So I could kick it over my head.... the ball then bounces 150 metres to the other end of the oval. A mad foot race ensues with my team mate collecting the ball.... 30 seconds after it left my boot.

And that's effective?
If you could kick the ball 150m over your head that would be very effective and I dare say you would play AFL. To be effective you have to either retain position that happened in the case of Pendlebury to Adams, gain meters and force a stoppage or score. Ineffective is if you lose ground or lose possession

Haha is this still debated? Adams will probably be the next captain, he crossed over from GWS and probably brought his mates WHE and Treloar too. Once FA swings around we'll be in the box seat to nab one of their guns, perhaps Jeremy Cameron as a FA.

All that said, Adams is an infinitely better player than Heath Shaw this year and for the rest of their careers. Shaw has been disappointing this year and will decline from here.

It shouldn't be debated because we should have both

The reasons for Shaw being moved on neither you nor I can really make an informed judgement on as we weren't there at team meetings. The deal-breaker at the time for me was when Shaw slapped the ball out of some guys hands in the 2013 final causing a 50meter penalty, right then and there I wanted him gone. There have been some nervous moments and some yearning for Heath back, but since then we haven't been in contention, whilst Adams has grown to be the player he is right now. We all talk about moving on players due to not being in window. Surely then in hindsight moving on Shaw for Adams seems to be the right move moving forward, especially if Taylor plays in a flag.

Heath will always be a Premiership player and a Collingwood legend but enough was enough for me anyway.

An effective dislosal as defined by CD

Effective disposals are made up of effective long kicks, effective short kicks and effective handballs. An effective long kick is one that is 40 metres to a 50/50 or better for the team. An effective short kick is one that results in a teammate's possession who was the intended target of the kicker. A handball to a teammate that hits the intended target to the team's advantage is recorded as an effective handball.

Kicks and HB backwards if they are to a team mate are still 'effective'.

Those definitions havent changed since Ted Hopkins created them back in the mid 90s.

Ted has since left CD and has set up a new venture that is focussed on capturing predictive stats that are more interested in betting instead of the descriptive stats that is the domain of CD.

His foot skills under pressure are terrible and he will never be a good kick because his ball drop is too high, his decision making is terrible, he doesnt get tagged ever because the opposition know he will eventually give the ball back to them. Last week was the his best game of the year and he didnt make as many mistakes as usual but they will come back.
I would play him forward because he is a terrier and can keep the ball in AND his skills won't hurt us as much as further up the field. I know this is a minority opinion but he reminds me of Toby Greene, Greene was the same until GWS moved him forward, now he is AA.

You can kick a football OVER your head and gain 150m? God man, how big are your legs? How much do you squat? Sign him up Eddie!

He's had a shocking 3 games since he sledged Melbourne in the media. He needs to play within his limitations, his kicking isn't up to scratch. It's as much the coaches' fault as it is him, he just shouldn't be attempting pin point passes. He won't be dropped though, and nor should he be. As a leader, he needs to respond.

Taylor's mind is writing cheques his kicking can't cash....thinks he can pull of kicks but turns the ball over at will.

Had, is and will always be a butcher by foot. Blokes like him never change. That will always reduce him to a B grade player at best.
