play 1s!!! They slaughter the super rules comp.

OHA are making a serious impression with those signings! Scott McCallum must be very well liked by his peers to get them all to play for him.

Are they throwing the cash around as well??

No cash involved...those blokes will help the younger ones I reckon. I doubt any of them will want to play seniors....but who knows a few injuries and they could be coaxed into playing...It would certainly worry the opposition if those blokes were running around, despite their age!

Had a visit to the sporting pulse website for a look at the clearances so far.....few surprises there....

Barge's pygmies have strengthed their height and backline with the addition of former New Norfolk fullback, Zac Clayton... Cameron Bugg - Northern recruit. Ruckman (?) Gavin Hanlon from New Norfolk.....other New Norfolk signings include (Ozguy's favourite son) Dean King and Ricky Martin.

On the basis of this, the 'Mont look like they will be the big improvers this season.

Other interesting notes,

Sorell look like they have lost a few players, most notably the departures of Rod Callinan, Justin Westbury to Clarence, Key backmen George Stirling and Michael Craik to Dodges Ferry and big "Krusty the clown" full forward Sam Bowering to OHA.

Reports of Matthew Smith signing for Brighton according to the person with impeccable sources - (Barge) seem to be incorrect at this stage with him being listed as being cleared to Leeton in the Riverina Football League.

Central Hawks picking up former Tunnack strongman Edwin Scott:D...and a couple of Norfikers.

Brendan Bolton to Clarence along with Matthew Drury from Hutchins.

Luke Goodsell departing Hobart to head to Lindisfarne, assuming he will join his brother there.

The thread is below if anyone wants to have a squiz for other names of interest.

Any news on Penguin or Wynyard?
Have Penguin kept their mainland recruits from last year? Cotton hard to replace. Wynyard lost some young guns to Burnie, any recruits?

Hunt will bring some players from Yolla with him. Hard to tell whether they will be able to cut it in the NTFL...?? I hope they can for the club and competition's sake. They won the u19 flag two years ago. Hopefully they look/have looked after those players.

Queenstown Football Culture from 2001

Well here we have it. I am digging out some old classics from the Football Life days. Here's a beauty first up http://dufftv.com.au/?p=98

More to come as well as the footy show demo over the coming weeks. Who said that?

Did I or did I not say Smith to Brighton did not wash with me?

Ed Scott - lives around the corner - closer to the Claremont clubrooms than me!

Not much of a loss according to Ozguy!
