Snouter you are right Latrobe beat Devonport in 03 but did not finish third. The next week Latrobe played Launceston and got beat. Devonport played South Launceston and won. So the next week there were only 4 teams left. Burnie, Ltn, Bombers and Devonport. That means the ladder position at the end of the final series looked like this

1 Burnie Dockers
2 Nth Bombers
3 Devonport
4 Launceston
5 Latrobe
6 South Launceston

Crazy set up i know. The next year they returned to the final 5 and gave the final 6 the flick. How is Ash going over there. We never saw the best of him because of injury. He was to honest for Latrobe and a lot of them could not take it.

I apologise then, they did beat Devonport. I knew they didn't finish third though as i can remember the final four teams left as there were two prelims. Ash Brown honest, he was knocking off players girlfriends, and thats a fact.

Your right Docker5, it must have been 04 or 05 they finished 3rd. Ash is going well, took on a big job with West Gambier but stuck with kids and got rid of a few ********s and they look like they could be a big threat this year. His asst coach is an ex docker (Rick Slatter) and he said the same about latrobe not being able to handle his honesty and no nonsense approach. How are the Dockers looking this season?

Snouter, sounds like you have some of that white powder stuck up your nose.

04
1. Burnie
2. Devonport
3. Launceston
4. South Launceston
5. Who cares!

05.
Burnie
Devonport beaten by 17 points, good come back considering they were getting pumped early.
Launceston, who were beaten by burnie in the prelim.
Northern Bombers
Who cares.

No latrobe my friend finishing higher than that.

who won demons or magpies ?????

Pies easy!!! 55 points!

It was an impressive performance by the pies, they are stronger than last year!

A young kid name Cox is going to be a super player, youn quick half forwar/winger type.

Bowring kicked 7, and Glenn kicked 5. The maggies thrashed the demons in every department, esp. the stoppages and up forward.

North badly missed Kenny Hall, and they will get better and make the top 5.

Whoever, if anyone, beats the pies will win the flag!

It was great to see more people back watching footy! The SFL should add more night games to the roster, people will attend!!

Loved the score in the paper, said Glenorchy 14 to NH 89.

Since the scorebaord didn't match the headline I read through and worked out they missed a 1 out of Glenorchy's score.

A half strength Huonville side beat Kinston with three out by about 15 points, although they were up by 7 goals at one stage.
Blight was not a happy camper. He kept them in the changerooms for over 45 mins and gave them a huge spary.
Noticable spectators were Nash,Baker and Collis.

Prior social engagement?? I hope you are referring to birth of another Barge junior FFS??

Where is your loyalty to the Pies? I'm starting to doubt you my boy....

I certainly hope you are not too busy to watch the real stuff at the 'Gabba??

No, Barge Jnr #2's arrival looks like it will prevent me making the journey down to Cygnet to watch Claremont play them in late July.

I must say I have only a passing interest in Glenorchy these days, keep an eye on their results but don't get excited if they win or disappointed if they lose.

Haven't really had an emotional attachment to them since I departed really.

Don't worry, all at the Carlyle last night knew the footy was on and who I was following!

Bird working in the middle bar said I wasn't allowed to barrack loudly!

I can't watch it in here then, I thought! So with the next contentious decision I yelled "BULLS...!" and walked out and proceded to watch from the Main Bar!

Did anybody else see the ad in the sports section of the mercury today? Hobart football club advertising for players.

Smacks of desparation to me. Considering that the season kicks off a week from today. I know they have lost a lot of players to St Virgils, but things must be bad if they need to advertise.

Anyone got any insider knowledge on this one?

As I said to a very excited Glenorchy supporter last night, don't get too excited, North Hobart will shit the flag in due in no small part to that DISGRACEFUL rule that allows Devils players to play SFL finals irrespective ofhow many club games they play!

Imagine their side come finals with Ken Hall, Cameron Thurley, Brett Geappen and who ever else!

They've probably got half of these interstate recruits signed up too!

i went to the game last night
glenorchy outclassed north hobart all over the ground!
jake cox seems to be a star of the future!
north seemed like they didnt want to be there!
they will be the team to best though when it comes finals time with the devils players
the likes of long, creese, cox, bielski, burgess, richter, Thurley, B geappen and vearing and apprently north have also signed the one Paul Kouloritis
and add the likes of hall, cat, de gooyer, devine, div venuto, curtain and dunham
north you would think they would win by over a couple of goals!

Wouldn't have minded toddling along for a look at that game, but alas I was stuck at work 'til 11pm.
Looked like there were a fair few at the game from what I could see on the news.
In regard to more night games, I quite agree, but they've really gotta get the lighting facilities up to scratch first.
Hobart Lions allegedly turned down the offer of playing Brighton under lights next Saturday night at Pontville, so it looks that that match will be a day game.
A bloke I know that barracks for Brighton reckons the lights aren't quite right yet anyway so...

There was talk of a rule that would allow devils listed players to play finals footy, but i'm pretty sure that the SFL clubs overturned it, voting against this movement. Over the last few years it was at least 3 sfl games and no more than 10 vfl games to qualify. Will find out for you this week from someone that definitely knows.....

The game on Fri night:
  • saying that Glenorchy are better than last year is a load of rubbish... Out of last year's side comes Newitt (experienced and still found the ball), Joseph (very, very good player), Armstrong (could play on a tall, athletic, courageous player, will miss him down back as it frees up another player), Spencer (ruck rotation, but probably in bottom 3 players in team), Cornelius (If Cressa has any sense he should play him in the VFL all season and develop him - big future). Have I missed any others? Although these blokes have gone, it gives younger players an opportunity......
  • Cox, a youngster, looked impressive. Has pace and will carry the ball. Exploited North Hobart's deficiency in this area.
  • Glenorchy will be a top side, but I don't think they will be better than last year though. Remember that Newy did a good job with them and now he's gone.
  • North Hobart looked a little sluggish around the ground. Diva injured won't help either. Geappen lacked on-ball support.
  • The demons lack height. Must be a real concern. Rae had to ruck for most of the night which is a big ask for him. Although this maybe the case, he's a 200 game player for the club and he'll learn alot from the experience. Who are their key backs and are they big enough? I wouldn't say that they'll shit the flag in though!!!
  • Is Coxy injured? He was running out there for a while.
  • Poor crowd - there was more there a couple of years back. Not sure whether this was a fixture last year???
I hope the Mercury pull their fingers out with their coverage. Been pretty ordinary.

Latrobe defeated Penguin.....David Law do his lolly at the Two Blues again?

Probably not as much as Lyle Elliott would have done after their loss to South today.
South certainly came to play, Smithton simply were missing, very ordinary effort by the Saints, who have an interesting assignment at Penguin next week.

Exactly what might that "DISGRACEFUL" rule be BARGE???

I don't think you've got any idea what the qualification rule is or isn't!!

Another un-informed comment. If all of these players qualify for the finals under the rules as they stand I will go HE!!!!

How about you find out what the rules are before you put your two bits in!!! Fair Dinkum.

I also watched tonights game from an 'un-biased' viewpoint and North Hobart need to make up 10 goals at the very least. Glenorchy could have won by a fair bit more if they had kicked accurately.

None of those players mentioned give them strength in the area they were sadly lacking and that is quality talls. Aside from Rae they don't have a player over 6'3"- 6'4" that is gonna be capable of matching up or stopping Glenorchy's tall's.

How about being objective boys???

I was told the SFL rules had a minimum five club games, as there are now three byes for the devils . My source also told me AFL Tas allocate players and North have not got as many devils plaers as first thought.

It is 5 roster matches during the season.

But can't just put a name on teamsheet to get those games up.

That is the number from the SFL bylaws.

Yep, AFL Tas allocate the players. I believe there are some that have been listed with clubs, but in their own eyes they are playing elsewhere!!!
Kingborough have done quite well on the list.

Informed comment. Cheers.
