Draft is the best option. Best way of finding a star. Hoping Bucks doesn't give homes to players like White Karnezis. Rather see a few years of us not challenging for the flag and building a new list and being a power again.
Is an option. I guess it depends on how Bucks views our chances in 2014 (top up now or go for the future).
His contract expires end 2014, so he may choose to load up now, unless he has been told his contract will be renewed.
Maybe a mixture of both is the best approach, some top up players & some youth via draft with our early pick.

I thought he got a 2 year extension on his contract. I think if the supporters can see he is rebuilding picks he will fine finishing in the lower part of the ladder but if we are recycling players and finishing mid way thats when Eddie will need to pull the pin. The other scenario is changeling for the flag in 14 which I personally believe isn't possible now.

Media speculation at the moment, nothing from the club, although I would not be surprised if they did in fact announce that over the summer.
I think Bucks will have a crack next year, so will try to address weaknesses during trade/F.A whilst keeping at least one early draft pick (assuming one of Shaw or Thomas may go & we finish up with two 1st round draft picks).

I'd like to see us trade into the draft instead of recycling players

Hawthorn have shown that you can achieve premiership success by mixing draft selections and developing these players with bringing in position specific "recycled" players which complement the group.

We were no different in 2010.

FA will see teams more readily able to turn things around quicker if the right person come onto the market.

I just look at the players we developed this year and the guys who missed large chunks. I think we are in a similar position to what Geelong were last year. They went out first round of finals but the amount of kids they brought in held them in good stead. They were 5 points off a GF appearance this year. If Chapman played, then they would probably be preparing for a GF right now.

The point about the 19 year old ruckman is fair and a huge concern. But he held up this year against quality players despite no pre-season and poor fitness.

We do need everything to go right. That means no injuries, peaking at the right time of the year and a good trade period.

No doubt we need to bring in a few guys. In 2009 it took Jolly and Ball to take us the next step. I don't think there is a Jolly and Ball available this year, but I don't think we have as many holes as people say.

I think swing Reid into defence and all of a sudden we have a premiership backline. Maxwell goes out and Toovey comes in as well. Then we have Marley and Heath Shaw as well. Seedsman is emerging.

Our midfield is still quality. Add a fully fit Dale Thomas and I think we have the missing link. If we somehow managed to score Adams then I think that will add to it. I'm one that rates Karnezis and think he could add something too and will be cheap.

Put Young into the midfield and we have the linebreaker and big left foot we need.

The forward line is my biggest concern, but Cloke is in the best 3 forwards in the comp, and Jaimie Elliott will just keep getting better. Get Fasolo back in there and have Daisy rotating up there and we have some danger again. Sidebottom can also add something up there.

If a guy like Paine emerges then we may find the missing link. We need Q Stick to find his confidence again.

There's a lot of 'ifs' and 'maybes' and 'we needs' in all that above. BUt winning a premiership takes everything falling into place.

We beat Geelong, Sydney, Richmond, Essendon and Carlton this year...and pushed Freo on their home deck.

Hawthorn seems unbeatable, but that said their key players are all over 30 (Mitchell, sewell, Guerra, Burgoyne, lake etc) so I don't know how much longer they can keep going. Buddy is off to GWS as well.

We have the list. Skill level is my biggest concern, but that said I think a lot of our problems is confidence.

If our game-plan was so bad, then I don't think we would've beat all the teams I listed above. Clearly we can beat anyone on the day. I'm looking forward to a really big pre-season. It is the first time in a long time we have gone out early and had a bit of extra time to prepare. I think our players will benefit from that.

I am an optimistic person I admit, but our list is still good.

I'm not blind. I see there a things that need changing. I just don't think the way to go about it is trading out half the list for draft picks. We just need to keep adding talent as our core is still in its peak age. All our good players have at least 3 years left except for Ball and Swan...but I think we can get another 2 out of them as well.

'A premiership backline with reid in defence'.

Summary of interview with his manager:

- Coming to Melbourne, highly unlikely to stay at GWS
- Heath Shaw deal not discussed yet
- 4 other clubs interested (Geelong, Carlton, Essendon and Richmond)
- Collingwood's contract offer and presentation has been impressive
- Will nominate a preferred club at end of this week
- Competitive kid who wants to develop, wants leadership and successful club as part of his decision

He is ours if we can come up with a trade IMO.

Richmond have nothing to trade, GWS want tall defenders and they are in short supply at Punt Rd and what's another pick worth to them?

Carlton, its Mick, he will offer them Hampson or some other dud and then complain they won't deal.

Essendon, cant see anyone wanting to go there when half the team might be ruled out.

Cats, no currency, that they will be prepared to part with.

Taylor Adams' manager has said that Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton, Essendon and Richmond have been the five clubs that are interested in Adams.

He has also said that it's highly unlikely that Adams will stay at GWS, however Collingwood put forth a very impressive presentation, and a call will be made by the end of the week.

Collingwood hold all the aces, with higher draft picks than the four other clubs, and the option of sending Heath Shaw to the Giants.

Sounds like we put the Best offer

I like the thought of bringing in Adams so swan can play forward. He has shown that he can turn games and kick goals as a small forward and to me it seems like the next evolution in his career. Not to mention it gives our forward line a new dimension. Don't know if swanny would be a fan though. He never looks too happy to be out of the mid field.

Good call if he wants to prolong his AFL career playing as a deep forward pocket.

I think he be similar to Leigh Matthews if he embraced the role. Plus I don't think there would be many defenders who look forward to marking swanny inside the 50.

Thanks for that contribution.

I believe Reid and Brown is already a premiership winning backline...so can't see why at their age they can't form the nucleas another premiership defence...especially with Keefe there as well...and guys like Marley and Toovey for support.

Feel free to provide your counter-opinion...or argue why Reid should stay forward...but at the moment you offer nothing other than wasting half my computer screen re-posting what I did.
